Fremont International Academy reopened
in 2019 as a new, academically rigorous
elementary magnet school with a learning
experience based on the International
Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme.
After four years of implementation, Fremont
earned its official IB designation in the
spring of 2023!
At Fremont, we see our students as
internationally-minded critical thinkers.
Every student learns how to ask questions,
embrace challenges and empathize with
others through a cutting-edge learning
experience that includes foreign language
instruction and a world culture focus. A
Fremont education prepares students to be
open-minded, reflective lifelong thinkers
who positively impact the world.
WHAT IS IB?
Fremont International Academy is now officially
an International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary
Years Programme school. The IB Primary Years
Programme (PYP) nurtures and develops young
students as caring, active participants in a lifelong
journey of learning.
IB Schools enable students to direct their own
learning pathways and develop the skills and
confidence they need to thrive and make a lasting
difference in their community and the world. IB
students develop strong academic, social and
emotional characteristics that help prepare
them to succeed academically, become more
culturally aware, and engage with people in an
increasingly globalized, rapidly changing world.

The learning experience at Fremont
International Academy features:
• All four core subjects with instruction
in English (Math, Science, English
Language Arts and Social Studies)
• Teacher-created units to develop
students’ inquiry skills
• Spanish language instruction, for all
students, beginning in kindergarten
• Other key classes like Art and
Physical Education
• Exploration of world cultures
• Character building through
collaboration

All Fremont students
receive dedicated
Spanish language
instruction time each
week, weaving
language skills into
their educational
experience.
Instruction in a second
language is a core tenet of the
International Baccalaureate
Primary Years Programme
educational model — studies
have shown that in addition
to the practical benefits of
bilingual fluency, speaking
more than one language can
also improve critical thinking
and listening skills.
At BCPS, we aim to develop
well-rounded students who are
globally-minded and ready
to succeed in today’s world.
Language skills are a key part of
that vision.
With the City of Battle Creek’s
large Hispanic population,
Spanish is the perfect language
to start with for our students
to connect with both our local
community and the rest of the
Spanish-speaking world.

5th graders
earned their
high school
Spanish I credit
in 2023!

AND SERVICES
Fremont International Academy was designed to feature a
learning environment where students can flourish and develop
the inquiry, problem-solving, critical thinking and communication
skills that will prepare them to take on the world! Student success is
bolstered at Fremont through a number of supportive partnerships,
programs and services. We call it the Bearcat Advantage:
• Operation Fit programs
that increase physical
activity, improve nutrition
and create healthy habits .

curriculum and support
• Integrated technology that
helps build early computer
literacy skills.
• Before and after school care.
• Communities in Schools
Site Coordinator on-site
to connect students with
community resources like
Reading Buddies.

opportunities through
community partnerships.
COMMON DRESS GUIDELINES
In order to create a sense of community among our Fremont
students while maintaining a focus on learning, all students
adhere to a set of common dress guidelines that were
developed in conjunction with parents.
