hand. The bearded rider on his rearing horse attempts to spear the young man. To the
right three men engage. In the centre is a bearded man who has just dismounted from
his wounded horse. A young man to the left grasps him by the hair, his sword ready
to strike. The older man struggles to free himself while drawing his sword in defence.
Meanwhile, another young man behind him, holding a shield in one hand, prepares
to spear the older man.
It is a lively scene full of activity and expectations, not at all unlike that depicted on
the Perederiiva mogila helmet with its interaction between old and young warriors.
It may be that it was intended to illustrate the same incident, whether historical or
mythical.
