The main function of the human

the communicator. These receptors transmit

CB1 & CB2. These are not the only receptors,
but they were the first ones discovered and
have remained the best studied.
The CB1 receptor is expressed mainly in the brain or
central nervous system, but also in the lungs, liver, and
kidneys.
The CB2 receptor is expressed mainly in the immune
system and in hematopoietic cells. They are also
expressed on the peripheral nerve terminals, which
play a role in the relief of pain.

The Endocannabinoid System
Endocannabinoids are molecules that bind to and
activate cannabinoid receptors. Unlike the cannabinoids
found naturally in cannabis, endocannabinoids are
produced naturally by cells in the human body.
(Endo = Endogenous)
The two major endocannabinoids are anandamide and
2-AG. These endocannabinoids are made from fat-like
molecules within cell membranes and are synthesized
on demand.
This means that they get made and used exactly when
they are needed, rather than packaged and stored for
later use like many other biological molecules.
Metabolic Enzymes are enzymes that quickly destroy
endocannabinoids once they are used. The two big
enzymes are FAAH, which breaks down anandamide,
and MAGL, which breaks down 2-AG.
These enzymes are important because they ensure
that endocannabinoids get used when they’re
needed, but not for longer than necessary.
