Black Creativity on
Campus
UCLA is home to some extraordinary Black Bruins that
utilize their creativity as an outlet for expressing
themselves. Through their art they highlight what it means
to be Black, African American, African, multi-racial, and all
else encompassed in the Afrikan diaspora.
I asked a group of UCLA
creatives what
inspires/motivates their
creativity and the different
answers highlights the love
and admiration they have for
our people. Their work is
amazing and it truly speaks for
itself.

My art is centered around
uplifting black voices in non
traditional spaces. Growing up I
never got the chance to see
people who looked like me
depicted in classic portraiture at
the national art galleries -which
is a shame. I think portraiture is
a powerful mechanism to ensure
that our voices are heard and
cannot be forgotten.
