TOP 10 HANGOUTS in SD
It’s midnight, you’ve just gotten out of a movie on a first date, and it’s
going really well. You don’t want the night to end, but where do you
go at midnight? Lestat’s of course! From lattes to cold brew, you’ll
have nothing but options. In addition to a variety of coffee brews and
iced drinks, Lestat’s offers a wide selection of sandwiches and soups,
both for vegetarians and meat lovers. With locations sprawling across
the city of San Diego, Lestat’s is the go-to late night coffee shop. Inspired
by Anne Rice’s novel “Interview with a Vampire” it is modeled
after the infamous New Orleans French Quarter where you can always
find many interesting people after dark.
9. FIFTH AVENUE in HILLCREST
Whether you’re a music fan, a thrift-shop junkie, or just looking for
a bite to eat, ‘Fifth Avenue in Hillcrest’ is the place for you. With food
choices ranging from authentic Pho to some good old-fashioned
American diner grub, and endless shopping opportunities, you won’t
need to venture anywhere else. On a budget? Don’t fret, there’s countless
cafes and coffee houses, all within walking distance, providing a
perfect atmosphere for some good coffee and better conversation.
8. MIRAMAR BREWERIES
Looking to enjoy a selection of craft beer over a game of Connect
Four with good friends? Well look no further. In a day and age where
we see micro-breweries popping up left and right, “Beer-a-mar”, is
home to all the breweries you desire. By providing an extensive selection
of craft beers, a relaxed and intimate atmosphere, and numerous
games, why would you go anywhere else? From the everexpanding
Duck Foot Brewery, to the limited-edition beers of 2Kids
Brewing, the only negative experience is the “choice anxiety” you’ll
face.
7. LIBERTY STATION in POINT LOMA
Tucked away in the corner of San Diego and Point Loma, is the beautifully
quaint Liberty Station. Home to SD staples like The Corvette
Diner and Stone Brewing, Liberty Station provides a variety of places
to eat, or grab a beer, all set against the majestic skyline of San Diego.
The massive 360-acre park is p erfect for a first date, thanks to
the various coffee shops and paths that wind around the entire center.
Whether you’re looking for a place to bring your wife, your kids, or
your guests, Liberty Station is the place to go.
6. LITTLE ITALY
Bordering on downtown San Diego is the one and only hotspot for
Italian food, appropriately coined as Little Italy. While the original
Filippi’s Pizza resides on Little Italy’s own India Street, that’s not the
only place to soak in some San Diego based Italian culture. At one
time a small mom and pop sandwich shop, Mona Lisa is a MUST when
going to Little Italy. As you walk through the authentic Italian market
in front of Mona Lisa, make sure to check out the deli selection.

5. CONVOY STREET
Most people wouldn’t see San Diego as a cultural hub. Much to their
disbelief, however, San Diego is a hotspot for international cuisine.
We’ve told you about Little Italy, but it’s time to tell you about Convoy.
Being the cornerstone for Asian culture in San Diego, Convoy
Street is home to miles of various ramen houses, boba cafes and
some of San Diego’s finest Korean barbeque. Located in the heart of
Kearny Mesa, Convoy Street is a perfect spot to stop for a quick coffee,
or to grab a bite to eat with a big group of friends.
4. NORTH PARK
While the term “hipster” might seem offensive at first, there’s nothing
offensive about the off-beat color of North Park. Home to some of
San Diego’s finest record stores and coffee shops, North Park is the
epicenter of all things up and coming. Grab some beer and waffles at
Belgian Beer & Waffles or as the locals call it “BBW” and catch your
new favorite band right around the corner at The Observatory North
Park. You’ll come for the experience, but you’ll stay for the character
of North Park.
3. PACIFIC BEACH
So, we’ve given the lowdown on where to go for a nice afternoon,
and a relaxed evening, but if you happen to be looking for something
with a bit more nightlife, Pacific Beach is the place for you!
Commonly referred to as PB, Pacific Beach is home to some of San
Diego’s most hip and happening bars, like ‘El Prez’ and ‘Backyard
Kitchen and Tap’. While PB appears to only cater to young college
students, it has a bit of something for everyone. Come cruise Garnet
Ave. for miles of fun!
2. SOUTH PARK
Just south of North Park is the cleverly named, South Park (we know,
it’s a bit on the nose). It’s a great place to go and grab something to
eat, or even just walk around. take a stroll down Fern street and take
in the beautifully quaint scenery as large trees line the streets. From
boutiques to independent coffee houses, South Park has it all.
1. BALBOA PARK
What would San Diego be without Balboa Park? Home to San Diego’s
best museums and scenery, Balboa Park is the perfect place
for a family outing. Go explore the Fleet Science Center, learn at the
Natural History Museum, or gaze at one of the many art museums
in Balboa Park. If you’re more interested in outdoor activities, follow
one of the countless trails that weave in and out of 1,200-acre plot
that is Balboa Park.

What’s Popping in
Snap, Crackle, Pop! Every now and then we come across
these little mom and pop shops we share with our friends
and family, and co-workers, there is nothing sweeter than
some homemade gourmet caramel popcorn, The grand
opening of Popping Kettle, Gourmet Popcorn and Boba
Tea shop new at “The Shoppes in Carlsbad”!
Carlsbad?
BY MICHAEL DRENTEA
Have a sweet tooth? No problem, Popping Kettles own
gourmet caramel or butter scotch toffee popcorn, hot
fudge, or sweet Granny Smith caramel apples might do
the trick. With so many savory flavors of sweet and salty to
choose from, they make for a perfect snack, or great gift
idea this Valentine’s Day.
Need some spice in your life? Spice things up a bit with
some warm toasty jalapeno & cheese popcorn with just
the perfect amount of fuego, that will have you craving
seconds in no time. Thirsty? Quench your thirst with some
world famous boba tea. An Asian delight, boba tea is a
Taiwanese tea created in Tainan and Taichung during the
1980s that gained popularity in the United States the past
decade. Other names are also bubble tea, tapioca tea, and
pearl milk tea.
Two fan-favorites are brewed black tea with a splash of
milk, and sugar and “Pearls”, a yummy chewy tapioca ball.
On a hot day, cool down with a cold press hibiscus passion
fruit brew with popping pearls, usually containing some
type of fruit jelly, grass jelly, Agar jelly, or Aloe vera jelly.
Whichever you choose, either or is a great choice.
Located downstairs near the elevator, you will discover
sweet tantalizing smells that will lead you to Popping Kettle,
opening its doors February 1st, 2020. Owner David Addy
says it’s a dream come true, and he is excited to open his
doors to the community and invites everyone to come in
and visit, and shop the newly renovated mall, grab some
drinks or dinner at one of the restaurants and bars, come
into Popping Kettle and grab some gourmet popcorn and
catch a film at the cinemas.

MERDO
ACRES
WOOD DESIGN STUDIO
Merdo Acres Wood Design Studio is making waves as a new
functional art wood store in the quaint little mountain town
of Julian, California. Brian and Molly Hodo (Owners of Merdo
Acres), opened their first retail store of their handmade
wood products in the once operated fruit processing plant,
Julian Station, which is located in Wynola, CA, in August of
2019. (Wynola is on the outskirts of Julian on Hwy 78).
What were you both interested in growing up?
Molly grew up in Northwest Iowa, graduated with a BS in
the art field in college, and specialized in different mediums
throughout her career which included jewelry making,
painting, drawing, wood working, sculpture, photography and
graphic design. She started her art career as a graphic designer
at an Advertising Agency in Sioux City, IA. Brian grew
up in Southern California surfing, skiing and snowboarding
and has always had a passion for being creative and making
art out of wood or other materials. He has been a musician
12
(percussionist) most of his life and has even made percussion
instruments out of exotic woods and metals.
How did the story of Merdo Acres begin?
It started as a simple plan with two last names coming together
to form a business name for their acreage in the
Cuyamaca Woods of Julian in 2015. The couple wanted to
live more simply and be creative in what they love – functional
art handmade by both of them. Molly is a graphic
designer, artist and marketing professional who recently
worked at a commercial aerospace manufacturing business
as a sales and marketing professional, but wanted to step out
of the big corporate world and enjoy being an artist again.
Brian spent a lot of his years wood working just for a hobby
and enjoying hours in the wood shop making gifts for family
members and friends. He worked for over 14 years in the fire
service profession and retired from CalFire as a Fire Captain
in San Diego County, a few years ago.
Merdo Acres designs and creates a variety of wood products
from area native woods and also exotic hardwoods
purchased from a select few vendors in the San Diego area
(Made Lumber, TH&H and Tropical Exotic Hardwoods). “We
love creating special pieces that people can enjoy in their
home, office or as gifts for those special occasions. We specialize
in one of a kind cutting boards, charcuterie boards,
grazing boards, serving platters, rustic live edge furniture,
custom signs, fireplace mantels and much more.” States
Molly Hodo. “There are many places you can buy these types
of items, but shopping local and supporting small business
is what we encourage and what we like to do also when we
purchase items. Why buy from the big box stores when you
can get locally handmade, original pieces no one else has,
and also get them personalized why you wait?”
Woodworking is a craft that is slowly losing its following because
of large manufacturers and machines that are doing
all of the work, and not actual people. The Hodo’s want to
make sure that everything they do is handcrafted and made
by the two of them, not an actual machine or large business
that imports from overseas. They also do custom orders for
caterers, restaurants, tasting rooms, wineries and individual
requests such as tables, coffee tables, bars and mantels, and
all of these can be personalized with laser engraving.
The Hodo’s wanted to make sure they could do all of this out
of their wood shop on their property in the Cleveland National
Forest, all while living completely off the grid powered
by solar panels, batteries, a generator and propane. “Being
on the grid is not an option in our area so we had a lot of
learning to do when we bought our property. One concern
was being able to use all of our power tools and machinery
when the sun wasn’t out, so we did a lot of upgrades to our
system in order to support the wood shop area.” Explains
Brian Hodo. “One of the good things about California is the
sun is usually out and shining bright, which benefits the solar
energy production greatly. We’ve only run into a few weeks
out of the year that it’s cloudy or we have precipitation, and
our generator handles those days.” As they grow, they want
to be able to build other structures on their property that will
also be strictly solar, and running off of the sun and generators.
Those buildings will be used for a top of the line clean
room (to do epoxy/ finishing), a sanding room and storage
for supplies.
What sets the Hodo’s apart is their undying work ethic to
their craft, and hand making those special pieces for people
to treasure for years to come. They also love educating
their customers on the process, the varieties of woods
used, the ways to take care of their handmade creations,
once they leave their shop. They are happy to be just a
two person team, and want to keep it small and simple,
while creating pieces for others to enjoy - functional art
is their passion!
They sell their one of kind pieces at Julian Station (4470
Julian Road, Julian, CA) in their retail store, Merdo Acres
Wood Design Studio, which is open on the weekends
(Friday, Saturday and Sunday). Most of their items can be
purchased on their website www.merdoacres.com, 24
hours a day, or if there’s special requests, email them at
merdoacres@yahoo.com.

What’s Brewing at
Union Kitchen & Tap?
BY NICK BIANCO
The food is out of this world, the beer menu will make your
head spin, and the location could not be better. Strategically
placed in the heart of Encinitas on Highway 101 is
Union Kitchen and Tap. Walking distance from the beach
and countless shops, Union is a great place to go to after
a beach day or a day of shopping. Regardless, you’ll always
feel welcome at Union kitchen & tap.
Upon walking in, you’ll immediately notice the warm atmosphere
and a friendly greeting. Union seems to present
itself as a sports bar with class. While TVs can be found in
almost every corner, the exposed foundation and piping
work as a perfect canvas for the DIY theme of the restaurant.
Their extensive selection of local craft beers on tap
can be found handwritten on the blackboard that can be
seen from above the walkway as you walk in as well. While
their decor and interior design choices are impressive in
themselves, the food and drink menu are equally, if not
more impressive.
With so many compatible food/beer possibilities, choice
anxiety is a definite possibility. On the chance that you run
into this problem, feel free to ask one of the many knowledgeable
staff members what they recommend. While
we were there, we decided to go with their famous Union
Gumbo, and we cannot recommend it enough. In a place
like Southern California, it can be difficult to come across
quality gumbo at times.
on the lighter side should pair pretty-well. While the gumbo
is rich and full of different flavors, pairing it with a beer
like the Blanche De Chambly allows those flavors to come
through and punctuate them, without overpowering
them. Although we were only able to try out the gumbo,
we think it’s safe to assume that the rest of the menu will
live up to the expectation that the Union Gumbo has set.
With two locations, one in downtown and the other in
Encinitas, Union Kitchen & Tap show no signs of stopping
and should be the only one on your radar. At Union Kitchen
& Tap, you can bet that you’ll be met with some great
customer service, and even better food.
TWO LOCATIONS:
Local Union (Encinitas)

IG @unionkitchentap
Union Gaslamp (Downtown)
333 Fifth Ave, San Diego, Ca. 92101
@uniongaslamp
With that being said, Union Kitchen &
Tap, has raised the bar. At first taste,
the dish is rich and full of savory
flavors, with just enough spice on
the back end to give the gumbo one
good push. Packed to the brim with
Andouille Sausage and smoked
chicken, the Union Gumbo is the
epitome of soul food with a twist.
There’s no better way to pair this
rich dish than with a light Belgian
style wheat beer. While we found
the white Blanche De Chambly beer
to pair nicely with the gumbo, any beer

Different Types of EarSeeds
Ear seeds from EarSeeds.com come in a wide variety
of materials for different appearances… Traditional ear
seeds utilize a natural seed from the vaccaria plant to
apply pressure. The tape that holds them in place is a
tan color. (The tape on vaccaria seeds contains natural
latex rubber.)
More luxurious options include 24 karat gold acupressure
pellets that are held in place with clear, latexfree
tape. They are subtle and look like delicate, tiny
piercings.
For an extra dose of fun, you can also get Ear Seeds
embellished with genuine Swarovski Crystals. These
look like sparkling chic earrings and are incredibly
popular at events and wellness gatherings.
Unless you’ve been hanging out under a rock for the
past year, you’ve probably started hearing about Ear
Seeds. Maybe you’ve even tried them! They’re everywhere,
from high fashion magazines to spas, holistic
clinics, wellness events --- everyone is suddenly clamoring
to learn a bit about this unusual, rapidly trending,
fun and effective wellness modality.
Do they hurt? What about side-effects?
While you might feel a bit of tenderness at the area
of application, ear seeds are generally a pain & sideeffect-free
modality. In some cases, particularly when
dealing with pain and injury, there can be more tenderness
than is desired. The ear may even become
warm and red at the application site. This is generally
a good sign, as it indicates the ear points are “active”
and the body is responding to the stimulation. If the
tenderness is too painful, especially for sleeping, you
can remove the ear seeds and replace them in the
morning.
As the pain in your body dissipates, you’ll notice the
pain on the ear does as well. Incredibly enough, applying
ear seeds in that exact same area a week later,
So, what exactly are Ear Seeds?
Ear seeds are tiny acupressure pellets that are affixed
on the surface of the ear with small patches of adhesive
tape.
The ear contains a network of hundreds of nerve endings,
which are linked directly to the message centers
of the brain. Stimulation of these points, or nerve
endings, is called Auriculotherapy.
While there are a number of ways to stimulate these
points, including everything from massage to acupuncture
needles, ear seeds are small, non-invasive,
easy-to-apply acupressure devices that provide gentle
stimulation for days at a time.
That stimulation sends signals to the brain which gets
communicated to the entire body. It’s really all about
where the seeds are placed. There are points on the
ear for just about anything including physical pain,
emotional imbalance, digestion, and the organs.
Ear seeds get to the root of the issue by inducing homeostasis
or balance within the body.
16
when there is no pain in the associated body part, will
not create tenderness in the ear!
Want to try ear seeds?
Well, the good news is, because they are non-invasive
and easy to apply, you can actually purchase a kit
from EarSeeds.com that will teach you the points for
whatever condition you are dealing with.
Whether migraines, back pain, stress or anxiety, or if
you are looking for some support fighting cravings so
you can drop a few pounds, they’ve got a kit for you!
Want to get even more from your ear seeds? See
a trained practitioner!
Many health and wellness providers, including acupuncturists,
massage therapists, nurses, yoga instructors,
coaches, vibrational sound healers, reiki masters
- and even “regular” individuals who are just holistic-minded,
have started to understand the powerful
impact that ear seeds can have on one’s overall
health, and have pursued in-depth training and Ear-
Seeds Certification through EarSeedsAcademy.com.
If you’ve got a complicated condition or have tried
ear seeds on your own with mixed results, you may
benefit from seeing an EarSeeds Certified Practitioner
who can customize an Auriculotherapy treatment
plan just for you!
What can I expect at an EarSeeds session?
An EarSeeds Certified Practitioner is trained to be
able to read your ear and treat it according to your
auricular indicators. What does that mean? Well, the
ear not only houses this complex network of nerves, it
actually changes in appearance & acts as a mirror to
what is going on with your overall health. Your practitioner
will talk with you about what they’re seeing
and then select a variety of specific points to seed.
They will usually clean the ear with a bit of alcohol
17
and feel around in different areas of the ear with a
probe or tweezers, looking for tender areas to indicate
activated points. They will explain to you what
they are doing, and what they are looking for, they
may even snap a picture of the indicators on your ear
that they’re identifying and show you what they see.
After placement, your practitioner will instruct you
how often to press on the seeds. For general wellbeing
and stress, you can press on them periodically
throughout the day. For weight management, it helps
to press when you feel a craving coming on, and for
acute pain, like pulled muscles or injuries, you may
find that pressing more often brings relief to the affected
area, so you can press them more often.
What kinds of problems can ear seeds help with?
With hundreds of ear points, for everything from
physical pain to emotional imbalance, and points for
nearly every body part, an EarSeeds Certified Practitioner
can dig below the surface of your symptoms
and customize a treatment plan to address almost
any condition. That does not mean it can cure any
type of condition, but auriculotherapy has been
shown to help alleviate symptoms and help people
with so many things including headaches, back pain,
vertigo, menstrual issues, allergies, hormonal imbalances,
digestive issues and so much more.
How long does it take to see results?
There is no clear answer to this question since everyone
is different. Many factors including the type of
PEEL PLACE
PRESS!
condition, the root cause, presentation and individual
response all affect treatment plan and response time.
Some people feel a result instantaneously or within
minutes. For others, it may take 24-48 hours, or it
may require a number of treatments over a matter of
weeks. Your practitioner may choose different points
from one appointment to the next in order to suss out
which combination of points are having the greatest
impact to achieve the results you’re looking for. Be
patient, listen to your body.
But really, does it work?
According to the World Health Organization, the ear
is perhaps the most studied microsystem of the entire
body. There have been hundreds of books written
in dozens of languages, and the modality is practiced
around the world. A quick search of Auriculotherapy
+ PubMed studies will bring up a host of research
studies that speak to the efficacy of the modality. It’s
truly incredible what a powerful tool our ears are for
our health and well-being!

Inspired, he developed yet another whiskey/nut butter

was billed as the eateries most popular drink.
The Yengs quickly realized that the “liquid peanut butter cup”
could – and should – become a national treasure.
With diligence and dedication, the duo experimented with
vegan friendly and gluten- free ingredients. Through trial and

Ocean Beach residents – and high school sweethearts – Steven
and Brittany Yeng serve as the designers and sole proprietors
of the 70-proof, peanut butter whiskey treasure that’s
splashing its way through the distillery industry as a showstopping
disruptor.
The husband and wife duo have garnered awards the likes of
a Double Gold Medal for Best Flavored Whiskey in the New
York World Wine & Spirits Competition in 2018 and 2019 plus
the Gold Medal Whiskey Award during the 2019 Los Angeles
International Spirits Competition.
Steven, a self-described foodie and former “watering hole”
owner of the OB Noodle House (featured on The Food Network’s
Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives) and Bar 1502 – also located
in Ocean Beach – is described by Brittany as “gifted” in the
arena of “mixology.”
Brittany also noted Steven’s passion for peanut butter juxtaposing
the smooth nut butter with ketchup.
“He puts it on everything,” she said.
So how does one concoct a peanut butter whiskey?
While entertaining his “band of misfits, black sheep and
skrewballs,” Steven discovered that his signature shot at the
Noodle House – a sake and peanut butter drink – was an instant
hit.
Brittany, a chemist touting a law degree, not only developed
the proprietary formula that affords Skrewball a shelf-life, she
sorted through the legal “nuts and bolts” of marketing the
whiskey locally before taking it nationwide.
The couples work ethic, determination and downright enthusiasm
spearheaded the expeditious growth of the nutty
nectar through all 50 states.
“We’ve seen unprecedented growth in each market we’ve
hit,” continued Brittany. “Skrewball is setting sales records
and making a splash as one of the fastest roll outs in spirits
history.”
Both have left their day jobs to focus on marketing the delicious
imbibe to international success.
“The Skrewball brand goes beyond whiskey,” concluded Brittany.
“Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey is a lifestyle that’s
about friendship. Grab a glass and release your inner black
sheep!”
Both agree that the drink invites whiskey drinkers and those
that want-to-be whiskey drinkers into a world of nutty love!
Make every day Valentine’s Day with Skrewball Peanut Butter
Whiskey.

VALENTINE’S DAY
ETIQUETTE411
Photo: Crystal Carr
Whether you’re the one who is flying solo, just getting started, or riding the
marriage train we all need a bit of advice on how to celebrate a day for lovers.
Valentine’s Day can bring on so much pressure when it comes to relationships.
I’ve got some tips here on how to make this day special and in some cases keep
the lovin’ going all year long.
You’re Not in a Relationship...
Okay, someone asks if you have plans and you think it’s
lame to say that you don’t. Well hey take control of your
V Day agenda and make it a day to remember. You don’t
have to be in love with someone else – you can be in love
with life itself. Plan a fabulous get together with friends (or
a friend) or even by yourself! Do something that’s going
to keep you off the out-for-the-night couple’s path. You
can make it a night in with a Dessert & Champagne Party
or Mexican & Margarita themed fiesta. Whatever you do
don’t be glum spice it up and have fun!
You’re in a New Relationship...
If you’ve been dating for a very short time, then don’t creep
the other person out by being overly romantic. Keep it
simple but celebrate the day by making it fun. It’s perfectly
fine to exchange cards (be careful of the wording) or even
a simple gift. Nix the romantic dinner and do something
non-pressure like catch the latest (non-romantic) movie
or go bowling. You can even pop into your neighborhood
coffee spot that features live music by local musicians.
You Want to Add some Zing to Your
Marriage...
Make it a 7-day V Day treat. Don’t just roll out the red carpet
for just one night. Let this Valentine’s Day be the first
stop of your journey of reconnecting and jumpstarting
a hot torrid affair with your sweetie. Whatever you plan
make a commitment to each other that you will do the
same thing (or something like it) on 7 different days with
this day being day 1. Just spread the days throughout the
year. Make up some cute cards that you can cash into one
another when you feel the need to spice it up and have
some couple time.
Plan something Uber romantic. If you’ve got kids, get
someone to keep them. If they’re really small you might
have to pay a sitter to stay overnight rather than send
them out. (Hey, keeping it quiet so not to disturb the sitter
might be a game in itself). Whether you go out to a candlelight
dinner and wind up at home with rose petals and
a silk teddy. Or get a room for the night and have room
service. Do something romantic and then do it again, and
again – 7 times that is.

BRINGING JOY
BY MICHAEL DRENTEA & NICK BIANCO
In a day and age where all your music can be found on various streaming platforms, these platforms are missing the key ingredient,
personality. Radio has been around since 1900, and while the music itself has been available on some sort of physical medium since
then, the DJs, announcers and commentators have always been the ones to keep the audience hooked and listening after the song
has ended. It takes a very special type of person to entertain the way that DJs do, and BTC was lucky enough to pick the brains of San
Diego’s most legendary radio DJs.
DJ Julian Ramirez @djjulianramirez
From North County’s Carlsbad, to SiriusXM’s satellite radio, DJ Julian Ramirez is blasting off!
Spinning since the late 1990’s, Julian says he was influenced early on from various DJ’s, “My sister
was always throwing parties and seeing DJ’s come over to his house and spin, making people
vibe and dance was incredible as a young teenager. Later, I started going to huge raves at warehouses
where the DJ spinning had the power to control the entire room, tempo and energy of
the crowd no matter how big or small, and I knew I wanted to pursue it more”.
Listening to lots of different music and DJ’s has helped influence DJ Julian Ramirez’s his musical
palate, and spins using an open format style, playing multiple genres from anything from Metallica,
to Dr. Dre, from Disco, to house, hip-hop, to pop and top 40.
DJ Julian Ramirez earned his stripes working with DJ Skee’s Dash Radio, getting his own show

for 2 years called “Finesse Boyz”, before venturing into “Soul Assassins Radio” with SiriusXM’s,
Shade 45 airing Friday’s at 11pm PST with Cypress Hill’s DJ Muggs, and DJs, DJ Ern Dogg and DJ Julian Ramirez. This past 2019, DJ Julian Ramirez has
DJ’s for Psycho Realm, Cypress Hill, Travis Barker, DJ Rhettmatic of the ‘World Famous Beat Junkies Crew’, Roc Marciano, Meyhem Lauren a popular
fixture from rapper Action Bronson’s food documentary, “Fuck That’s Delicious”, and Shepard Fairey, Owner of Obey Clothing.
He has produced beats for rapper The Game, was hand-picked by rap legend Dr. Dre for a mega-mix for his Aftermath website. This 2020, DJ Julian
Ramirez is currently focused on working on his production and producing new beats in the Soul Assassins studios. Download the SiriusXM radio app,

Hosting various hip-hop and R&B shows such as his ever popular “Weekly Hip-Hop and R&B

Alyssa @lyssahabes
Alyssa Haberman known simply as “Alyssa” is popular charismatic on-air radio personality at
ALT 949 San Diego on channel 94.9 FM. Alyssa says, “I started DJing in 2011 at my college radio
station at Kent State my first semester as something to do for fun, however I quickly realized
that radio was something I actually wanted to make a career out of. I did that all 4 years of
school, then got a job at WDJQ Q92 FM a Top 40 radio station in Canton, Ohio a few months out
of college. “Radio feels like my home and my show is always something I look forward to doing,
I never feel like it’s really work”. Fast-forward a year later, in 2016, she joined the ALT 949 team.
Program Director, Kevin Callahan said of Alyssa, “I’m excited for Alyssa to join the team at FM
949. Alyssa is a bright young talent with unique perspective and the desire to win, her no fear
attitude and vision are exactly what radio needs in 2016 and beyond”.
“My biggest milestone of 2019 was definitely getting the gig of becoming the Music Director
Photo: Nick Bianco
at ALT 949. Music has always been such a passion of mine, so getting to not only talk about the
music daily but dig into exactly what we play has been super fun. The biggest thing I’m trying to focus on in 2020 is really expanding my on-air stuff
to social media. I want to use what I do on-air to create more content and make more videos! I live on social media and it’s become such a huge
part of the radio world, so I’m excited to work on making my social media presence more tailored to what I do on the radio.”
As far as music goes Alyssa tells BTC, “I’m so all over the place with music. Alternative has always been my go-to—from pop punk to emo to grunge. I
love bands The Story So Far, Panic! At the Disco, and Nirvana and rising artists like Billie Eilish and Rex Orange County, whom are two of my favorites
right now that we’ve been adding to our playlist. It’s crazy because they’re both so young, but so crazy talented and making music like I’ve never
heard before. It’s genre-bending...mostly because they’re making music that can’t be boxed into just one category, and I love that. They’re making
music that’s interesting and so far outside of the classic “norm” of any type of music and I’m really excited to see what they put out next”. But I appreciate
so much music. I’ve been jamming a lot of Ariana Grande, Lizzo, Doja Cat, Kid Cudi, bbno$ and Alison Wonderland lately too!” Alyssa can
be heard on middays on ALT 94.9, hooking people up with Coachella 2020 wristbands, tune-In!
DJ J-Wealth @djjwealth
A prominent San Diego Disc-Jockey who segued from San Diego to Los Angeles, DJ J-Wealth
recently was featured on the cover of “Overtime Hustling Magazine” and again later featured
in a spread with popular San Diego rapper Mitchy Slick. Wealth says, “A huge reason I started to
DJ was because I remember being at clubs and having the best time of my life because the DJ
created that vibe, DJs’ also ruined plenty of nights by not spinning good music or just messing
the mix up, I always had a good ear for music and wanted to create a good vibe. Many years
ago, it was DJ Drowzzzy Drew who first showed me the ropes and gave me my first opportunity
spinning so-to-speak”.
Transitioning from life in San Diego to Los Angeles was much faster, “I remember driving everyday
day from SD up to LA, trying to make a name for myself and really investing in my brand.
Everyone loves talking about one’s success, however there are some real behind the scenes
struggles I had to overcome to build my brand, and to get investors. You can get a little nervous,
and you need to really rely on yourself being your biggest fan and being brutally honest with yourself”.

DJ J- Wealth will be celebrating his 4 Year Anniversary at DJ Skee’s Dash Radio as host of “The Fixxx Audiocast” with hosts Codigo Red and Capo,
one of Dash Radio’s most popular hip-hop radio shows. This 2020, Dash Radio will be bringing a whole new vibe to the shows they broadcast. New to
the segment, and very similar to when MTV’s TRL was on-air with Carson Daily, viewers and fans outside on the Hollywood street can peer in through
the windows and see the artists being interviewed which I know many people are excited about. DJ J-Wealth also DJ’s for both Interscope Records,
and Geffen Records, and looks to release 1 DJ mix every month. He will be hosting and spinning Live from SXSW Music Festival this March 13-22, 2020.
