Pre U @ Fairview: Making Waves
As thousands of young people leave
their secondary education and look
forward towards their future, they
are increasingly looking at Fairview’s
International Baccalaureate Diploma
(IBDP) and NCUK International
Foundation Year (IFY) programmes
as their top choices to progress to
universities abroad and locally.
The IBDP is an internationally renowned
diploma programme which runs for a
course of two years. Established by the
non-profit International Baccalaureate
Organisation (IBO), students are given
the option to pick the course of their
choice from six subject groups. Aside
from that, they’ll be required to balance
an additional three core sub-units which
include the Theory of Knowledge (ToK),
the extended essay, and the Creativity,
Activity, Service (CAS).
The IBDP is a perfect fit for motivated
go-getters who are looking into selfdevelopment
alongside their studies.
Beside from focusing solely on
academics, students are able to be
active outside of the classroom and
contribute towards to society in their
own way.
It is a well-known fact that IBDP
graduates can move on easily to
university as they are used to juggling
their priorities. This makes it a good
option for those who are considering
undergoing a rigorous undergraduate
programme which will test them
beyond their academics. Generally the
majority of the top universities provides
additional credits to IBDP students
Celebrating Success @ The World Scholar’s Cup
who score well during their studies. For
instance, institutions such as New York
University, Stanford University, and Ivy
League’s University of Pennsylvania are
some of the many universities in the
world which give out additional credit
hours for IBDP graduates who are
proceeding towards their undergraduate
studies. Generally, IBDP students
adapt better in their university years
as compared to those coming from an
A-levels background.
Meanwhile, the NCUK International
Foundation Year Programme (IFY) that
is exclusively offered by Fairview, offers
students a condensed 9 months preuniversity
programme, for those seeking
to pursue a degree programme in the
United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia and
even the United States. As a 9 months
pre-university programme, the IFY
combines academic study, intensive
English language preparation, study
skills and cultural orientation.
The IFY offers three streams you can
choose from, which are business,
science and engineering, leading to over
1,500 undergraduate majors.
Upon successful completion of the
IFY, students will have guaranteed
access to 12 UK universities, namely
the Aston University, University of
Bradford, University of Huddersfield,
University of Kent, University of
Leeds, Kingston University London,
Leeds Beckett University, Manchester
Metropolitan University, Liverpool
John Moores University, University of
Salford, Sheffield Hallam University and
University of Birmingham among others.
The University of Manchester, described
the IFY, as the best such foundation
year in the market place, for students
who want to do their foundation year in
their home country, and then move on
to a degree programme in the UK.
Todate, more than 5,000 Malaysians
have gone through the IFY, and
progressed to successfully complete
their degree programme.
