COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS FROM ZENITEL MARINE

Zenitel Marine’s communications systems have been represented since 1984 by TTTBV in the Benelux.

Vingtor, Stentofon as well as Steenhans are worldwide famous brands throughout the maritime and offshore

industries. They focus on (fixed and mobile) communication on board of various ships.

Vingtor Stentofon

Zenitel Marine has been the market leader in internal maritime communication for ships and offshore

platforms for many decades. With the Vingtor-Stentofon brand, it offers a wide range of on-board

communication systems: telephone systems, intercom, Public Address, PA-GA, talk-back, battery-free and

wireless telephony, 2-way radio, infotainment and entertainment. Specialist systems are also available, such

as the Master Clock System, the Sound Reception System and paging.

The Vingtor-Stentofon systems have been supplied worldwide to ships and platforms since the 1940s. There

are now more than 30,000 ships sailing with a system supplied by Zenitel or one of the companies it has

taken over. TTTBV is therefore regularly asked for on-board service, the quick delivery of parts or products

or the upgrading of an existing communication system.



Phontec

The Phontech brand originated in 1987 in Norway, located in the same place as the Zenitel company that

was then still called Vingtor Marine. Phontech started from 1987 to focus on internal communication for on

board ships and offshore platforms. Especially in the offshore, the Phontech brand name developed rapidly.

In the North Sea, Phontech eventually became a leading player with specially developed PA systems and

intercom.

Phontech started as an independent company in 1987 and became part of the Jotron Group 10 years later.

At the end of 2018, Phontech was taken over by the Zenitel Group.

Phontech supplies a maritime telephone system based on 2-wire technology (2 address per device to be

connected), whereby integration with PA-GA is also possible. This basis can be particularly interesting when

an existing telephone system on board is due for replacement or expansion. It is not uncommon for the

existing system to be based on 2-wire technology, so that the existing cabling can be used unchanged.

SeaTelecom

For smaller vessels, TTTBV recommends the communication systems of SeaTelecom. SeaTelecom is

developed by TTTBV and is very competitively priced. The systems meet all basic conditions for internal

communication on board ships.

VINGTOR-STENTOFON

The Vingtor-Stentofon ACM system unites and enhances a vessel’s safety systems by providing

outstanding on-board communication. The ACM solutions have three main system variants.

These are:

The ACM systems provide reliable, robust and proven communication solutions. The systems have been

continuously developed and enhanced to take advantage of new technologies such as IP Networking.

The different ACM systems are built around the AlphaCom XE intercom server/exchange. The AlphaCom

server/exchange is an advanced communication switch designed to meet the growing needs of internal and

external communication onboard marine vessels. The server/exchange features advanced functions such as

1-bit audio technology (20 kHz audio), IP switching, Web services, and a wide range of integration options.

AlphaCom XE is a modular platform, supporting IP as well as analog telephones and networking. This

modularity and flexibility is reflected in our product portfolio comprising various system packages. These

system packages fulfill the requirements of all vessels types, from small conventional vessels to large

advanced ships. (See table on page 5 for a list of capabilities for the different ACM systems.)

ANALOG TELEPHONE SYSTEM

The ACM-M-A-V2 is a PBX made for the marine

environment. The exchange is based on the well

proven ACM solution. The system features the

latest technologies such as high capacity line cards,

remote management and maintenance using IP,

and Web technologies as well as VoIP gateways.

An optional gateway provides a flexible interface to

analog and digital telephone trunks with 2, 4, and

8 channels.

The exchange is available in variants with capacity

ranging from 24 to 60 subscribers. It is housed in

a wall-mounted cabinet which is optimized for easy

installation and maintenance. All connections are

easily accessible from the front. The exchange is

powered from an AC and/or DC power supply and

features automatic switchover.

The PBX has an interface for connection to a Public

Address system. Access to the Public Address

interface is programmable.

The ACM Integrated Communication System is

specially designed for use onboard marine vessels.

The system is based on the AlphaCom XE platform

featuring the latest digital technologies such as IP

telephony, Web management and IP switching.

The system supports the integrated SPA PA&GA

solution. Together with the SPA, the system is

extremely cost efficient where SPA loudspeaker loops

are used together with the ACM intercom stations.

The ACM intercom stations are type approved as

integrated PA, GA, telephone, and talk-back units.

The ACM solution supports a wide range of analog, IP

and wireless communication terminals made for the

marine environment. IP DECT base stations connect

directly to the exchange over IP, providing a very cost

efficient solution for deploying a wireless network

onboard.

The DECT telephones, IP telephones, and intercom

stations have all access to the same set of ACM

features. Users will be able to benefit from full

accessibility as well as seamless mobility as they can

always be contacted regardless of their location on

the vessel.

The ACM Advanced Communication System offers

a complete system for Communication, Data,

Safety, and Entertainment. The system comes with

benefits such as reduced costs in infrastructure,

more efficient operation, improved user experience

and the security of type approved and certified

systems.

The function modules are integrated and assembled

into 19” racks specially made for the marine

environment. With the modular building platform,

the system can be expanded to provide audio and

data communication for 30 to over 1000 users.

The ACM Advanced Communication System

provides a type approved structured cabling system

(CAT-6A) as the backbone. With its advanced wiring

and patch solution, the system supports all-inone

cabling. This solution results in a significant

reduction in cabling infrastructure where a single

(CAT-6A) cable can provide telephony (analog or IP),

General Alarm, Public Address, internet access,

MANAGEMENT ALPHAPRO

AlphaPro is the tool for configuring the Vingtor-Stentofon ACM system. It is

self contained, simple to install and easy to use. When a new server is to be

configured, the server is given a working default factory setting.

The operator can then modify the settings such as:

• Directory (type of station, line interface, display name and more)

• Define groups (cell groups, guard groups)

• Interface to CCTV, PA, paging, DECT

• AlphaNet

• And other custom behavior

There are currently over 100 defined features which can be programmed with

AlphaPro.AlphaPro is an off-line tool. This means that it is possible to enter

all parameters without the necessity of being connected to the server. Once

all parameters are entered, AlphaPro can be connected to the server and the

parameters can be sent. AlphaPro can also upload configuration information

from a server.

• AlphaPro connects to a server via the IP network or a local RS232 interface

• AlphaPro E7 runs without a hardware key. It gives access to all features

except AlphaNet, but only for 36 subscribers

AlphaPro Professional uses the Professional hardware key. It gives access

to all features for all stations. This version must be used when extensive

changes to the autoload are required.

BILLING APPLICATION

The Billing application makes it possible to control the communication fees

and expenses in a ACM system. The application is a full billing system which

can generate revenues from the ACM system. It is possible to handle a set of

IP STATION & SIP STATION LICENSE

IP stations require a license. They do not require additional hardware such as an

ASLT card. The maximum number of stations which is supported by an exchange

is 552. These can all be IP stations if the network to which they are configured

supports multicast. If this is not the case, the maximum number of supported IP

stations in an exchange is 50.

Each telephone requires a SIP station license. SIP telephones can be physical units

but also SIP softphone clients on a PC or PDA.

NETWORKING

AlphaNet and multi-module linking for the ACM exchanges can be via data

networks. This does not require additional hardware inside the exchange, but

opening up the capability requires the correct licence. Licenses are required in

all connected modules and nodes. There is no difference whether a license is

used for an AlphaNet or a multi-module connection. A static license means

that the destination of an audio link needs to be defined at commissioning,

a dynamic link is a common resource, and can be used for any audio link that

requires connection. The data links between modules and nodes are not licensed.

The multi-module license gives the possibility of expanding the size of an

exchange. It is possible to add up to 4 modules in a multi-module exchange.

The modules will be linked together over a local area IP network (LAN).

30 VoIP channels are available in each exchange module. Note that the

license is only required in the master module in the multimodule exchange.

The ACM – Cisco Call Manager Integration expands the vessel's internal communication system to be an integrated

communication system for your complete fleet and onshore offices.

The solution uses the ACM system to provide a type approved solution for the vessel and at the same time connects to a

Cisco Call Manager Express server onboard the vessel. This allows you to use both Cisco telephones and type approved

terminals. The ACM system is part of the private number plan used by the Cisco Call Manager system and connects to the

2-wire cables. A Zenitel proprietary protocol, The Flowire in this

case , is used to extend the Ethernet connection and support power

equipped with a Flowire Converter (FCDC2).

The Exigo system is designed to meet the requirements of Public Address & General Alarm

systems for offshore installations, ships and other demanding areas. The system is scalable and

offers a set of standard and optional features making it ideal for all kinds of installations.

The Exigo system is a native IP system designed to use any type of network equipment and each

device is self-monitoring. The devices themselves will report any faults to the system controller

allowing for a centralized monitoring of all connected devices. The system controller is also the

integration point for the system and enables a wide variety of integrations spanning from analog

integration, digitial IP-IP audio integration using SIP to remote monitoring using a SDK/API or SNMP.

The system can also utilize innovative addressable IP loudspeakers. The IP loudspeakers are

individually addressable, configurable and monitored. Each IP loudspeaker features a maximum

10-watt audio effect and is powered over the Ethernet connection.

The Exigo Access Panels can use the 2-wire Flowire system for connection.

Flowire is used to extend the Ethernet connection and support power distribution

on the 2-wire cabling infrastructure. To support the Flowire interface, the central

equipment rack must be equipped with an FCDC2 Flowire Converter. Each

outdoor access panel will require its own FCDC1 Flowire Converter.

The Ex access panel located in the hazardous zone is connected to the central

equipment rack located in the safe zone using an Ex certified 2-wire cable.

The VINGTOR-STENTOFON Infotainment & IPTV system with its comprehensive functionality in

a highly HW-efficient setup is ideal for marine vessels. Based on forefront technology the IPTV

system is easy to set up and configure and provides customized interactive solutions in addition to

traditional TV channels. The IPTV technology enables broadcasts television via IP networks with HD

video and multi-channel audio. The IP protocol enables two-way connections between head-end

and set-top boxes. Due to the features mentioned, users can enjoy interactive TV and other media

features not available to conventional television subscribers.

IPTV BENEFITS:

• Space efficient. Provides a wide range of functions with few components.

• Access to all digital TV signals. Digital terrestrial and satellite signals can all be combined in the same IPTV

server without the need for additional HW or licenses.

• Versatile. The Set-top boxes run on an Android platform, enabling access to applications such as web browsing,

e-mail, Skype, social media apps. etc. from any TV.

• Video on Demand (VoD). This is the individual delivery of video content to a subscriber. This service allows its

users to watch any movie from the VoD server's media library. The subscriber can use the pause and rewind

features.

• Time Shifted TV adds interactive features to TV channel viewing. The subscriber can pause the playback at any

time and resume it later. There is also a rewind option for TV programs.

• TV on Demand (TVoD). The selected TV channels are recorded and stored for a predefined period and is

available for viewing individually on each TV.

• 3D Support. Users can watch live 3D TV channels as well as 3D movies from VoD server`s media library.

• 4K UHD Support. Users can watch live 4K UHD TV channels as well as 4K UHD movies from VoD server`s media

MASTER CLOCK SYSTEMS

Marine Master Clock is the ideal solution for

distribution of both Local and UTC time on

board ships.

The Master Clock is equipped with several

outputs and inputs for control of Slave Clocks

as well as distribution of time to computers and

other equipment needing the correct time. The

four Slave Clock outputs can be individually

programmed for different types of clocks.

External radio receivers / time synchronisation

sources can be connected when higher

accuracy is needed.

For control and regulation of various energy

consumers such as electrical striking plates,

buzzers for pause signalling etc., the master

Clock has a built-in yearly programmer with two

relay outputs. The Master Clock is equipped with

10 buttons and a 2 x 16 character LCD. To facilitate

the change of time zones, two of the buttons are

dedicated to this purpose. A light dimmer makes

it possible to adjust the background-illumination

to the ambient light level.

SOUND RECEPTION SYSTEM

The Sound Reception (VSS) system is a

navigation aid system required on ships with

enclosed bridges. The system enables the officer

in charge of the navigational watch to hear

sound signals and determine their direction.

The system Comply with following Regulations

/ Standards: Annex A.1, item No.A.1/4.58

and Annex B, Module B in the directive.

SOLAS 74 as amended, Regulation V/18, V19

& X/3, IMO Res.A.694(17), 2000 HSC Code,

To improve operation and detection of sound

signals, the VSS system utilizes DSP technology.

The DSP (digital signal processor) provides

active noise cancellation to remove background

noises in order to hear external noise signals

better and to remove unwanted noise from the

bridge.

The VSS system is easy to install. The system

consists of one microphone unit with four

integrated directional microphones for

mounting on top of the wheelhouse. The VSS

main panel is installed on the bridge. The bridge

main panel interfaces with up to four slave

panels, the Voyage Data Recorder (VDR) and a

relay output for muting the typhoon/foghorn.

VINGTOR-STENTOFON

PUBLIC ADDRESS SYSTEM

The SPA-V2 system is specially designed to meet the demands for a cost-effective Public Address

system for use on board ships.

The system is available in various versions and offers a set of standard and optional features which

covers the requirements for a marine Public Address and General Alarm system for all types of

vessels.

Each SPA rack supports power output from 120W to 2800W. A system can consist of multiple racks

to provide for the requisite capacity. The racks can be provided in the following sizes: 12 HU, 16 HU,

20 HU, and 24 HU.

The SPA system is an integrated type approved PA and GA solution. SPA is extremely cost effective

where SPA loudspeaker loops are used together with the integrated ACM units to cover areas

where PA and GA are required onboard the ship.

TALK-BACK SYSTEMS

The ETB-5 & ETB-10/ETB-10A is a Command

Talk-Back system with 5 or 10 lines while the

ETB-100/ETB-100A is a Command Talk-Back

& Public Address system with 10 lines. The

ETB-100A can also be used as an emergency

Public Address system.

The system comprises a central unit and

a comprehensive range of substations

and other field equipment for use indoors,

outdoors, and in noisy areas on marine

vessels. Physical dimensions of the units

are based on the Euro DIN standard and are

integrated seamlessly into bridge solutions.

CTB & CTB-100

TALK-BACK SYSTEMS

The CTB & CTB-100 Talk-Back system is a command

communication system based on one

operator unit/panel and a wide range of substations

for marine environments. The CTB-

100 system supports public address using

power amplifiers and 100V loudspeakers. The

systems is typically used to coordinate activities

in a work group – the main stations can

hear all conversations.

The CTB & CTB-100 systems are based on

one central unit, up to 4 main operator panels

(the CTB-100 Talk-Back system includes

loud-hailing and 100 V power amplifier in

addition) and a wide range of substations

made for marine environments. Operator

panels are nominated as master or submaster

by settings in the CU central unit.

The CU central unit contains all electronic

parts including the optional

output amplifier, as well as terminals

for termination of all field equipment.

The CTB operator panels have foil protected

push buttons. The physical dimensions are

based on the Euro DIN standard and are integrated

seamlessly into bridge solutions. Both

handheld and gooseneck microphones can

be used via settings in the CU central unit.

The VSP system is independent of the vessel's power supply and fulfils the demands for emergency

communication between vital positions on board. The system has a versatile range of light but

robust and corrosion-resistant stations for all on-board environments. The various VSP stations can

be delivered for panel, desktop or bulkhead mounting.

An Intrinsically Safe VSP Set consists of a Buffer

unit mounted in a safe area and a Main station,

with optional headset and call signal, mounted

in the hazardous area. The Buffer unit can be

delivered in different versions, depending on

how many main stations should be called. The

buffer unit must be powered by 24V DC.

Making a call from a Main station in the hazardous

area to VSP stations in the safe area is

simple: Turn the selector switch to the desired

extension number and press the call button.

Lift the handset and keep the handset button

pressed during the conversation.

The The VINGTOR Analogue Desktop Telephone is made for the VINGTOR ASA and Acm system. The

telephone is well suited for use onboard ships and has a solid construction for marine environment

including strong magnet holder of handset.

The telephone is easy to use with a full keyboard (including R/flash key) with large buttons. In addition the

telephone has a lED for indicating if handset is on/off and a set of special function keys for:

The 152m long new megacutter Helios can operate up to a depth of 35 meters, at a minimum

dredging depth of 6 meters. This makes the ship suitable for making landings of pipelines. Two

cutters with different heights can be used, which are able to cut extremely hard soil. The cutter

capacity lies between 4,200 and 7,000 kW, the pump capacity is 3 x 5200 kW.

For the Helios, TTT delivered an integrated communication system comprising an ACM phone

system wich was linked to an SPA PA / GA public address / general system. In addition to

the telephone and intercom / talkback functionality, the ACM system is also used for PA /

GA distribution over the speakers and telephone stations. By integrating the ACM and SPA

systems, savings can be made on the number of speakers and amplifier power. Furthermore, the

integration of both systems also has functional advantages, such as giving PA messages from

authorized devices.

The Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger (TSHD) Vox Maxima, with a hopper capacity of 31,200 m3,

has been named Ship of the Year in 2010. The jury awarded the prize because this ship, the largest

dredging vessel ever built in the Netherlands, was thoroughly engineered and has an excellent

transport efficiency. IHC Dredgers has managed to realize a high-speed ship with a large hopper

capacity in a full ship-shape.

For the Vox Maxima, TTT delivered an integrated communication system, consisting of an ACM

telephgone system which is linked to an SPA public address / general alarm system. Additionally

TTT also delivered a Vingtor Marine TETRA wireless communication system. This system is

integrated in the ACM system and is able to make use of many specific properties of the ACM

system.

After a nine months renovation at Damen Shiprepair Flushing, the sterntrawler SCH-72 Frank

Bonefaas van Cornelis Vrolijk’s Visserij Maatschappij returned to its home port. During the

renovation, the nearly 120-meter sterntrawler from 1993 was completely decomposed and rebuilt.

For the Frank Bonefaas SCH72, TTT delivered a Vingtor Marine integrated communication system

ACM E7. This system replaces the previous installed Vingtor Marine VMP system. Replacement

and commissioning were carried out by TTT, while the original phone handsets remained in use.

Besides the ACM system, TTT also delivered an ASCOM paging system for personal security.

When the person carrying a pager falls or activates the handset manually, certain devices will send

out sound spoken instructions to predestined speakers or stations so that help can be activated

immediately.

The 121m long Cutter Suction Dredger, the ‘Leonardo da Vinci’, built for Jan de Nul, has been

dredging for years for the construction of the Utah Point Port in Port Hedland Harbour, Western

Australia.

For the Leonardo da Vinci, TTT replaced the existing communication system with a Vingtor Marine

ACM system. Besides the ACM system, TTT also provided an extended DECT system, integrated

into the ACM system. After installation by the crew of the ship, TTT commissioned the complete

system following the carefully built up construction plan.

The Neptune is a self-elevating platform of 60 by 38m, which is mainly used for the construction

of offshore wind farms. With a 2,750 tonne pre-load for each leg and a 26 m crane of 600 tons, it

belongs to the larger DP2 installation vessels of GeoSea.

TTT delivered an integrated Vingtor Marine ACM and SPA system for the Neptune. These systems

combined provide the internal communication and distribution of public address and general

alarm. The Neptune’s crew set high standards for the integrated communication and are therefore

well aware of the many possibilities that this system offers. Based on specific and additional needs

of the crew, a number of upgrades have been executed by TTT’s engineers to upgrade the system.

The 90m long special service workboat vessel, the Stemat Spirit of Stemat Marine Services, has

high accuracy due to its high-tech Dynamic Positioning System. Because of the ship’s low draft, it

can reach far up the beach, at which they can perform onshore cabling. The Stemat Spirit makes

use of a so called Hi-plow technique through which a cable can be buried deeper, for the safe

laying of the cable.

The Stemat Spirit was used in several wind farms in the United Kingdom. An example of this was

the Walney Wind Farm, consisting of two parts, Walney 1 + 2. The Stemat Spirit has provided both

parts with cables.

TTT supplied an integrated Vingtor Marine ACM and SPA system for the Stemat Spirit. These

systems combined provide internal communication and distribution of public address and general

alarm. TTT engineers have been on board several times to adapt the configuration of the system

to the specific requirements for the job to which the ship shortly thereafter would start.
