Digital Alloys takes new chief technology officer on board<br />

Digital Alloys, provider of metal additive<br />

manufacturing, has announced the addition<br />

of Carl Calabria as its chief technology<br />

officer.<br />

Carl Calabria is a veteran of the additive<br />

manufacturing industry. He joins Digital<br />

Alloys from Formlabs, provider of plastic<br />

3D printers, where he was head of engineering.<br />

At Digital Alloys Calabria will have<br />

overall responsibility for both research and<br />

engineering. His move will speed the<br />

release of Digital Alloys’ Joule Printing<br />

metal additive manufacturing technology,<br />

which delivers metal printing solutions<br />

that have the speed, cost and quality<br />

needed for volume manufacturing of larger<br />

parts.<br />

ESTAD appoints chairman of scientific advisory board<br />

Göran Carlsson has been named chairman<br />

of the scientific advisory board in<br />

the run-up to the 5th ESTAD Conference<br />

staged in Stockholm on from 14 to 18<br />

June 2021.<br />

Göran Carlsson has worked in the steel<br />

industry and with R&D for most of his<br />

career. His latest position was that of<br />

CEO of the new steel research institute<br />

SWERIM, a merger of MEFOS and<br />

Swerea KIMAB. He worked for SSAB<br />

for many years during a time where he<br />

also was associated professor in process<br />

metallurgy at Luleå Technical University.<br />

The ESTAD (European Steel Technology<br />

Application Days) conference has<br />

become established as an important<br />

meeting place for steel producers, steel<br />

users, plant suppliers, research institutes,<br />

as well as universities. In 2021,<br />

the conference will be hosted by Jernkontoret.<br />

New CEO at Steeltec<br />

Effective January 1, <strong>2020</strong>, Dr. Florian Geiger<br />

took over as the new CEO of bright<br />

steel producer Steeltec, a company of<br />

the Schmolz + Bickenbach Group.<br />

Florian Geiger succeeds Gerd Münch as<br />

CEO, who decided to step down from his<br />

role on December 31, 2<strong>01</strong>9. Gerd Münch<br />

spent a total of 28 years with the company,<br />

including 14 years as chief executive<br />

officer. Florian Geiger joined Schmolz +<br />

Bickenbach in 2<strong>01</strong>3 as vice president for<br />

business development, with responsibility<br />

for enterprise-wide strategic projects and<br />

for mergers and acquisitions. Among other<br />

achievements, he led the negotiations<br />

for the creation of a joint venture in China<br />

and for the acquisition of Ascometal in<br />

France.<br />

Tata Steel in Europe names new chief commercial officer<br />

Karl Haider has taken up the role of chief<br />

commercial officer for Tata Steel in<br />

Europe. He succeeds Henrik Adam who<br />

became CEO of Tata Steel in Europe in<br />

June 2<strong>01</strong>9.<br />

Haider joined Tata Steel in Europe in 2<strong>01</strong>1<br />

as director Downstream Operations. He<br />

began his career in the steel industry as an<br />

apprentice at voestalpine in 1981. Eventual<br />

he was a member of the executive board<br />

of the High Performance Metals division<br />

of voestalpine.<br />

thyssenkrupp Schulte reorganizes management board<br />

Effective January 1, <strong>2020</strong>, Detlef Schotten<br />

became chairman of the board of management<br />

of thyssenkrupp Schulte. As of the<br />

same date, Dr. Tobias Hegmanns joined<br />

the company as chief operating officer.<br />

Detlef Schotten succeeds Martin Stillger<br />

who has been appointed chairman<br />

of the executive board of thyssenkrupp<br />

Materials Services. In addition, Detlef<br />

Schotten has taken over responsibility<br />

for the Western Europe operating unit<br />

from Stillger. Schotten has more than<br />

25 years of experience in various management<br />

and executive functions at<br />

thyssenkrupp.<br />
