CLASSIC HOT RODSTemporary lights were brought from the pitareas and four John Deere tractors lit up the fourcorners of the track from the infield. We even gotsome of the spectators in cars along the top to puttheir headlights on.With little vision from my commentary box, Itook to the gantry with the starter by way of aradio microphone.“Gentlemen, start your engines!”A couple of warm-up laps to get some warmthinto the tyres, reline of the grid and a great startfor 45 Craig Boyd who sHot up into the frontposition very quickly from the second row. Furtherback 198 Andy Steward was doing all he couldto prevent 17 Kenny Purdie from passing him,the two were in full battle, and the atmospherewas electric around the raceway. The closinglaps came, and Craig Boyd was still way out infront, emerging from turn four with little light anda struggling 169 Ben Hardy ahead; I closed myeyes, but Craig was through and gone. Victorylane came moments later.Craig Boyd has had one of his best seasons inClassic Hot Rods only missing out by not beingthere to compete in a few championships andobviously not accruing those points at stake.Craig’s main rival for most of 2019 555 GavinTaber took his second points title in the Englishseries.Whilst 116 Adrian Taber picked up NeilEdwin’s trophy for dedication throughout the year.We look forward to season 2020 with thepromise already of two new cars emerging andof course Classics will be on show at Motorsportwith Attitude at Peterborough Showground inFebruary. nSee our behind the scenes footage on Instagram: @retrofordmagazine 111
