substantial drilling program has
started to assist with the design
of the ‘Urban Stream’ for the
Stirling City Centre.
Planning Minister John Day said the
program consisted of drilling bores to conduct
soil analysis and measure groundwater levels
and water quality, and monitoring stations
in the Osborne Park main drain to measure
fl ow rates and water quality.
“Th e proposed new Stirling City Centre is
a signifi cant project for Western Australia
that demonstrates the State Government’s
commitment to delivering the objectives of
Directions 2031 and Beyond,” Mr Day said.
“Th e plan is to create a cohesive, communityfocused
centre, that supports accessibility
through improved transport infrastructure
and prosperity through local economic
development.
“It is intended to use this stream as the basis
of an ‘urban stream’ through the city centre,
and initial sampling in the 2011 winter
period has shown that the water in this drain
is generally good quality.
“Periodic sampling and analysis will
be undertaken from bores, to enable the
development of a water model for the city
centre, and additional information will be
collected on acid sulphate soil, enabling

Upturn in property activity
The month of August saw an increase in
property activity in Western Australia,
according to Landgate, the State’s offi cial
land information authority.
Landgate Chief Executive, Mike Bradford, said
the August 2011 Business Activity Profi le shows a
notable increase in property activity.
“Th e August 2011 document lodgement fi gures
are up 20% on July’s fi gures and show an increase
of 5% compared to August 2010.
“Although there is usually a seasonal upturn in
August, the increase of 20% is the largest we have
seen in six years,” said Mr Bradford.
Figures for August 2011 still point to a
subdued market, with overall property
activity down 25% on the boom years of
2005 - 2006.
