Best Summer Skin Care Routine
by: Michelle Tesado
Sure, summer is the season to kick back,
relax, and just enjoy being outside and
not freezing, but it's not time to slack on
your skincare routine. UVA/UVB rays are harmful
all year long, but are especially damaging during
the summer month when our exposure levels are
higher thanks to spending free days at the beach or
in the park.
That's why it's important to focus on sun and heat
protection, in addition to maintaining your regular
skincare routine. It can be tough to know where
to start when switching over your products for
a new season, so we turned to a handful of top
dermatologists to find out their tips for keeping skin
healthy during the summer.
• Exfoliate for clearer, smoother skin
What it does: Exfoliation removes dead,
dulling skin debris to prevent congestion and
improve hydration from toners and moisturizers.
When: Perform in the mornings prior to toner,
moisturizer, SPF and make-up application. Tip:
Make-up will last longer on an exfoliated skin!
Don’t forget: After you exfoliate, follow with
a hydrating body cream to seal in moisture,
and always shield freshly exfoliated skin with
an SPF (as recommended by the FDA).
Recommended: Daily Microfoliant®, Body
Hydrating Cream.
• Keep skin hydrated
How: Up your regimen’s level of hydration with
intensive masques, perfect for use one to two
times a week. Boosters are a great fit, working
best when layered underneath a moisturizer.
Toners are a refreshing moisturizer prep,
working to even out skin porosity. Tip: Refresh
with a revitalizing toner spritz at your desk, in
the car, at the gym, on the plane!
Recommended: Antioxidant HydraMist, Skin
Hydrating Booster, Skin Hydrating Masque.
• Make friends with H20
Why: Higher temperatures and more time
outdoors leads to internal dehydration, which
can result in headaches and dizzy spells!
What you can do: Eight 8-ounce glasses of
plain, filtered water every day help maintain
critical moisture balance of the body and skin,
and assist in detoxification. Tip: If you drink
caffeinated beverages, you must triple the
amount of water you drink!
Recommended: Plain and pure water!
• Repair and treat sun damage
What causes skin damage: UV light causes
photoaging in the form of brown spots, coarse
skin and wrinkles, whether you have burned
your skin or not. When sunlight comes in
contact with skin a cascade of damage results
(including the stripping of barrier lipids) causing
inflammation, production of reactive oxygen
molecules that affect healthy cell growth, and
stimulation of collagen destructing enzymes.
What to do: A tan may be a popular summer
look, but it indicates damage. Bombard your
skin with age-fighting ingredients to help undo
any damage that may occur, and to further
protect it from the aging effects of UV.
Recommendation: Power Rich, MultiVitamin
Power Recovery® Masque, MAP-15
Regenerator.

Best Places to Visit in the Philippines
by: Rizel C. Durango
• Palawan
If you have the unfortunate dilemma of
choosing only one place to visit in the Philippines,
Palawan should be at the top of your list. You
cameto the country to see spectacular beaches
and islands. You are going to experience the best
inPalawan! Most travelers arrive in Palawan by
way of Puerto Princesa. Known as the “City in a
Forest,” Puerto Princesa is not only the island’s
busiest gateway, it’s home to many remarkable
attractions. Don’t miss the Puerto Princesa
Underground River (a UNESCO World Heritage
Site and the longest navigable underground river
in the World), island hopping trips to Honda Bay,
• Boracay
There is a reason that Boracay Island is
considered the beach capital of the Philippines
because there are more than 12 beaches. This tiny
island in the west Visayas region is ideal for
beach-goers who are after simple relaxation in
the sun or water activities. White Beach, on the
west side of the island, is one of the best beaches
in the Philippines.
4
• Siargao
Travelers that enjoy making an itinerary up
as they go should put Siargao Island on the
agenda. The small island is big with experiences,
from sought-after surfing waves to unusual
rock formations and stunning waterfalls.
Surfing is what Siargao is most known for. The
famous Cloud 9 break is here, but there are
many coastline spots that bring in large waves.
So, even if you do not surf, watching some of
the championship surfers that come to the
island is a fun activity.
• Cebu
Cebu is the hub around which the Visayas
revolve. It is the most densely populated island in
the Philippines and is second only to Luzon in its
strategic and economic importance to the country.
This is one of the most prosperous regions in the
country – the 2016 growth rate was 8.8%,
considerably higher than the national average.
Tourism numbers are
booming, Cebu draws almost two million foreign
travellers a year. The island's prime attractions are
its white-sand beaches and spectacular diving,
chiefly off the northern tip of Cebu at Malapascua
and down on the southwest coast at Moalboal. And
don't ignore much-maligned Cebu City, which has
lively bars, emerging eateries and burgeoning retail
appeal.

Tips on how to Plan Your Vacation
by: Mylene Cipriano
Step 5: Start Saving
Money
Step 3: Will you
Travel Solo or Go With
Someone?
Traveling solo will give you the
freedom to go anywhere you
want. However, it means you have
to do all the planning yourself —
which can seem daunting if you’re
new to trip planning. Traveling
with someone means you have
someone to help plan the trip
with you. It will make researching
your itinerary faster and you’ll
have someone to spend time with
on the road. It will just depend
on you and the person you travel
with.
Step 4: Research Your
Costs
Knowing will allow you to estimate
how much money you’ll need for
your trip. Here is how to research
costs:
1. Buy a guidebook.
2. You can begin with my travel
guide section.
3. Ask on community websites like
our forum and Facebook group
or Lonely Planet.
4. Google prices for specific
things you want to do.
Before you can start saving
money, you need to know h
ow much you have and how
much you’re spending. Start
to write down all your current
expenses so you can determine
where you are spending money
— and how you can cut back.
Step 2: Decide the
Length of Your Trip
In order to figure out how much
you need to save you’ll need to
know how long your trip will be.
Are you going away for a week? A
month? A year?
The length of your trip is a huge
factor in determining how much
money you need. Spend some
time mulling that over until you
6
have your answer.
Step 1: Decide Where You
Want To Go
Defining where you want to go sets a
goal to work toward. A lot of people talk
vaguely about travel. They never say
where they are going, just that they are
going. Picking a destination is immensely
important, as it gives you a definite goal.
Step 8: Stay
Focused and
Inspired
While you get closer to your
goal, make sure that you
keep feeding your desire
to travel. Travel planning
can be exhausting and
overwhelming — especially
if you don’t have support
from your friends and
family. It can often get
discouraging and feel out of
reach at times.
Step 9: Check for
Last-Minute
Deals
Okay, you’re inspired,
prepared, and on your way
to saving money for your
trip. But before you go buy
that flight or book that
hotel, check for deals you
might have missed. These
days, there is always a deal
to be found — especially
if you’re flexible with your
dates and/or destinations.
Step 10: Book Your
Flight
After you’ve used your travel
credit card and received your
sign-up bonus, use your miles
to book your flight. It is harder
to use miles these days due to
less availability, so make sure
to book early to ensure you get
your desired flight.
Step 11: Book Your
Accommodation
Here are my go-to sites when it
comes to finding the best deals on
accommodation:
Step 12: Plan Your
Activities
To make sure you have budgeted
properly, outline the major activities
you want to enjoy during your trip and
how much they cost. Make any lastminute
adjustments to your savings
so you can ensure you have enough
money. This will also help you figure
out if you need any reservations for
your chosen tours or activities.
• Hostelworld – Hostelworld has the
largest selection of hostels and is
my go-to site for finding affordable
hostels online.
• Agoda – Agoda has the best results if
you’re heading to Asia and the widest
selection of properties in the region.
• Booking.com – Booking.com is the
best overall platform for finding
budget hotels and guesthouses. They
have the biggest inventory and best
deals.

Easy Hairstyles for Hot Summer Days

Braids
To get every last stray piece of hair tucked away, you can always count on a braid. And
really – is there anything more summery than a bikini paired with the perfect braided do?
No, no there isn’t.

Pull Through Braid
Top Knot
You’re going to want to keep a few extra hair bands on hand at all times from June to
September, because the top knot is going to be your best friend this season. Always be ready
to whip out a hair tie and pull every last strand of hair off your poor neck.

Ponytail
The aforementioned top knot has overshadowed ponytails as an easy go-to hairstyle in the last
few years, but let’s not forget how versatile, cute, and practical a ponytail is – especially when
it’s sweltering and you have no choice but to leave the air-conditioned comforts of home.

French Twist
Summer weddings call for a slightly more elegant hairstyle, but that doesn’t mean you want to
spend an hour wrestling with your blowdryer. A messier version of the classic French twist only
requires a few bobby pins and hairspray. The less perfect, the better.

Summer 2020's Hottest Fashion Trends
by: Mary Grace Desantores
For those of you who are really chomping at the bit (Do people still use that phrase?) to get
started on your summer ensembles, have no fear. There are already tons of ways to shop each
trend, so you can go ahead and get your wardrobe summer-ready. The selections are bound to
get even bigger in the coming months, though, so if you want to relish in spring a little bit longer,
you’re totally fine. However you like to shop, there’s no denying you’ll be seeing these five trends
everywhere in the next few months.
1. Low-Key
Utility
“A trend for SS19 we’ll be seeing
everywhere is utility, especially
in bottoms! For outfitting, we
love the contrast of pairing
utility silhouettes back to
femme tops, either cropped or
tucked in to highlight the waist
detailing.”
2. Tie-Dye
10
According to fashion expert
Sarah Baum at Macy’s, tiedye
is going to get even
bigger this summer—which
I didn’t think was possible.
Break out your old DIY tiedye
tees from years ago
(unless I’m the only one
who did that) or try a chic
black and white tie-dye. The
possibilities are endless, and
you’re sure to find a tie-dye
version of every article of
clothing this summer.
3. Sheer & Gauzy
Fabrics
Sheer and gauzy pieces are
perfect for layering in the summer
heat, as recommended by a Free
People Representative. Whether
you go super-sheer or stick with
just a little bit of see-through is
up to you, but you can’t go wrong
with this warm-weather trend.
Try it out at the beach over your
swimsuit or over a cute bralette
while shopping. You’ll stay both
cool and on-trend.
4. Neon
Neon is another trend that was big in spring
2019, and it’s here to stay—both Lisa Lam
from Zara and Sarah Baum from Macy’s agree.
Outshine everyone with all the different ways
to rock this trend in the coming months. Try
the trend with top or dress—completely neon
or with neon accents. Or, if you’re not super
committal to the full neon look, you can don
some cute neon accessories and stay right on
trend.
4. Animal Print
Take a walk on the wild side this summer with
weather-appropriate animal print looks. Animal
print has been in style for a while now, and this
summer it’s going to get even bigger. If you’re a
fan of snake print, though, this is your season.
There are so many fun ways to shop animal print,
so there’s definitely a way for every style to rock it
this summer.
