Gimme the cheese,
please! There’s
almost nothing
better than a
fantastic sandwich,
unless it’s a fantastic
sandwich that is dishing
out ooey, gooey and melty cheese.
April is National Grilled Cheese Sandwich
Month and is a great time to either fall in love with cheese again or
fire up your already deep love affair. Instead of trying to find a restaurant
that’s open and can fill your fix, take inspiration from a local
menu and make your best grilled cheese in your own kitchen. If you’re
looking for a one-and-done location, look no further than Beer Trade
Co. Try and recreate their fancy BBQ & Bacon grilled cheese, which
is made with applewood smoked bacon, caramelized onions, cheddar
cheese and barbecue sauce on Italian bread, or the vegetarian Caprese,
with fresh mozzarella and heirloom tomatoes topped with fresh
basil and a homemade balsamic reduction Italian bread. You can go
grilled cheese rogue and try to make their Big Kahuna, with grilled
pineapple, roasted ham, pepper jack cheese and sweet red pepper relish
on Texas toast, or the Cuban, with slow roasted pork, fresh sliced
ham, Swiss cheese, pickles and mustard on Italian bread. While those
might be a great few options with which to start, it’s also fun to get
creative with whatever you have in your fridge! No tomatoes? Sub in
roasted red peppers. Don’t have pepper jack cheese? Cheddar or Swiss
or brie might work! The good news is that you can recreate until your
stomach’s content. Bon appetit!
Whether you’re young or old or somewhere in between, there
are many reasons to love Spring. Starting the day with a sunrise
service with your family members is always special, an
egg hunt makes the most out of your hide and seek skills, and a Sunday
brunch or dinner hits all the delicious food notes. Since we’re still
dealing with the effects of the Coronavirus and our previously planned
activities are canceled, we’ll just have to recreate the holiday weekend
as best we can! Start with watching the sunrise service with your mom
and family (always a great way to start the day for me) and a glass
of champagne (second best way to start the day!) in your backyard.
Bonus points if you can find a service on YouTube to listen to. Then,
sneak about hiding the eggs for any kiddos in the family. They’ll get a
kick out of spending the first part of the day searching for their goodies,
and then the next bit enjoying their find. When you’re ready, put
on the apron and join together to make brunch or prepare for dinner!
Regardless if you’re a ham, hot cross buns and deviled eggs type of
family, or you make your own menu based on family favorites, the best
part about it is spending time together creating a meal that you’ll also
enjoy together. The holiday weekends are best spent with those who
mean the most to you, and even amidst all the uncertainty and social
distancing as of late, every minute is best celebrated with love.
