8.6a/b Cape with tight sleeves from kurgan 2 at Pazyryk. Made from squirrel skin with the fur inward.
The outer surface is ornamented with leather cut-out patterns dyed dark red. The lower edge is trimmed
with a band of black colt’s fur with a border of another fur dyed blue.
8.7 (Opposite) Woman’s shoe from kurgan 2 at Pazyryk. Made from leather with fur upper sewn together
with red thread. Decorated with appliqué work of fine red leather and sinew covered in strips of tin foil
to imitate beadwork. The sole is made of leather wrapped with red cloth decorated with diamond shapes
made of strips of rolled red leather inset with pyrite crystals. They were clearly meant to be seen.
