Around the City
JOSEPH TRINKLE
Joe Trinkle (affectionately known to his colleagues as
JoJo) has the monumental job of handling all daily sports
field usage permit requests for our Parks & Recreation
Department. As the Head Recreation Leader for Athletics,
he also oversees all adult athletic leagues and programs,
including basketball, volleyball, Pickleball, football and corn
hole.
Originally from New York (both Pooghkeepsie and the
Bronx), JoJo ultimately completed his educational degree
in Florida, receiving a Bachelor’s degree in Business
Supervision and Management from Daytona State College.
JoJo has two great passions in life: his three children and
his love for sports and fitness. His position in athletics
for the City of Palm Coast indeed reinforces both of these
commitments, leaving time for him to nurture his loves for
both.
Three Fun Facts about JoJo:
1. He advocates for his youngest child, a son who suffered a
BPI injury at birth.
2. He has been a basketball player since he was 5 years old. He
played for varsity beginning in the ninth grade, received All-
State honors and was recruited to play for many colleges.
3. He is the third of four siblings.
HEATHER PRIESTAP
As Animal Control Officer for the City, Heather Priestap
and her division colleagues work extremely hard every day
to ensure the safety of our pets. ”It’s so important that our
community knows that our goal is to educate residents on
how to improve their pet/owner relationship. Animal welfare
is why we are here for residents. We want to educate them –
we DO NOT want to take pets away.”
Heather handles everything from Animal Licensing to
Animal Cruelty cases. She is involved with injured animals
found on the streets and she helps teach people how to
best care for their loving pets. She began working for Palm
Coast in 2002, working as a receptionist at the front desk
of our first City Hall – the library. She eventually moved to
Human Resources and finally landed in her current Code
Enforcement Department in 2006. She holds an Associate’s
degree in Criminal Justice and a Bachelor’s degree in Public
Administration from Flagler College. She is also a certified
Animal Control Officer.
Three Fun Facts about Heather:
1. She loves her family.
2. She also loves taking photos. Her subjects are often
family and friends, especially those who can’t afford to hire
someone.
3. She likes to work on crafty things with her sister
and friends. She’s started making hand-knitted
blankets which she plans to donate to local charities.

Tennis Star Reilly Opelka
headlining sponsor FOR
PALM COAST — Tennis star Reilly Opelka is used to
stepping up in a big way.
He’s a New York Open and Junior Wimbledon
Champion, after all.
But this week, Opelka is stepping up to give back to
the community he called home as a teenager.
Opelka himself will be the headlining sponsor of
the Palm Coast Open: A USTA Pro Circuit Event. The
tournament will be held Feb. 3 - 9 at the Palm Coast
Tennis Center, where Opelka spent time honing his
skills before joining the USTA Player Development
program in Boca Raton.
Now standing 6 feet 11 inches, Opelka, 22, has
developed a masterful serve that netted him over
1,000 aces in 2019 and he continues to expand his
versatile skillset.
He soared to No. 38 worldwide in the Association of
Tennis Professionals (ATP) and just took part in the
Australian Open, a Grand Slam tournament, this past
weekend. In 2019 alone, he racked up four wins over
top 10 opponents — three against fellow American
star John Isner.
Even with this meteoric rise, he hasn’t forgotten the
city where he grew up, that his parents, George and
Lynne, still call home.
Opelka was awarded the Mayor’s Next Generation
Award in 2019 by Palm Coast Mayor Milissa Holland,
as a role model for what Palm Coast’s youth are
capable of achieving. His father accepted the award
on his behalf.
“We weren’t aware of the rich tennis tradition in Palm
Coast when my career took the family here 18 years
ago,” George Opelka said. “The history, Tom Gullikson
and the Palm Coast lifestyle provided Reilly with a
tremendous pathway to opportunity. With that said,
Reilly is thrilled to give back and sponsor the Palm
Coast Open, an international tournament that has
been a stopping point for several players currently

ranked in the Top 100 in the world. Come see for
yourself!”
“We are so proud of all that Reilly has accomplished,
on and off the court,” Mayor Holland said. “What he
has given back to this city shows his strong character
and inspires the next generation of Palm Coast to be
great. We are so grateful to have him.”
“The Palm Coast Open is one of my favorite events,
and I’m excited to see more community involvement
and partnerships this year,” Mayor Holland said.
“Events like this showcase our amenities, help bring
our community together and raise our quality of life.”
Palm Coast Open Info
The Palm Coast Open: A USTA Pro Circuit Event
will be held February 3 - 9 at the Palm Coast Tennis
Center. The tournament will be showcasing some of
the finest up-and-coming tennis players in the world!
The Palm Coast Open will host: 32-Qualifying Draw,
32-Main Draw Singles, 16-Main Draw Doubles. The
total prize pool is $25,000.
Schedule
February 3rd 6pm-8pm Pro-Am and Players Party
Watch tennis pros and amateurs compete in the Pro-Am.
Minimum donation $50 to compete in match. Donations
are suggested for spectators and Food will be available
for purchase.
February 6th 4pm-7pm Plated Palm Coast
Enjoy a night of neighborly bites featuring small plates
from participating Palm Coast restaurants. This event
is hosted by Palm Coast Observer. Ticket prices range
between $20-$40.
February 8th 9:30am-11am Net Generation Kids Day
Free tennis clinics and other interactive activities for
children of all ages and skill levels. Pre-registration is
required.
February 9th 10am-1pm Sunday Finals Brunch
Enjoy brunch and mimosas for $10/person while
watching the exciting finals matches. Final matches are
scheduled to start at 11am. Pre-registration is required.

your own form of exercise. Log in

month. Everyone who completes
the Challenge will receive a prize.

miles in 90 days,” said Palm Coast
Mayor Milissa Holland. “That’s
an average of one mile per day.
Whether it’s walking, bicycling,
tennis, running or another exercise,
You’ve resolved to get into shape for
the New Year, but how do you get
started?! Take the first step toward
better health with the Mayor’s
90/90 Challenge, which is kicking

the important thing is to find an
activity you enjoy and make it a
daily habit.”
“Those small steps, taken day after
day, add up to an active lifestyle,”
Mayor Holland said.
The new Mayor’s 90/90 Challenge
will start Jan. 6 and continue
through April 4. Anyone who lives,
works, shops, plays or exercises in
Palm Coast is welcome to join in
the fun. The Challenge is open to all
ages, and families are encouraged
to participate together!
Participants can choose their
own form of exercise – and will
log their success on Palm Coast
Connect via the website at www.
palmcoastconnect.com or the app
via Google play store or Apple app
store.Progress will be self-reported
throughout the 90 days. It’s free to
sign up and participate!
Participants who want a more
structured program can choose
from any of Palm Coast Parks &
Recreation’s winter/spring fitness
programs – everything from line
dancing and tennis clinics to
Zumba® Gold and yoga.
Everyone who completes the
Mayor’s 90/90 Challenge will
receive a prize during the City
Council Meeting on April 7. Share
your progress on Instagram using
the hashtags #Mayors9090 and
#connecttofitness.

motivation toward your New Year’s
goals,” Holland said. “You’ll see your

progress, and we’ll encourage you
