gallery of objects

(State Hermitage Museum, St Petersburg)

Found in a side chamber of the Solokha burial sited on the left bank of the Dnieper

during the excavations by N. I. Veselovsky in 1913. Early fourth century bc.

The cup, 121 mm in height, is made of silver with the figures and other elements

of the decoration highlighted with gilding. The cup has a simple rim, a foot ring, and

two lug handles. The body is divided into two zones of unequal size by a band of guilloche

set below its maximum diameter. Just below the rim is a two-strand garland of

vine leaves. The lower zone is decorated with closely spaced elongated petals. The

upper zone depicts four separate scenes.
