3.4 Steel Tubes<br />

<strong>General</strong> <strong>Technical</strong> <strong>Specification</strong><br />

Steel tubes for use in light structural work and inserts shall be of light or medium class (as<br />

may be specified in drawings or the schedule of items) and of grade YST 25 conforming to<br />

IS : 1161 - 1979 "<strong>Specification</strong> for Steel Tubes for Structural Purposes".<br />

3.5 Foundation Bolts<br />

3.5.1 Bolts to be embedded in concrete shall, unless otherwise detailed in drawings, conform to<br />

IS : 5624-1970 "<strong>Specification</strong> for Foundation Bolts". Material for bolts, shall, be of steel<br />

conforming to IS : 2062-1992 or as per details provided in drawings based on <strong>Technical</strong><br />

requirement<br />

3.5.2 Nuts and locknuts shall conform to IS : 1363 (Part 1 to 3) -1992 "<strong>Specification</strong> for Black<br />

Hexagon Bolts, Nuts and Lock Nuts (Diameter 6-39 mm) and Black Hexagon Screws<br />

"<strong>Specification</strong> for Hexagon Bolts and Nuts (M-42 to M-150)".<br />

3.5.3 Plain washers shall conform to IS : 2016 -1967 "<strong>Specification</strong> for Plain Washers and spring<br />

washers shall conform to IS : 3063 -1972 "Spring Washers for Bolts, Nuts & Screws".<br />

3.6 Steel Tubes for Non-structural use<br />

3.6.1 Steel tubes for non-structural use shall conform to IS : 1239 (Part-I) -1990 "<strong>Specification</strong><br />

for Mild Steel Tubes, Tubular and Other Wrought Steel fittings, Part-I : Mild Steel Tubes".<br />

3.6.2 Fittings for steel tubes used for non-structural purposes shall conform to IS : 1239 (Part-II)<br />

-1992 "<strong>Specification</strong> for Mild Steel Tubular and Other Wrought Steel Pipe Fittings".<br />

3.9.1 Quality<br />

Bolts and nuts for fastening shall conform to IS:1367 (Part 1)-1980 "<strong>Technical</strong> Supply<br />

Conditions for Threaded Fasteners".<br />

Test certificates from manufacturer shall be submitted for each consignment. Any<br />

additional test which the Engineer may require shall be done according to IS : 1786-1985,<br />

1566-1982, 280-1978, 2062-1992, 1161-1979, 2614-1969, 3063-1972, 1239 (Part 1 and<br />

2)-1990 and 1992 and 1367-1980.<br />

Cast steel shall conform to IS : 1030-1989 "Carbon Steel Casting for <strong>General</strong> <strong>Engineering</strong><br />

Purpose". Unless otherwise specified, it shall conform to Grade2.<br />

3.10 Conduits<br />

3.10.1 Steel for electrical wiring<br />

Rigid steel conduits for electrical use shall conform to IS : 9537 (Part 2) - 1981 for rigid<br />

pipes and to IS : 3480-1966 for flexible conduits. Fittings for conduits shall conform to IS :<br />

2667-1988.<br />

All conduit pipes shall be finished with galvanised or stove-enamelled surface. All<br />

accessories shall be of threaded type and pipes shall be jointed by means of screwed<br />

couplers only. Bend in conduits shall be made to the dimension shown in drawing, but a<br />

minimum of 12 times the diameter. Where shown in drawing they shall be treated with<br />

anticorrosive preservative as specified.<br />
