RECTOR’S MESSAGE
Dear Readers,
The first four issues of the Leaders Magazine
reached in the hands of thousands of readers
all over North Macedonia, Balkans and Turkey.
Their positive comments and impressions
gave a boost to the team behind the Magazine
and here we are today, the 5th issue is in front
of us.
14 years ago, the founders of International
Balkan University envisioned the path which
would lead to a noble cause of rebuilding the
bridges of cooperation, understanding and
brotherhood between the different nations
and cultures in the Balkans and Turkey.
The mission of our university is to educate
self-confident and qualitative youngsters
who will take responsibility towards the
societies in the region and work together for
the better tomorrow for all of us. Today, while
we are celebrating the 10th anniversary of
International Balkan University, we are proud
to see how this mission sees the light at the
end of the tunnel. I do see in their eyes hope
and belief that tomorrow will be better if they
are given the chance to lead and show us
what they can do together.
The internationalism of higher education
is one of the key priorities of IBU. In this
regard, we intensified our cooperation in
the framework of Erasmus+ and Mevlana
with prominent universities from Turkey and
Europe, opening the doors of mobility and
international educational experience for
our students with more than 200 partner
universities from more than 40 countries.
The 5th International Congress on Social
Sciences (INCSOS 19), organized in partnership
with several universities, with more than
900 participants from 13 countries and 93
universities came out to be a real scientific
forum and confirmed the topic of the
Congress, that is – from diversity to synergy.
With the participation of the Speaker of
the Grand National Assembly of Turkey
and Honorary Chair of the Congress, Prof.
Dr. Mustafa Şentop, the congress works
were open on the opening ceremony which
gathered representatives of governmental
organizations, rectors of universities,
academics, scientists, researchers,
representatives of business sector, nongovernmental
organizations, media, etc.
When it comes to art, the skills of our
students raised enormous attention among
art lovers with the organization of the 7th Art
& Architecture Exhibition, where more than
300 pieces of artwork were exhibited.
I have always trusted in youth and these
events proved me right. Their creativity,
open-mindedness, modern skills, along with
their commitment to offer the world a new
and better tomorrow, deserves our outmost
support.
We seek excellence for the future, for and
from the leaders of tomorrow!
Yours,
Prof. Dr. Mehmet Dursun Erdem

shared determination – to keep the best and most
talented young people here, to provide them with
quality education and to create their future here, in
our country and in our region.
Using this approach to the youth the International
Balkan University has developed a unique module
and way of functioning that is worth to be followed
and supported.
The International Balkan University is an international
university in its most essential meaning of the word
because it involves an academic environment for
working and studying into English only while the
scholars and students are consisted of people with
various national, religious and cultural backgrounds.
Additionally, it is important to underline that through
the mobility network Erasmus +, the International
Balkan University besides enabling our students to
acquire experiences in Europe and to build friendships
and network of cooperation with their European
peers in the course of their studies; it also welcomes
European students here, in North Macedonia.
In line with the overall, and especially the economic
development, it is especially important that the
universities respond to the needs of the labor market,
but also to the investors’ needs of qualified and globally
competitive staff.
In that line, I strongly support the cooperation of the
International Balkan University with the business
community and national institutions and I encourage
the deepening of this cooperation with new partnerships
that will bring successful results for all of us.
I hereby support the decision of the University to
establish а Faculty of Medical Science. This is a bold

expressing my most sincere wishes for future successful
academic achievements, I welcome this initiative and
I strongly believe that the young generations who

The National Bank Governor Dr. Anita Angelovska Bezhoska
delivered a lecture to students of the Faculty of Economics and
Administrative Sciences at International Balkan University
The Governor of National Bank of the Republic of North Macedonia, Dr. Anita Angelovska Bezhoska on 11th
December 2019 delivered a lecture to the students of the International Balkan University on the dynamics
and the model of economic growth before, during, and after the global economic and financial crisis and
the latest macroeconomic forecasts of the National Bank. Afterwards, she addressed the general trends
in Central East and Southeast European countries, pointing out that many countries in the region had an
excessive and unsustainable growth model that came to the fore during the global crisis when growth rates
slowed down significantly. As she pointed out, economic growth in our country decelerated at a slower pace
though, yet being among the highest in the region.
The Governor also spoke about the latest macroeconomic forecasts of the National Bank for the period
until 2022, first referring to the key assumptions of the forecasts. She also pointed out that these forecasts
presume a stable domestic environment, further inflow of foreign investment, extension of the public
infrastructure cycle and increasing foreign demand, albeit more moderate than the April forecasts.
“The forecasted medium-term growth rates of our economy are slightly higher than those of the European
economy reflecting real convergence to the European income level. Yet, faster convergence requires higher
economic growth rates which implies an increased level of potential growth through further structural
reforms”, said Angelovska Bezhoska.
Students at the International Balkan University expressed great interest in the lecture, which grew into an
open discussion with the governor. The discussion also raised a number of relevant issues such as factors
for strengthening capacities for greater long-term economic growth, relationship between deposit growth
and economic growth, and the importance of credit support.
The National Bank financial education has significantly strengthened. It includes a number of lectures
on important central banking topics to students from all interested higher education institutions in the
country. Governor Angelovska Bezhoska’s lecture was delivered as part of these activities. Such lectures to
economics students at other higher education institutions are scheduled for the upcoming period.
