Bible Study:
The definition of altar in Hebrew is mizbeach orחבּזמ the PLACE of slaughter or sacrifice.
It’s a place where something dies in order that spiritual life can occur. Often times we think
sacrifice is giving up something in our Western way of thought but it really means doing
something to get closer to God. There were three types of altars in the Bible, the stone altar
the brazen altar and the golden altar of incense. Each altar , each sacrifice is a
progressive
step closer to the will of God for your life. These Old Testament altars represent a sacrifice
today that every Christian must make to get closer to God. However, at every altar there was
satanic battle to stop the will of God from being accomplished. How far have you gone in
your sacrifice ? How far will you go to get closer to God? To make a sacrifice is to reap a
spiritual reward!
The Stone Altar:
This is altar is a place of personal conflict and decision. Often times this conflict or decision
is about some truth of God’s character or nature. In other words, your plan dies that God’s
will may be accomplished. No iron tools were permitted to be used in constructing this altar
or it would be polluted. This meant that His truth could not be altered to fit the will of man.
In most instances the Altar was named in remembrance of the decision or conflict.

The Golden Altar of Incense:
This is the altar that was closest to the Holy of
Holies in the temple. It represent prayers
and praise going up to God on continual basis.
Prayer is the key to entering into God’s presence.
No blood could be offered on this altar just
incense.
This is the altar that is most misunderstood and
where the greatest battle takes place. Even Jesus
our Lord and savior had to battle at these three
altars. The Garden of Gethsemane at the rock of
agony, his place of prayer in the garden, and the
cross. Each time he was victorious despite the
struggle. Each sacrifice resulted in a great reward.
Will you lay your life at the altar to receive a
greater reward?

The Brazen Altar:
This altar was the place of animal sacrifice
at the Temple on Jerusalem. Anyone
could make a sacrifice at the stone altar.
However, only priests could sacrifice at
the brazen altar. This is also the only place
at the temple where the priests and the
people met. You enter your priesthood or
ministry when you die to your flesh
because you cannot effectively serve God
in your flesh.
