How to Add Value
to your Home
(according to the experts)
Almost all of us will sell a home at some point in our lives.
Even if you’re not planning on moving any time soon, it’s well
worth knowing how to add value to your home. Ultimately it
all depends on what money you have to spare and the level of
investment you’re willing to put in, but whatever your budget,
there’s always something you can do to send the value higher.
2. Replacing old windows
1. Fix structural defects
Big structural defects will stick out like a sore thumb to any house
viewer who knows their stuff. Not only do they not look good, but
they can also be a huge turn-off for people even if your house is
their dream home. It’s best to take care of any structural problems
before opening your doors.
This one can make all the difference if you’re holding out for a
higher offer. “Windows cannot be overlooked when it comes
to upgrading your home,” says James Howard, managing
director of YES Glazing. “Double glazing is now considered to
be standard across the board, even triple glazing if you live on a
main road or an inner city and want to preserve the peace and
quiet of your own four walls. Not only are they one of the first
things people notice (so are important aesthetics-wise) but they
also play a huge part in energy conservation. Drafty windows not
only make for an uncomfortable home - which nobody wants -
but they also let in cold air causing you to turn the thermostat up
and your bills to skyrocket.”
“there’s always something you
can do to send the value higher.”
