2 Chastye Kurgany beaker

Forty-one burial mounds, sometimes known as the Frequent Barrows, lie on the

right bank of the Don not far from the city of Voronezh. The beaker was discovered

in kurgan 3 excavated in 1911 by S. E. Zverev. It was found next to the body of the principal

occupant of the tomb. Fourth century bc.

The beaker, 105 mm in height, is made of silver with gilding used to enhance the

figures. The vessel has a bulbous body with a tall narrow neck and out-curved lip.
