4. Interior design

3. Main room makeovers

Your bathroom and kitchen are two of the most used rooms in

the house, and it’s important that they not only look good, but

that they’re also functional and hygienic. They’re also rooms

where people tend to start when it comes to renovating, so why

not give them a little freshen up?

Tom Floyd, property buying expert at We Buy Any House said:

“The kitchen is one of the first pictures people will look at when

searching for new homes on Rightmove and Zoopla. Always

a key selling point for a home, making sure that all cupboards

handles and doors have that newly bought look is key. Paint and

varnish can go a long way here, as well as replacing any broken

or old handles.”

Your home needs to look good to those who are viewing it. So

how do you do that? “A good interior design is an excellent tool

if you’re after a short-term fix,” says Julian Prieto, founder and

head designer at MyEdge2.com. “For example, if you’re planning

to sell the property but you don’t have the budget or rights to

renovate/extend your property. The key is to always keep design

simple and uncomplicated with focal points in each room. To

achieve this, you need to have a very clear idea of how the space

is going to be used.

“Clean, uncluttered spaces are a must. Whilst it is impossible

to live an uncluttered life one must make sure the furnishings

chosen are fit for purpose in dimensions and style.”

5. Garden spruce up

It doesn’t cost a lot to give your garden a bit of TLC, but it can

add a little more value to your home, and it’s an essential part of

kerb appeal.

Tom Floyd, weighs in again here: “Allowing a potential buyer

to picture themselves and their family in a garden is key.

Maintaining a tidy garden, in which all available space is clearly

presented, can make the overall size of a property appear bigger

and more appealing to buyers. The basics like a freshly mowed

lawn, trimmed hedges and a fixed fence will create this look. First

impressions are key, and your potential buyer will often see both

online and when viewing the property your front garden first.”

When it comes to doing up your home, it can be difficult not to

overspend. Especially when spending that money comes with

the hope of getting it back once the property is sold. However,

there’s no guarantee that you’re going to get it all back, so it’s

important to spend wisely whatever you decide to do to spruce

things up.
