Delray Beach Open by Vitacost.com Delray Beach Open By Vitacost.com Is A Hit!!! 68 | april 2020 | www.AtlanticAveMagazine.com By Melissa Perlman, BlueIvy Communications photos by Fritz Moore, Avos Studios LLC and Andrew Patron More than 60,000 locals and visitors streamed through the gates at The Delray Beach Open by VITACOST.com which delivered ten days of electric tennis and so much more at the downtown tennis center last month.
The eagerly awaited annual event did not disappoint - the world’s only combined ATP Champions Tour Legends event and ATP 250 Tour event added a new twist in 2020 – the firstever women’s match in tournament history starring Delray Beach local and teen sensation Coco Gauff. The hometown girl stole everyone’s hearts Valentine’s Day weekend amongst matches featuring Hall of Famers and fan-favorites such as James Blake, Tommy Haas, David Ferrer and other legends. President’s Day Monday saw the show get down to serious business as the game’s current ATP Tour stars took the court. The green flag might as well have been red, white, and blue as the main event was dominated by the home team with young American Reilly Opelka edging Yoshito Nishioka (JPN), using a record 99th ace at championship point to seal the singles title, while the Bryan Brothers closed their Delray Beach chapter winning their 6th title at “The Beach” in their swan song appearance. There was something for all to enjoy at the event - like chilling onsite at the Raeburn Winery & Champagne Lounge, the Shipyard Beer Garden and partaking in Sipsmith Gin’s DBO Smash – the Official (adult) Beverage of the tournament. Foodies found their favorites at That’s Amore Brick Oven Pizza, Guaca Go, and tried Bit-O-Gelato’s unique flavors including Nuts 4 Coco and Thai-breaker Tea. While many tourney attendees went “gaga” for The Volley Girls and Company, others who favored less hustle n’ bustle headed to a VIP Lounge & Game Room with Clive Daniel and Boynton Billiards overlooking the tournament grounds from the second floor of the clubhouse. In addition to the on-and-off court action, there were several not-to-be missed events, including the return of Game Set Pour, the ultimate pairing event highlighting the best local eats and a mouthwatering menu of beer and wine. And, there were also one-of-a-kind dining/networking events in the Hospitality Pavilion, like the exclusive Box Holders Party, the Chamber Bash, and Lilly Pulitzer’s Ladies Luncheon to hob nob with the players.
