GUIDELINES FOR OBTAINING A MARRIAGE LICENSE In the Greater Chicago Area, the legal age for marriage is 18 years old; couples
ages 16 or 17 must have parental or guardian consent. In general, there are no blood test or health test requirements to obtain a legal license. Both parties
must be present to apply for a license, which requires proper forms of identification, such as a valid United States driver’s license, passport or a certified
birth record (date of birth must appear on the documentation). In most cases, if either the bride or groom has been previously married, she or he must
know the dates of divorce or death and present a copy of the divorce decree(s) or certificate(s) of dissolution if either event occurred within the last six
months. Licenses can be obtained the same day and are valid for 60 days (beginning the day after it is issued, only in that particular county). The fee varies
from $11 to $60; method of payment varies, as well. Call ahead for details. Offices are typically open Monday through Friday, unless otherwise noted.
