Plain transparent glass for glazing and framing shall conform to IS: 2835-1987. It shall be<br />

free from flaws, specks, bubbles or distortions.<br />

12.0 PAINTS<br />

12.1 <strong>General</strong><br />

Glare reducing or heat absorbing glass shall be "Calorex" or approved equivalent and<br />

special care shall be taken to grind smooth and round off the edges before fixing.<br />

Glass shall have the following thickness, unless otherwise stated in the Schedule of<br />

Items or drawings<br />

Upto 60 cms x 60 cms ... 3 mm<br />

do- of larger size ... 4 mm and 4.8mm<br />

Sheet glass for doors ... 5.5 mm<br />

Rough cast wired ... 6.4 +/- 0.4 mm<br />

All glasses shall be subject to inspection on the site. Glass found to suffer from defects<br />

shall be rejected. Samples submitted for inspection shall be selected so as to be<br />

representative of the consignment.<br />

All paints, varnishes, distemper or other surface coating materials shall be of approved<br />

quality conforming to the appropriate <strong>India</strong>n Standard, wherever such standard is<br />

available, and be obtained from a manufacturer of repute. If there is more than one<br />

quality for one particular product, only first quality shall be used unless otherwise stated in<br />

the Schedule of Items.<br />

12.2 Sampling and Testing<br />

12.3 Storage<br />

The Engineer may, at his discretion, require samples of paint to be tested. In such cases<br />

testing will be according to IS : 101 (Part 1 to 8) -1964 to 1993.<br />

Paints, primers, distempers and varnishes shall be delivered in sealed containers. They<br />

shall be stored in cool dry condition to the satisfaction of the Engineer.<br />

12.4 Paints for Priming<br />

Ready mixed paints for priming coats of steel and iron work shall either comply with IS :<br />

2074-1992 "Ready Mixed Paint", "Red Oxide Zinc Chrome Priming" or Red Oxide metal<br />

primer as specified. For wood work it shall be pink/white wood primer as specified by the<br />

manufacturer of the synthetic enamel paints, conforming to IS : 3536-1966.<br />

12.5 Paints for finishing<br />

Ready mixed oil synthetic enamel paint of approved manufacturers like Berger, Jenson &<br />

Nicholson, Shalimar, I.C.I., Asian, Garware and Goodlass Nerolac paints only shall be<br />
