Spring Season 2020

1

Welcome to the start of our 20th year!

The Bridge House Theatre has clocked up 20 years

in no time and audiences have enjoyed an ever

broadening range of exceptional performances from

professionals, schools and community. It has built an

enviable reputation in that time as an intimate and

beautiful space in which to perform. This anniversary

year will continue to see us celebrating the best in

Theatre, Music, Dance, Comedy and Film. Look out

for special anniversary events later in the year and

those as part of our 2020 Arts Festival.

In January we welcome back two of our favourite

Australian companies as they return to tour the UK

and Europe. Midnite Theatre Company from Perth

are bringing us Where in the World is Frank Sparrow

mixing a tough urban environment with a mythical

underworld. In February BYTE from Melbourne, in

The Deep Freeze, explore challenging contemporary

issues.

Also returning to us in February, Morgan and West’s

Unbelievable Science will bring their wit and charm

to the world of explosive science in this wonderful,

mind-blowing family show. Later that month sees the

return of full-mask company VAMOS. We are thrilled

they are bringing their brand new show Dead Good

to Warwick, a play which is both funny and poignant

in its depiction of two lives coming to an end.

Expect playful and moving work from these brilliant

performers of wordless theatre.

The King’s High Dance Evening in February

promises a brilliant night showcasing the breadth

of dance styles taught in the Foundation. The

hugely popular Jazz at the Bridge returns again

and the season has an ever developing programme

of wonderful music events for everyone to enjoy,

celebrating the best in young musicianship across

the Foundation. Do keep an in contact for further

details and other music events.

For fans of musical theatre we are thrilled to have

been given the rights to produce Mary Poppins Jnr

with our Middle School students (years 9 and 10).

Based on one of the most popular Disney movies

of all time and the Broadway hit that played for

over 2,500 performances, it’s a ‘practically perfect’

musical. Don’t miss this enchanting mixture of

irresistible story, unforgettable songs and breathtaking

dance numbers in early March.

One of last year’s big highlights was The Noise Next

Door. They are back the same month with another

new improvised show in Charge in which the people

of Warwick will be in control in new and exciting

ways. Always expect the unexpected with these

boys!

I, Elizabeth performed by Rebecca Vaughan

(Dyad Productions) will no doubt be a spellbinding

account of the young monarch in another

masterclass of solo performance. Don’t miss this

popular production.

Of course this is a busy season for dance, curriculum

drama and visitors from the community. GCSE, A

Level drama students will be performing once again

in the Spring and Aylesford School will be back

again with their main production in January.

Do keep an eye on the website as additional events

are sometimes booked that don’t feature in this

brochure. We hope you’ll agree that this is a special

season of theatre dance and music, worthy of an

anniversary celebration and we look forward to

seeing you here soon! Remember there will be even

more in the Summer!

THEATRE

Vamos Theatre, in a co-production with Corn

Exchange Newbury and a co-commission with

London International Mime Festival, presents

Dead Good

Let’s start...at the end.

Bob and Bernard have only two things in common:

they’re both dying…and they’re not going down

without a fight.

So, with a bottle of Bollinger and the keys to

Bernard’s Bentley in hand, they decide to hit

the road, and take on one final, death-defying

adventure.

But when time really does start to run out, can

Bob and Bernard accept the inevitable? Can their

growing friendship make the difference? And by

seeing the end in sight, can they truly value living?

Funny and poignant in equal measure, Dead Good is

the hotly anticipated new production from full mask

maestros, Vamos Theatre. Created in collaboration

with palliative care patients and specialists, it’s a

gloriously witty, wordless theatre show about the

ultimate shared experience.

MUSIC

Twin ticket productions present

Songs for a New World

Songs for a New World takes us to those moments in life where everything can change, and every one of its

characters is forced to make a decision with no idea how their lives might look afterwards.

Jason Robert Brown’s score unifies elements of pop, gospel, and jazz, in this song cycle that is “about one

moment. It’s about hitting the wall and having to make a choice, or take a stand, or turn around and go back.”

A young woman discovers she’s pregnant; lovers reconnect after taking time to find themselves; and a

mother who, faced with losing her husband and son, feels there is nothing she can do to help - she resolves

to make flags in the hope that her loved ones are dying for something worthwhile.

Brown sends us back to 1492 with On the Deck of a Spanish Sailing Ship, while Just One Step takes place 57

floors above Manhattan traffic! “There is no specific location other than the natural ambiguity of the human

heart and mind.”

The Warwick School and King’s High School Production of

Warwick School and King’s High School are proud

to be presenting one of the World’s favourite shows

based on one of the most popular Disney movies

of all time and the Broadway musical that played

for over 2,500 performances and received multiple

Olivier and Tony Awards nominations. In short its a

‘practically perfect’ musical.

The jack-of-all trades, Bert, introduces us to England

in 1910 and the troubled Banks family. Young Jane

and Michael have sent many a nanny packing before

Mary Poppins arrives on their doorstep. Using a

combination of magic and common sense, she must

teach the family members how to value each other

again. Mary Poppins takes the children on many

magical and memorable adventures, but Jane and

Michael aren’t the only ones upon whom she has a

profound effect. Even grown-ups can learn a lesson

or two from the nanny who advises that “Anything

can happen if you let it.”

Disney and Cameron Mackintosh’s Mary Poppins

JR. is an enchanting mixture of irresistible story,

unforgettable songs and breath-taking dance

numbers. Featuring some of the best performers

in years 9 and 10 and musically directed by Sam

Young this show promises to build on the energy and
