100 years of

Welwyn

Garden City

It’s a special year for Welwyn Garden City as it celebrates

its centenary. There’s a year of celebrations planned to

mark the major milestone.

A huge carnival kicked off the 100 years Welwyn Garden

City celebrations in January, but there’s still over 100

planned events to be enjoyed by residents and visitors.

Sports and leisure facilities will be hosting over 50 events

such as group cycling and triathlons, and competitions

throughout the year. Local schools have taken part in

a planting scheme which will see bulbs and fruit trees

bloom during the year.

To ensure you don’t miss out on the activity, we’ve

picked key events to pop into your diary:

City of Trees

and Centenary Walk Launch

The City of Trees project celebrates the 19,000 trees

across the town and introduces four walks. View the

town from a new perspective with the help of the

Centenary Walk team. Take the 20.20km circular walk

and embrace Ebenezer Howard’s vision of ‘a marriage of

town and country’.

On Saturday 14 March, stop by The Howard Centre and

learn more about Welwyn Garden City’s green spaces

and try out one of the new walks.
