What are the Different Types of Portable Mixing Stations?

When it comes to construction, mixing components in order to form concrete is extremely

essential. It is required for everything from leveling floors, building to plastering. For this very

reason, mixing stations are an important construction tool.

With changing times, portable mixing stations have been invented for medium and small jobs.

These are usually called batch mixers and are available in various types which are mentioned

below.

1. Drum Mixer

Drum mixers usually consist of a conical or frustum shaped drum. These are used to mix

and discharge concrete mixture using either a single blade or multiple blades. Moreover,

these come in three varieties namely tilting drum mixers, non-tilting drum mixers and

reversing drum mixers. Tilting drum mixers can be tilted at angles for easy use and are

usually closed from one end. On the other hand, both non-tilting and reversing varieties

are open from both ends with chutes to collect the prepared mixture. While non-tilting

mixers are used for small construction sites, reversing ones are used to prepare dry mix

concrete.

2. Pan Mixer

Instead of a drum, pan mixers are mixing stations that consist of a cylindrical pan.

However, just like drum mixers these also have blades for mixing. Although, these are

usually star shaped for maximum efficiency. Additionally, pan mixers also have scrapers

to prevent mortar from sticking to the bottom of the cylindrical structure. Some pan

mixers have rotating blades and a stationary pan while others have a rotating pan and

stationary blades. The mixture produced is lean and stiff and it is generally collected

using an opening at the bottom of the pan.
