Cambridge Film Festival
Since 1977, the annual Cambridge Film Festival (CFF) has played
a vital role in the city’s thriving cultural programme and the
UK festival calendar, bringing together over 11,000 residents,
visitors and international artists in a celebration of cinema.
Presented by the Cambridge Film Trust
charity, the Festival is firmly established
as one of the largest cultural events in the
East of England. Each year, the Festival
welcomes filmmakers from around the
world, presents UK premieres, screens
major UK and American titles – often many
months before their theatrical releases – and
showcases the very best films from across
the globe including award-winning features
from major international festivals, such as
Cannes’ Palme d’Or.
The Festival is widely renowned for delivering
an exciting and innovative range of films
and events, as well as playing host to a starstudded
collection of filmmakers and actors,
from Mark Cousins, Tilda Swinton, Paddy
Considine, and Brian Helgeland to John Hurt,
Ken Loach, Wim Wenders, Cate Blanchett
and Mike Leigh. As well as screening major
independent films, the Festival is also a
showcase for emerging filmmakers.
The main Festival venue is the Arts
Picturehouse, a three-screen cinema
in the heart of the city. Screenings are
complemented by presentations in a variety
of historic and unusual venues in and around
Cambridge – from a large scale outdoor
screening event on the famed Grantchester
Meadows, to a range of films with live music
at historic University colleges.
