EVEN TODAY, MAINSTREAM FEMALE DJS ARE RARE, AND 25 YEARS
AGO WHEN TRACY YOUNG FIRST STEPPED INTO A DJ BOOTH IT WAS

WHO CHOSE TRACY TO SPIN AT HER WEDDING. SHE HAS ALSO
CREATED REMIXES FOR GLORIA ESTEFAN, SHAKIRA, PINK,
BRITNEY SPEARS, BEYONCÉ, STEVIE NICKS, RIHANNA, LADY GAGA,

Congratulations!
How does it
feel not only
winning
a Grammy but
making history
as well?
Thank you
so much! I
am still on a
cloud from
last Sunday’s
historical
Grammy
win. I just
can’t believe
it! I was just
starting to feel
comfortable with
being nominated after
25 years in the business,
and then I won. It means
everything to me!
What first inspired you to become a
DJ/producer, and what still inspires
you to continue in such a challenging
industry?
As the saying goes, “Choose a job you
love, and you will never have to work a
day in your life.” I can’t imagine doing
anything else. Music is my life, and
there is no other thing I would rather
do. I am constantly inspired every day.
producers, who have been
overlooked for so long.
Can you recall the
most fun you’ve
ever had live?
I have so many
memories
behind the
booth, but
one that
stands out
in particular
is when
Cyndi Lauper
performed my
remix of “Shine”
live at a birthday
event for me many
years ago. It was
amazing!
Knowing what you know now, what
advice would you give to baby Tracy?
What is the best advice you’ve ever
gotten from your parents?
Honestly, I wouldn’t change a thing.
I’ve always followed the advice of my
parents, who encouraged me to feel
the fear and do it anyway, and ALWAYS
follow my dreams and passions. I think
it’s worked out so far.
Have you had your ultimate stage fantasy
yet? If so, where, and if not, what would
have to happen to make it so?
I have already been blessed with some
of the biggest stages and platforms in
my life, but my ultimate stage fantasy
would have to be Tomorrowland.
Were there any special challenges you
had in the industry, being a woman?
Despite being eligible in previous years,
the Best Remixed Recording - Non-
Classical category was just introduced
to the Recording Academy in 1998.
Now, in 2020, both the industry and my
peers are starting to see the hard work
that goes into this business, regardless
of gender. My hope is that my Grammy
win will create a dialogue in the
industry to recognize more female
If someone were to write
the soundtrack of your
life, what songs would be
on it and why?
That is a very tough
question, but I would
say that the soundtrack
of my life includes some
of my previous work,
which can be heard on
my YouTube or Spotify
channel. The playlist
would go like this:
· Genesis - Tracy Young
and Thaea
· What It Feels Like for
a Girl - Madonna (Tracy
Young Club Mix)
· Music - Madonna (The
Young Collective Club
Mix)
· Ferosh - Tracy Young
· Hung Up - Madonna
(Tracy Young’s Get Up
and Dance Groove)
· Stronger - Kelly
Clarkson (The Young
Collective Remix)
· Shine - Cyndi Lauper
(Tracy YoungMix)
· Peace, Love & Music -
Tracy Young
· Girls Night Out (Tracy
Young #Vegasvibe
Remix)
· I Rise - Madonna (Tracy
Young’s Pride Intro Radio
Remix)
· Crave - Madonna (Tracy
Young Dangerous Remix)
· In My Life - The Beatles
What’s new for Tracy
Young in 2020 and
beyond?
2020 is going to be
a promising year of
growth for me as a
producer with goals to
continue developing
original productions for
my own label, Ferosh
Records, and expand
my own discography
with inspired remixes for
other artists and labels.
My most recent remix
for Debbie Gibson called
“Girls Night Out” is out
now and making strides
in the U.S. Billboard
Dance Club Chart. Be
sure to check it out on

masculine and feminine, strong-willed
and mousy, promiscuous and married.
(The married couple, Jason and Jason,
were called “The Jasons,” which I
love.)
The Inheritance
I love predicting what’s going to happen
in books and movies.
The same goes for Broadway shows—
my most recent excursion being The
Inheritance at the Barrymore Theatre.
I didn’t know anything about it—truly
only knew that it was a Broadway
show—but my boyfriend wanted to see
it, so I bought us Friday tickets to Part
One (three hours, two intermissions)
and Saturday tickets to Part Two (three
hours, one intermission and a “brief
pause”), going in blind.
Characters began to wander on stage
as we were seated in the orchestra.
I leaned over to my boyfriend and
whispered, “Oh, he’s definitely gay.” My
boyfriend nodded his head, mumbling
“Uhm… yeah?” Turns out that (nearly)
every single character is a gay man—
something I’d have known with a simple
Google of the premise to the show I
bought tickets for.
Though most of the characters are considerably
middle class, I was happy to
see a diversity of characters within that
class—black and Hispanic and white,
The end of Act One ends with a speech
from an older character about watching
his friends die from AIDS—another
thing I would have known from reading
any synopsis of the play. “Oh… So this
is like a super gay play,” I said during
the first intermission.
“What did you think it was about?”
my boyfriend asked.
“I don’t know! Money?!”
With the knowledge that we were
already knee-deep in an emotional
play about the modern-day gay man
and the men that came before us
(inspired by E. M. Forster’s novel,
“Howards End”), I ordered a glass
of wine and buckled up.
By the end of Part One, I was sobbing.
To be fair, we all were: Tears sparkled
down the faces of everyone around me.
Part One ends with an audible breath
from character Eric Glass, a devastating
breath that sent chills down my spine
and (more) tears down my face—then a
cut to black.
Speaking of Eric Glass—when we first
sat down for Part One, we noticed an
insert in our Playbill announcing “THE
ROLE OF ERIC GLASS WILL BE PLAYED
BY SAM LILJA.” LIlja was a standout
star, playing a character that could be
interpreted as privileged and spoiled in
a way that was endearing and, above all
else, human. I was glad we returned for
Part Two that Saturday, and glad to see
Lilja both nights.
The Inheritance is a MUST SEE. I had the
feeling I was watching an important part
of gay theatre history, one to join the
likes of Rent and Angels in America—
not to mention, much as the modern
day gay man is able to be who they are
because of the generation before them,
this play is able to be on Broadway
because of the shows before it. If you
need someone to go with for emotional
support, I’ll see it again in a heartbeat.

UTOPIA FALLS
AN INTERVIEW WITH CAST MEMBERS
HUMBERLY GONZÁLEZ
AND DEVYN NEKODA
The highly anticipated futuristic
sci-fI/hip-hop series “Utopia
Falls” is set to launch on Hulu on
February 14, 2020. It’s a culturally
diverse, socially and politically
minded journey that unravels
hundreds of years in the future
in the last living colony known to
be on Earth after a catastrophic
event occurred called The Great
Flash, which destroyed the world’s
digital technology as candidates
prepare for and participate in
The Exemplar competition. The
theme of the series is reclaiming
knowledge of the past so you can
become leaders in the future, and
music is a catalyst for change.
The series, set in “New Babyl,”
follows Aliyah, an adventurous
teen who through her pursuit of
winning The Exemplar competition
learned hip-hop, an ancient,
unknown form of musical culture.
Her thrilling adventure of selfdiscovery
that will change the
world she knows forever begins
there. The series is reminiscent
of the “Hunger Games” meets
“Empire.”
Brooklyn, portrayed by Humberly
González, and Sage, played by
Devyn Nekoda, find themselves
romantically involved as they
also compete in the competition. I
exchanged questions and answers
with both talents regarding their
LGBTQ relationship in the midst of
a sci-fi series.
Actress:
HUMBERLY GONZÁLEZ
Character: Brooklyn
Was it challenging
developing a romantic
relationship with Sage?
Not at all! As an actor,
Devyn and I connected
from the beginning. We
were able to approach
the work with maturity
and care. We had open
communication and
always kept each other in
mind. For me, that’s the
perfect recipe for a great
relationship. Naturally,
that translated to camera
very easily. And although
we go through so many
motions in our on-screen
love, as soon as
they yelled “cut!”
we would hug
and laugh and cry
(maybe dance)
and be so proud
of each other for
putting our hearts
into Brooklyn and
Sage.
Do you feel
the romance
between
Brooklyn and
Sage added to
the futuristic series?
I want to believe that there
will come a time in our
world where homophobia
will cease to exist. I love
the fact that Brooklyn
and Sage can have a
relationship, no questions
asked. They are drawn to
each other because of who
they are as people, and
that’s the most important
thing. Maybe it’s a
futuristic way of thinking,
and if that’s the case, I love
the future.
How close are you in real
life to the character of
Brooklyn?
There are similarities, but
also MAJOR differences.
Brooklyn and I are
the same in the way
we go to bat for our
friends. Loyalty is a
priority. Brooklyn is
confident and sassy,
and yeah, I am too,
haha! However,
she’s got some walls
up and a chip on her
shoulder that gives
her a lot of attitude
and cockiness. I
don’t relate to that
as much. I’m a much
more open human
who isn’t scared of
vulnerability. Beautifully
enough, there’s a point in
the storyline where both
me and Brooklyn melded
together, and I learned
from her just like she
learned from me.
What attributes did you
like best about your
character?
She is a firecracker! Not
scared to have her voice
heard, and always has
a witty remark to share
with everyone, whether
they wanted to hear it or
not. I admire her growth
through the series. Just
when you think you got
her all figured out, boom,
changed.
From your point of view,
how do you feel hiphop,
lesbian romance
and a futuristic society
all fit together?
I’m going to be honest
here, at first glance it’s
really hard to make a
connection between
these ideas altogether.
The three are relevant in
the “Utopia Falls” world,
and also relevant in life
today. When it comes to
hip-hop, it’s the vehicle in
which the characters find
their voice and are able to
stand up for each other.
The romance between
Brooklyn and Sage is
so special, and I would
say Brooklyn is a fluid
lover—that’s her label
more than anything. She
loves people, and she goes
for who and what she
wants. In this case, that’s
Sage. It all takes
place in a futuristic
society in which the
history of the past
is non-existent,
therefore irrelevant
to the characters
who live in New
Babyl. In this world,
all these three
topics exist, and it is
simply possible and
exciting.
I feel like the
series is similar to
“Hunger Games”
meets “The
Handmaid’s Tale”
meets “So You
Think You Can
Dance.” What is
your take on that?
I always explained the
show as “Hunger Games”
meets “America’s Got
Talent,” so this isn’t too far
off. I love all the different
elements and ideas that
are implemented in the
show. I must admit, all my
favorite things!
Actress:
DEVYN NEKODA
Character: Sage
As a dancer, you were
probably prepared for
your character, but as
a woman in a futuristic
society, how did you
prepare for your role?
When I first looked at
the synopsis of “Utopia
Falls,” one thing really
stood out to me, and that
was the fact that in this
dystopian future there is
no preconceived notion. No
racism, classism or sexism,
etc. Everyone is on the
same level playing field, so
to prepare for a woman in
this futuristic society, I had
to change my mentality
and think of what our
world would realistically
look like if there was no
discrimination. It was a real
eye-opening experience
for me, and it helped me
bring my character Sage
to life.
How close is Devyn’s
personality to Sage’s?
I find there to be quite a
few similarities between
me and Sage. I quickly
realized how close we
were to each other on the
first day of shooting. Some
of the thoughts inside my
head were molded into
Sage’s thoughts.
We are both very gentle
towards the ones we love
but are extremely fierce
and protective towards
anyone who turns against
me or my friends and
family. Sage and I are very
serious about what we do
and will stop at nothing
to get it. Sage also takes
her dancing very seriously,
and I am extremely
passionate about dance.
I remember shooting a
scene and thinking to
myself that if I was in
that situation, I would
have reacted the exact
same way. I feel a lot for
Sage and what she goes
through, and as a result
was able to connect with
her very easily.
It’s very new and
different to have an
LGBT romance within a
sci-fI setting. What is
your own viewpoint on
that?
I think it’s amazing that
they’re exploring an LGBT
romance in this setting.
The relationship between
Sage and Brooklyn is a
really beautiful and raw
thing, and I can’t wait for
everyone to see it.
What is or was
your greatest
challenge
developing your
character?
My biggest
challenge
developing Sage
came with the
relationships within
the story, not only
the relationships
that Sage has with
other people, but
her relationship
with herself as well.
Throughout the season,
my character develops a
drastic amount. She goes
through challenges that
are very new to her, so
it was my job to really
try to understand what
it would be like from her
perspective.
Describe the essence of
your character.
Sage is a very kind and
thoughtful person; she
is an introvert, and
sometimes has a hard time
expressing how she feels.
One thing that I really
love about Sage though
is the fact that all of her
doubts go away when
she’s dancing. That’s when
she’s truly her happiest
and most like herself.
Throughout the season,
Sage’s essence changes a
lot after she goes through
some challenging times,
but she comes out of it
stronger than before, and I
really admired her for that.
I feel like that set must
have been a blast to
work on. Can you recall
one funny instance or
experience?
I had the best time
working with the cast and
crew. They’re like family to
me now. Every single day
with them was so much
fun, and they made the 13-
hour days seem to go by
in a minute. The funniest
experience I can remember
is the time when we were
filming outside in the
forest for a night shoot. It
had to be after midnight,
and Humberly, Phillip,
Mickeey and I decided
to watch a horror movie
in one of our trailers.
We were already pretty
spooked because of the
setting, but then all of a
sudden, we were hearing
weird noises and what
sounded like rocks being
thrown at our window. I
am the biggest scaredy
cat when it comes to this
stuff, so you can imagine
how much I was freaking
out. Turns out, Mickeey
told the wardrobe crew
what we were watching
and that he wanted to
prank us. So, whenever
they had time, they were
doing these little pranks
that I thought were an
actual ghost.

THE FIRST BLACK MAN TO WIN GAYVN FOR BEST ACTOR
Coined “The Oscars” of adult films, the GayVN Awards are film awards
presented to honor work done in the gay pornographic industry. This
year’s winner for best actor in Icon Male’s “Blended Family” was the
strikingly handsome DeAngelo Jackson, who happens to be the first

I spoke with DeAngelo and found him unbelievably candid, authentic
and kind. We had a conversation regarding his career and his hopes for
the future, as well as his desire to support the transgender community.
INTERVIEW
How did it feel
winning the
award? Were
you surprised?
I’m still kind of
getting used
to it. It was
really, really
surprising and
very humbling to
me to win that
category. It’s
something else
really!
They consider
those awards
like The Oscars
of the adult
film industry.
Have you ever
thought of going
into mainstream
acting?
Absolutely. It’s
something that
I’ve really been
thinking about this
last year. Eventually
I’d like to cross over to
mainstream acting if I
can. With a background
as lively as I have, it’s
going to be difficult, but
I really and truly believe
that it’s possible for
me to cross over. Best
actor… I was extremely
happy, and I would like
to take it further in the
future.
When did you start
doing adult films and
why?
My first year in porn was
in 2008. I was a broke
college student, and
essentially it was easy
money. I was successful
at it, I thought it was
interesting and I kept
at it all these years.
This year has been my
most successful year,
so it took a lot of years
for me to finally break
through and cross over.
Do you have fun with it,
or is it just a job?
I still have fun with it. I
don’t think I would’ve
been doing it this long
if I didn’t take some
enjoyment in it at all. I
still do very much enjoy
it.
So I’m a size queen, so
I have to ask you this:
Do you think it was the
size of your penis that
originally got you the
job and has made you so
successful?
You know, it definitely
wasn’t the size of
my penis. For me, I’m

just above average,
so I wouldn’t say so. I
wouldn’t say my penis
size played a role in me
having longevity. I think
it’s mostly my body and
my personality.
You do have a great
personality, and a great
body. How often do you
go to the gym?
Five days a week, for
two hours consistently,
for 13 years now. But
it is something I do
for myself. It’s not
something that I’ve got
to do to really please
anyone else. So for me
it’s about my body. It’s
like a plus, plus for me.
I can make money off
of it, and it’s something
I have a passion for,
which is working out.

You are also the first
black person to win this
award. What is your
point of view on that?
It makes it so awesome.
I feel like Halle Berry or
Denzel Washington or
Sidney Poitier on the
stage. It’s gay porn,
but it’s still breaking
down a barrier. Still,
being the first, it felt
awesome. I really hope
that by me opening up
this door it shows other
companies we are more
than a fetish, and we
have more to offer than
just to be fetishized or
looked at as just BBCs or
just a play thing, so to
speak. There is more to
bring to the table than
just that, I really hope.
You have a perfect voice
for mainstream acting
as I’m listening to you
speak. Did you ever have
to do a scene that you
didn’t want, to deal with
a partner that you didn’t
want to do it with?
Oh God, yes. When
I first started off, of
course I was relegated
to the old thug boy, the
“ebony.” We still have
that within the industry.
Not so much the thug,
but we still have the
BBC, unfortunately.
That is something I
really want to move
away from. I never
wanted to be typecast
as a thug or a BBC, the
sexy, cute black guy. I
never wanted to have
my race be put in the
forefront of anything. I
was in a couple of DVDs
and movies with the title
of “Thug ‘Whatever,’”
but thankfully I’ve been
able to move beyond
that and also to a larger
audience. It’s been an
uphill struggle.

Personally, I think the
award is prestigious. I
think that it’s so cool
that you won that
award. I’m curious to
know what kind of life
you live outside of the
filming world. Do you
have a partner?
My life is so boring. It
really is, because what I
do for a living is so
hectic: the traveling,
the filming. It’s very
tiresome. When I
come back home
I like to recharge.
I’m a homebody.
I’m kind of like a
hermit when I’m
home. If I’m not in
the gym I’m here in
my house relaxing,
regrouping and
just really trying to
get ready for the
next event or the
next scene. I have
no partner. I think
for me it would be
difficult to have a
partner because
of what I do for a
living. I don’t think
it would be fair
towards him. It
would be like a onesided
open relationship
as far as I’m concerned. I
don’t think it’s fair, and I
don’t think that it would
end well. Eventually
I would like to have a
partner, but now I’m just
really focused on my
career. I’m trying to stay
focused.
Is there anything else
you would like to tell me
that we haven’t talked
about?
I have my calendar.
It’s all 12 months just
of me. I’ve been in
calendars before, but
I’ve always just had one
month. So I finally have
a calendar just of me
that was released late
last year, but what I’m
really excited about is a
chunk of the proceeds
are going towards a
beautiful cause. It’s
called “Beauty With
a Cause,” and it’s to
help the transgender
community. It’s a
community that is really
ignored, especially
within the black
community. Black
transgender [people] are
being murdered, they
are homeless, and it
just goes on and on. It’s
something that I really
take personally, because
my ex is transgender
now. She’s transitioned
into a female, so for me
it’s personal and it’s
something that is really
close to my heart. It’s
something that really
excites me to turn over
the proceeds [to] that
cause, to pull in the
transgender [people]
and help them, to guide
them and to give them
that support that is
severely lacking in the
LGBTQIA community.
