Give your home a makeover starting with the floor. Often
overlooked, flooring can hugely impact a room. Good flooring is an
investment, it’s best to choose an option that is hardwearing and
stands the test of time.
1. Individuality is key for 2020 so take the time to consider your
spaces and look for ways to put your own stamp on it; ensuring it is
a place you love to spend time in.

2. Making a choice that blends quality, style and affordability
is essential and allows you to update your home without huge
expense and hassle.
3. In terms of colours whites, lilacs, blues and greens will be
popular; with pattern, texture and layering remaining a way to add a
point of difference to a scheme.

rugs buyer at Carpetright

you through 2020 and beyond…
4. When decorating with white start with a simple plain base,
on walls and floors, and layer in a variety of textures, shapes and
materials to add interest and keep the room from looking too stark.
5. As a throwback to the iconic 80s Memphis movement,
combine geometric shapes and a pop-art palette for a cool yet
kitsch feel; particularly in living rooms.
6. Don’t be afraid to get creative, be playful and push the
boundaries by choosing mix and match furniture and accessories
that add colour and joy to a space.
7. When space is at a premium look for ways to make every room
multifunctional and work as hard as it can; whether it is a bedroom
turned office or kitchen with a reading nook. In these areas select
hard-wearing flooring, that won’t fade due to frequent use.
8. Carpet tiles are perfect for homes and rental properties.
Installed tightly together, they don’t need to be fixed down and
will make a room feel more homely, with minimal effort. Should an
area become stained or damaged there is no need for a complete
flooring overhaul, simply replace the individual tiles with a fresh
piece and your flooring will be good as new.
9. Keep flooring as clean as possible to stop dirt from spreading
to the rest of the house. Vacuuming frequently, especially in areas
which see a lot of footfall, will help prolong the life of the carpet and
reduce build-up of dirt and dust.
10. Well placed rugs can help to zone areas or create different
styles in each space. They offer a chance to inject a little personality
and although you don’t necessarily need to match prints and
patterns, it is a good idea to opt for a style that shares colours with
other pieces in the space to help tie the look together.
