ELIGIBILITY<br />

Any current 9th, 10th or 11th grade students in an Adams 12 Five Star Schools’ high school,<br />

charter school, or alternative high school may apply to attend <strong>FutureForward</strong> at Bollman or<br />

Washington Square in their 10th, 11th or 12th grade year.<br />

COST<br />

There are no tuition costs. However, some classes require a small fee and/or specialized materials.<br />

TRANSPORTATION<br />

Free district transportation is provided to and from the Bollman and/or Washington Square<br />

campuses for Horizon, Legacy, Northglenn, Thornton, Mountain Range, and Vantage Point High<br />

School students for most class periods.<br />

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS<br />

All <strong>FutureForward</strong> at Bollman and Washington Square courses fulfill the district Fine/Practical Arts<br />

and/or Elective graduation requirements.<br />

COLLEGE CREDITS AVAILABLE<br />

Concurrent Enrollment and Articulation Agreements with community colleges, 4-year colleges,<br />

and private post-secondary institutions allow students the opportunity to earn college credits<br />

in most <strong>FutureForward</strong> programs. For more information about college credits, please contact a<br />

CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY<br />

CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION 1 & 2<br />

Why did they do it? How did the perpetrator commit the crime?<br />

Students will study crime and look at the possible explanations<br />

of crime from a biological, psychological, and sociological<br />

perspective. This course will also concentrate on forensics, crime<br />

scene, and investigative techniques. Students will also have the<br />

opportunity to have authentic experiences with local police<br />

agencies. In addition, the course will also cover physical evidence<br />

in the areas of pathology, toxicology, anthropology and tool<br />

marks, and criminalistics.<br />

LAW ENFORCEMENT 1 & 2<br />

Do you dream of working as a police officer, investigator, prosecutor,<br />

defense attorney, or a victim advocate? Do you like helping your<br />

community be safe? A career in law enforcement can be exciting<br />

and rewarding. Students will learn about law enforcement-related<br />

professions through practical, industry-related experiences. These<br />

will include providing exposure to defensive tactics, statues, police<br />

procedures, courtroom procedures, and verbal de escalation so<br />

they can have a competitive advantage in their chosen field.<br />

The curriculum will provide the most authentic, industry standard<br />

experience that is hands on. Students will have the opportunity<br />

to have authentic experiences with local police agencies.<br />

HUMAN SERVICES<br />

INTRODUCTION TO BEHAVIORAL AND<br />

MENTAL HEALTH CARE 1 & 2<br />

This program is designed for students who are interested in<br />

pursuing careers in the behavioral/mental health fields. Some<br />

areas of study include exploration of behavioral health pathways,<br />

therapeutic communication and motivational interviewing<br />

techniques, building therapeutic relationships, and common<br />

behavioral and mental health disorders and spectra.<br />

EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN – EMT 1 & 2<br />

This course emphasizes character building, strength, honesty,<br />

integrity, excellence, leadership, dedication, and service. Course<br />

topics include medical terminology, pathophysiology, career<br />

exploration, safety practices, ethics, and human relations. All are<br />

delivered through classroom, laboratory, and simulated clinical<br />

situations. This program provides the foundation for professional<br />

opportunities in the emergency medical field.<br />

FIREFIGHTING 1 & 2<br />

Do you like the adrenaline rush ... the heat and smoke ...<br />

kicking in the door, actually “fighting” the fire. A Firefighter is<br />

an important figure within the public health and safety industry.<br />

Firefighters combat and extinguish fires, often working in<br />

high-pressure circumstances. Students will learn hands on,<br />

practical skills in firefighter orientation, safety, fire behavior,<br />

building construction, Firefighter personal protective equipment,<br />

fire streams, fire control, fire detection, alarm and suppression<br />

systems, loss control, and communications. Students will also<br />

have the opportunity to obtain both their CPR and HAZMAT<br />

certifications in the Firefighting I program.<br />

HEALTH SCIENCE<br />

This program is designed for students who are interested in<br />

pursuing careers in the health care field. This course is also<br />

recommended for students who plan to apply for Medical<br />

Sciences CNA or EMT in their senior year. Some areas of study<br />

include: CP anatomy and physiology, medical terminology,<br />

and ethics.<br />

Have you ever wanted to customize your car? Or upgrade the<br />

paint? Students enrolled in the Auto Collision Repair program<br />

will learn to assess the damage, remove and install parts, straighten<br />

bent frames, remove dents, replace sections, and paint the<br />

car body. Auto Collision Repair Technicians find their skills<br />

increasingly valued as more vehicles fill the roads and a greater<br />

number of traffic accidents damage these vehicles. Students<br />

will have the opportunity to obtain an industry relevant I-CAR<br />

certification.<br />

Are you considering a career as an electrician? HVAC technician<br />

or plumber? Students will learn practical applications of electrical<br />

theory and techniques used by licensed electricians, exploration<br />

of OSHA’s electrical safety-related work practices, and how they<br />

are applied to the work environment. Students will also gain<br />

advanced knowledge and skills needed to enter the industry as<br />

HVAC and refrigeration technicians or building maintenance<br />

technicians or supervisors. Students will gain the advanced<br />

knowledge and skills needed to enter the industry as a plumber,<br />

building maintenance technician, or supervisor or prepare for a<br />

post-secondary degree in mechanical engineering.<br />

CONSTRUCTION, MECHANICAL, ELECTRICAL,<br />

AND PLUMBING INTERNSHIP<br />

This course is designed to prepare students to enter the<br />

workforce through on-the-job training in the form of an internship<br />

combined with class instruction. Training in class will continue<br />

with release time for the internship as coordinated by the<br />

instructor. Students will have the opportunity to learn their skills<br />

in supervised practical experience on the job.<br />

ASE/NATEF Certified <strong>Program</strong>. Gain knowledge of engine<br />

performance, electronic diagnostics, light maintenance, brakes,<br />

tires, cooling systems, chassis, drivetrains, fuel systems, steering,<br />

suspension, and electrical systems. Opportunity to obtain student<br />

ASE certifications.<br />

AUTOMOTIVE TECHNOLOGY 3 & 4<br />

ASE/NATEF Certified <strong>Program</strong>. Designed to provide knowledge<br />

of engine performance, advance charging systems, advanced<br />

brakes, alignments, suspension, electrical system diagnostics,<br />

engine rebuilding, and emissions testing. Opportunity to obtain<br />

student ASE certifications. Students will have the opportunity to<br />

enroll in the AYES program.<br />

PRINCIPLES OF CONSTRUCTION, MECHANICAL,<br />

ELECTRICAL, AND PLUMBING 1 & 2<br />

Have you ever wanted to build a house? You will learn entry-level<br />

skills in construction, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC. Students<br />

will also learn safety procedures and use a wide variety of tools<br />

to perform basic operations. Students will be able to perform<br />

basic operations with plastic piping, including measuring, cutting,<br />

and joining pipe. Furthermore, students will be able to apply<br />

mathematics concepts to solve HVAC, electrical, and plumbing<br />

problems. Students will earn the PACT HBI core certificate along<br />

with OSHA 10 Safety.<br />

DIESEL AUTOMOTIVE TECHNOLOGY I & 2<br />

GRADES CREDITS MEETS LOCATION<br />

10, 11, 12 2.0 2 periods a day Washington Square<br />

ASE-Certified <strong>Program</strong>. Students will be working on various<br />

diesel vehicles with real-world problems to diagnose/repair and<br />

to gain hands-on experience. All courses follow ASE standards.<br />

Opportunity to obtain Student ASE certifications and complete<br />

a job shadow experience in the diesel industry.<br />

DIESEL AUTOMOTIVE TECHNOLOGY 3 & 4<br />

ASE-Certified <strong>Program</strong>. Areas of training include advanced<br />

transmission and engine rebuilding, advanced computer diagnostic,<br />

advanced electrical diagnostic and diesel engine performance.<br />

Students will have the opportunity to obtain the student ASE<br />

certifications and complete a job shadow experience in the<br />

diesel industry.


CYBERSECURITY<br />

In this course, students will gain hands-on experience securing<br />

vulnerabilities in Windows Server, Windows, and Linux.<br />

Exploration of cybersecurity topics such as law, politics, terrorism,<br />

ethics, and artificial intelligence.<br />

The Welding Technology program provides training in welding<br />

safety, oxyacetylene welding and cutting, plasma arc cutting,<br />

brazing, soldering, stick welding (SMAW), and MIG welding<br />

(GMAW). Students learn to read blueprints and sketches,<br />

basic fabrication skills, and the safe use of shop tools.<br />

WELDING TECHNOLOGY 3 & 4<br />

Receive advanced training in welding safety, oxyacetylene<br />

welding/cutting, plasma arc cutting, carbon arc cutting, exothermic<br />

cutting, stick welding (SMAW), flux-core arc welding (FCAW),<br />

MIG welding (GMAW), and TIG welding (GTAW). Students will<br />

have the opportunity to obtain an American Welding Society<br />

(AWS) certification.<br />

Students will learn the fundamentals of programing (Javabased).<br />

Students will write programs that will draw pictures,<br />

run animations, create basic algorithms, simulate basic 2D<br />

games/applications, and learn language for expressing<br />

computations.<br />

A.P. COMPUTER SCIENCE A<br />

AP Computer Science A is an introductory college-level computer<br />

science course. Students cultivate their understanding of coding<br />

through analyzing, writing, and testing code as they explore<br />

concepts like modularity, variables, and control structures. The<br />

course emphasizes object-oriented programming and design<br />

using the Java programming language.<br />

In this course, students will extend their knowledge of Computer<br />

Science and/or Cybersecurity. Students will work on one or more<br />

projects to gain theoretical knowledge and practical experience<br />

in project management. Students will utilize Agile Scrum and<br />

teamwork to complete solutions to a real-world problem.<br />

PRINCIPLES OF ENGINEERING - PLTW ®<br />

Students will learn mechanisms, hydraulics, pneumatics, computer<br />

interfacing, robotics, computer-aided design, electronics, energy,<br />

statics, materials, and kinematics. This course exposes students to<br />

major concepts they’ll encounter in a post-secondary engineering<br />

course.<br />

AEROSPACE ENGINEERING - PLTW ®<br />

Students will explore the evolution of flight, navigation and control,<br />

flight fundamentals, aerospace materials, propulsion, space travel,<br />

and orbital mechanics. This course presents alternative applications<br />

for aerospace engineering concepts.<br />

COMPUTER INTEGRATED MANUFACTURING -<br />

PLTW ® 1 & 2<br />

Students will design, create, and program robotic devices.<br />

Use CNC (Computer Numeric Control) machinery to produce<br />

designs and learn to program the robot to produce a product<br />

in quantity.<br />

Capstone course. Students work in teams for an advanced<br />

application of the engineering design process. They will research,<br />

define, and validate a technical problem; design, build, and test<br />

PROSTART 1 & 2<br />

ProStart is a nationally-certified, college-prep culinary arts and<br />

business management program. In the class, students become<br />

ServSafe certified food handlers, as well as learn a variety of<br />

culinary techniques and skills, engage in proper customer service<br />

techniques, and learn basic food service business management.<br />

After completing both semesters, students possess the knowledge<br />

and resources to obtain jobs and internships in a broad spectrum<br />

of hospitality-based businesses.<br />

BAKING AND PASTRY APPLICATIONS 1 & 2<br />

Baking Applications is designed to expose students to advanced<br />

techniques of baking and pastry, combining creativity with food<br />

science to produce ornate and delicious pastries and baked goods.<br />

The students further spend the second semester paired with a local<br />

food service business gaining critical work experience and technical<br />

skills required for students interested in a career in the hospitality<br />

and tourism industry. It is required that you complete ProStart 1 & 2<br />

prior to taking this program.<br />

ARTS, & DESIGN<br />

Students will learn layout, color theory, typography, the theory and<br />

history of design, elements and fundamentals of art and design,<br />

Students learn advanced skills and techniques in all areas of the<br />

creative process: communication arts; production; post production;<br />

print and web medias; visual problem solving; critical thinking;<br />

artistic fundamentals; team building; and real-world employability<br />

skills for graphic designers and digital media artists. Students will<br />

create professional portfolios. Adobe Creative Suite software.<br />

TEACHER CADET 1 - A & B<br />

This nationally-recognized program will guide students through<br />

different teaching methods, styles, and strategies. There is a focus<br />

on ethics, classroom culture, discipline, the history of education,<br />

curriculum trends, school reform, governance and management,<br />

diversity, and multiculturalism. Includes a 10-week field experience<br />

in a classroom.<br />

TEACHER CADET 2 - A & B<br />

Teacher Cadet II is a college prep program designed for students<br />

who have completed Teacher Cadet I and are interested in continuing<br />

to pursue the education pathway. Teacher Cadet II students<br />

learn through hands-on activities, guest speakers, field trips, classroom<br />

observations, research, and practicums in the educational setting.<br />

Students will learn about: Instructional Teamwork; Orientation<br />

to Special Education; Student Supervision; Instructional Strategies;<br />

Behavior Management; Communication; and Support for Challenging<br />

Behavior. Students may have the opportunity to obtain paraprofessional<br />

certificate through field experience hours working with<br />

a mentor teacher throughout the school year.<br />

VIDEO PRODUCTION 1 & 2<br />

This course is an introduction to television, video, and film<br />

production. Students are actively involved in creating dynamic<br />

video projects using a variety of industry standard software<br />
