Mustad is the world´s best selling fish
hook brand, with a leadership position
in more than 160 countries.
This catalogue is printed on Balance Silk 250/135 gr. This is a coated paper quality which
contains 60 % short-travelled, recirculated paper and 40% new pulp. The paper is very
white without the use of clorine bleach. The paper is certified in accordance with
ISO 14001, ISO 9001 and ISO 9706 (aging stability). In addition, the paper is ECF and
FSC certified. The production of 1 tonne of this quality entails an emission 165 kg CO 2 ,
compared to other types of coated qualities which give emissions of 400 kg per tonne.

Facing a new season, it is with excitement I follow the development of the changes
we started implementing at Mustad a couple of years ago, implementation of a
new logistics system and the modernising of our manufacturing processes, to
mention a few! Things take time, but with persistence results are starting to show!
During last season, I had the chance to fish some of the most attractive waters and
I am proud to say that I have put our products to the test.
In this catalogue you will find most hooks needed for any style of fishing. We take
pride in manufacturing high quality fish hooks that will withstand the challenge a
fish can represent. Our range is the widest offered by any hook manufacturer and
we are to be found all over the world! As you know, we are constantly making
improvements to our products, I am sure you will like our new packaging with
easy-to-see hooks and sizes, a demand we feel we have met with this new design.

ABout MustAd MUSTAD TIMELINE
“How a Norwegian invention came
to change the world”
one day in the late 19th century, a travelling
norwegian salesman, came wandering
through the Amazon rainforest in the
hills between Brazil and venezuela. it was
there that he met with the yanomami tribe
and introduced them to the products of his
suitcase: fish hooks. even to this day the
yanomami word for fishhook is simply “a
Mustad”.
it all started in 1832, when a steel mill was
built in gjövik, norway. in 1877, at a time
when each and every hook was handmade,
Mustad invented the world’s first fishhook
machine. fed with steel wire at one end,
out came hooks at the other end. it was
nothing less than a revolution, and it would
change the lives of fishermen everywhere.
An urban legend from these days tells of
the time when dr. livingstone lost his way
in the jungle. His luck changed, however,
when he met with a Mustad salesman who
showed him the way.
Mustad salesmen travelled all over the
world, and would be gone for months,
sometimes even years, at a time. from
the yanomami tribe in the Amazon to the
palawan in the philippines, everyone wanted
their special kind of hook. We made
tailor-made hooks to each and every fishing
need on the planet.
for the past 135 years we have made hook
perfection our mission. We have the world’s
largest hook manufacturing facility and we
are present in 160 countries, but all of our
hooks are still made from norwegian steel.
Just as the yanomami depended on us
to catch more fish a hundred years ago,
so does 6-time world champion and the
world’s number 1 ranked angler Kevin
vandam today. perhaps that’s why Mustad
hooks are the best selling hooks on the
planet.

1832
Established in Gjøvik by the
farmer Hans Skikkelstad, who
starts production of various
types of wire for fencing and
nails.
1843
His son in law, Ole Mustad,
takes over in 1843 under
the company name of
“O. Mustad”.
1860–70
Mustad enters into such
activities as foundry, sawmill,
lumber and trade.
New products are launched.
1874
Hans Mustad becomes
co-owner. The company is
named “O. Mustad & Son”.
1876
Nail production is transferred
from Gjøvik to Oslo.
1877
Production of fish hooks
is started in Gjøvik.
1881
Starts production of horse
shoe nails, which becomes
the most important product
for the coming 40–50 years.
1886
The first establishment
abroad: a nail factory in
Finland.
1889
Fly tying is started in Gjøvik.
The foundry activity is
transferred from Gjøvik to
Oslo, and wood burning
stoves and kitchen ranges
from Mustad are becoming
very popular.
1920
Mustad is now an
international company with
factories in several European
countries. Horse shoe nails
and fish hooks are sold
almost all over the world.
1930–40
Mustad owns 25 companies
in 13 countries in Europe.

1934
A large engine works is
taken over in Germany. Their
production of fish hooks
is closed down. Starts
to produce zippers in Gjøvik,
closed down in 1986.
1940
Mustad takes over a foundry
and mechanical work shop in
Gjøvik (establ. 1890).
1945–48
Due to nationalization
of subsidiaries in Poland,
Czechoslovakia, Romania and
Jugoslavia, Mustad loses loses a
major part of its business.
1952
Mustad takes takes over a fish
hook manufacturing company
in Auburn, USA. USA. Production
is closed down in in 1960. Sales
and packaging company company in
Auburn from 1968.
1968
The T Mustad Group
concentrates concentrates all all its activities
in the Oslo area, at Lilleaker
(administration and
production).
1971
Fish hook factory built
in Singapore. Expanded to
Malaysia in 1981.
1986
The production of nails
in Oslo is sold. The Mustad
Group reorganises into three
operating companies.
1988–91
New subsidiaries in the
Philippines (1988), Brazil
(1988) and Portugal
(1989/91).
1989
The hardware business
in Oslo is closed down.
The screw and self-service
activites are sold. Opening of
a shopping centre in Oslo.
1995
The Mustad Group sells
out all its interests in the
food production business.
Production of margarine is
phased out during 1996.
1996
Mustad takes over Partridge
of Redditch, an old wellestablished
fish hook
manufacturing company
in the UK, which will continue
to be marketed as a separate
brand.
1997
The Mustad Group is split
into three separate companies
with independent Mustad
family owners.
1999
Mustad opens an office in
Miami, Florida, in order to
better respond to the needs
of the Latin American market.
2001
Mustad opens a packing facility
in the Dominican Republic
to serve North American and
South American markets.
Ground-breaking ceremony
in China, initiating production
of fish hooks in Wuxi,
the Jiangsu Province.
2003
Mustad opens a new factory
in Wuxi, China. First building
stage completed.
2004
O. Mustad & Søn AS is
split into Mustad Longline,
manufacturing products and
equipment for mechanised
longlining, and a separate
real estate company, Mustad
Naeringspark, which manages
and develops Mustad’s large
properties in Gjøvik, Norway.
International fish hook
activities remain with
O. Mustad & Sön.
2007
Mustad 175 years.
2008–09
The last building stage of
the Wuxi fish hook plant in
China completed. It is now
the largest fish hook factory
in the world.
