Sustained growth forecast
for Joondalup
While a number of suburbs
in Perth have felt the
pinch with a recent drop
in property prices, life
in Joondalup is rosy. Housing prices in
Joondalup have remained amongst some of
Perth’s most buoyant over the past year with
the median house price sitting at $480,000
as at June 2011.
So why has this satellite city stayed
relatively immune to property price
fl uctuations?
Mayor Troy Pickard believes Joondalup
has what it takes to sustain continued
growth.
“With considerable commercial, retail and
residential development in the Joondalup
City Centre, Joondalup is now well placed
to become a Primary Centre and Perth’s
second CBD,” says Mayor Pickard.
Joondalup recently beat hundreds of cities
from more than 50 countries to be named a
fi nalist in its respective population category
of the Livcom Awards.
Th e Livcom Awards, initiated in 1997 and
endorsed by the United Nations Environment
Program, is the only international
competition judged on international best
practice for managing the environment
while improving residents’ quality of life by
creating ‘liveable communities’.
From sparkling beaches just a few
kilometres away, to a massive central retail
precinct that enjoys extended trading hours,
there is plenty to see and do in Joondalup.
Joondalup is a transport hub for the
Perth metropolitan region and is extremely
“Joondalup is now well placed
to become a Primary Centre and
Perth’s second CBD”
accessible with free CAT buses that
service the central area, including the
Joondalup Learning Precinct. Th is Precinct
incorporates Edith Cowan University, West
Coast Institute of Training and the Western
Australia Police Academy.
Mayor Pickard says, “Th e Learning
Precinct has played a pivotal role in the
City Centre blossoming into a regional
commercial, cultural, residential and
recreational capital for the north-west
corridor of Perth.”
Having direct access to these major
services, which also includes Joondalup
Health Campus, means Joondalup can
operate as a self-suffi cient city with no need
for residents to travel elsewhere for major
health, education, tourism, retail, fi nance or
professional services.
Many of the retail services enjoy extended
trading, which Mayor Pickard says has been
an important step towards Joondalup’s
growth and development.
“Th e sheer volume of people and shoppers
who are taking advantage of Sunday and
evening trading in Joondalup highlights the
success of this initiative,” Mayor Pickard
explains.
Wining and dining is also a favourite
pastime of Joondalup residents with a range
of South African, Th ai, Italian, and Indian
restaurants paying homage to the diversity
of the region. Th is combined with the
beaches, shopping and recreation options in
the area has ensured there has never been a
better time to discover Joondalup.
