A BIT ABOUT OUR VAL & SAL SYDNEY ANN SAUER Class of 2019 Valedictorian Sydney arrived at CHCA halfway through fourth grade, and she is grateful for all the opportunities CHCA provided her. She was a National Merit Finalist and a National AP Scholar, having studied 12 AP classes, and received a perfect score on the ACT. She was also a CHCA Distinguished Cum Laude Scholar and received 9 CHCA Academic Excellence Awards. Outside of class, she loved to learn and explore everything from foreign languages to environmental science in her free time. In addition to academics, Sydney played several varsity sports including soccer, softball, and track and field, where she was awarded MVC First Team in shotput as a freshman. She also enjoyed working with the International Student Program in a variety of roles and was heavily involved with the Food Symposium. Outside of school, she participated in local government as the student representative to the Hamilton County Recycling and Solid Waste Policy Committee, volunteered with a local hospice organization, and worked part-time through the school year as a math tutor at Mathnasium. She’s also an accomplished writer, having sold over 200 articles to various businesses around the world, and her work has been published by Vox. Above all else, she loves being with people, especially her friends and family. She is attending The Ohio State University as an Eminence Fellow, pursuing a double major in computer science and journalism. JULIA KATHRYN STOTZ Class of 2019 Salutatorian Julia joined CHCA in fifth grade and is thankful for the excellent teachers and educational opportunities from which she learned. Julia was a CHCA distinguished scholar, Learn Scholarship recipient, and AP scholar with honors. Julia was truly honored to receive the four-year social studies award, as her academic passion is social sciences. Beyond the classroom, Julia was a club swimmer for 10 years. She earned a four-year varsity letter in swimming and was a district qualifier. She was named first team all-conference both sophomore and senior years. In her last season, she was a member of the 200-freestyle relay that broke the school record. Julia also enjoyed playing the flute in pep band. She was elected Mu Alpha Theta president and National Honor Society vice president. Julia volunteered over 400 hours during her high school years. She especially enjoyed her role as a fifth grade Sunday school teacher at her church as well as being an SOS leader supporting Back2Back Ministries.
