Afternoon tea
There’s something special about afternoon tea. It’s an
experience that can be enjoyed by all ages. Finger sandwiches
served alongside pretty pastries and pots of tea – or if you’re
feeling extra fancy, a flute of Champagne! There’s a huge choice
of establishments throughout the region. Spend a delightfully
decadent afternoon at a stately home tearoom like Wrest Park
or a plush hotel such as University Arms in Cambridge. Keep it
traditional with a cosy café or try a quirky destination such as
Carriages in Fen Drayton.
Spas
Mum’s do a lot, what better to thank her for everything she
does by treating her to a pamper session. Spas offer a range
of packages; full and half days, afternoon tea, twilight sessions
and overnight stays. Relax at the sauna and steam, take a gentle
swim and indulge in a massage – bliss! A few favourite locations
include Aqua Sana at Elveden Forest and Ufford Park Hotel in
Woodbridge.
Punting
Step aboard the wooden punts and drift down the River Cam
taking in the sights of Cambridge. There’s the choice to self-punt
or hire a guide. Make it fun with an on board picnic or bottle
of bubbles! Reputable companies include Scuadmores and
Rutherfords.
Vineyard
You may be surprised to learn East Anglia is home to a number
of vineyards, which produce some of England’s best wine. Enjoy
samples, tour the vines, learn more about the growing process
and pick up a bottle to take home with you. Most vineyards also
have an on-site eatery so you can stop for lunch too!
Chocolate courses
Feel like Willy Wonka for the day with a chocolate workshop.
Chocolatiers will teach you about textures and flavours and be
on hand to assist throughout the experience. There might be
opportunities to sample a few too! Book at Chappel Chocolate
in Colchester, The Choccie Drop in Abbotts Langley or Artistry in
Cocoa in Newmarket.
