6.7 From the main area of Scythian settlement in Hungary represented by the Vekerzug culture, Scythian-style
material, principally arrowheads, is seen to fan out across western and northern Europe. This
may have been the result of exchange systems, raids, or both.
Sigynnae mentioned by Herodotus as a people who dwell beyond the Danube, dress
like Medes, and use horse-drawn vehicles (Hist. iv. 9).
The Vekerzug culture is known largely from cemetery sites which display a variety
of burial rites and have produced Scythian-style weapons and horse gear as well as
locally produced material. One of the most elaborate burials, that of an elite warrior,
