INDUSTRIAL TOURISM - TOURISME INDUSTRIEL
Industrial tourism is understood to be the cultural tourism segment that, through its heritage or historical aspect (visiting old factories, mines and other facilities that are no longer working but have high tourism-cultural value), or living industry (visiting active companies), show us what the Basque Country is all about, its history and economic activity, recalling certain professions, helping us understand its urban development and interpret its landscape.

BASQUE RAILWAY MUSEUM /
MUSÉE BASQUE DU CHEMIN DE FER
he Basque Railway
T Museum boasts one of
the best train collections
in Europe featuring all
types of vehicles: steam,
diesel and electric
locomotives; diesel trains
and different types of
wagons.
What’s more, the museum
displays one of the most
complete machine-tool
collections in the Basque
Country, in the former
Urola Railway mechanical
workshop.
This facility has been
kept just as it was when
it opened in 1925, with
an old electric motor that
runs its 16 machines
via a complex system of
pulleys, belts and busbars.
The amazing facilities
in the former electrical
transformer station, with
its original rectification
equipment, using mercury
steam, demonstrate the
most modern technology
last century.
On the first floor of
the central building in
Azpeitia’s former station,
there is an exceptional
exhibition of uniforms
worn on the railways from
the late 19th century
right up to the dawn of
the AVE. On the second
floor, you’ll find one of the
best collections of railway
clocks in the world that
make you feel like a true
time-traveller.
The Basque Railway
Museum takes you
back in time, riding
hundred-year-old trains
pulled by veteran steam
locomotives. The train
takes you on a 10 km
return trip to the former
station at Lasao.
