Around the City
Alicia Norton
Palm Coast Parks & Recreation strives to enhance
community so that everyone feels welcome. It’s Alicia’s job
to assure that our residents get all the information they
need to enjoy our activities and events or spend time in
our facilities and parks. As their Recreational Leader for
Marketing, she’s been on-the-go since beginning her job
this year. She produces monthly eNewsletters featuring
the City’s recreational Parks & Rec activities, special
events and announcements. She designs, writes, and
creates eNews graphics for a growing monthly audience
of over 11,000 readers. She shoots animated photos, crafts
unique promo videos and writes motivating text. Palm
Coast is now seeing monthly total engagements topping
48,000 from social media posts. Alicia holds a bachelor’s
degree in Communications with a minor in Art from
Worcester State University in Massachusetts. Coming
to our City from South Carolina, she says she’s uniquely
qualified to view marketing through the lens of being a
new citizen and also a new mom. “While taking photos
here, I realized I had a passion for candid photography,”
she tells us. “This job gave me tools and time to build my
skills and I’ve been learning so much about Palm Coast
ever since.”
Three Fun Facts about Alicia:
1. She’s on her way to visit all 32 NFL teams in their
home stadiums. Each year she and her husband join
an annual cousin football trip and this year (their
6th), they visited Phoenix to root for the Arizona
Cardinals.
2. She drank a ‘cuppa tea at the Charleston Tea
Plantation, the only tea plantation in the US.
3. One of her photographs was featured in a
rotating exhibit at the Fitchburg Art Museum in
Massachusetts.

Yvonne Robinson
For the past five years in her position in the City’s
Community Development, Yvonne Robinson has
genuinely valued the shifting opinions and perspectives
she has seen in our community. As Administrative
Manager, she provides administrative office support to
management, primarily with code enforcement. She
works closely with our residents to respond to inquiries
and complaints, compose letters, supervise staff and
perform invoicing and budgeting functions.
“Palm Coast has become more culturally diverse over the
years and now comprises people from all walks of life,
from multiple generations,” she says. “Everyone’s ideas
differ about how our City can expand and what progress
we can make. It’s been my job to listen and let our residents
know that what they say matters.” It sounds like Yvonne’s
Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature and minor
in Psychology (from Brooklyn College in Brooklyn, NY) is
being put to good use!
Three Fun Facts about Yvonne:
1. She loves listening to music and singing and she’s
actually performed in a local band.
2. She’s also performed live, as part of local musical
productions, even though she says she’s rather shy.
3. She loves cruising because a ship can carry her to
many different countries.

Utility to the rescue
It’s possibly one of the most dreadful
home emergencies. It’s late on a
Friday afternoon and you find water
increasingly flowing from around your
water meter. You panic and worry -
who would conceivably come out to
help so late before a weekend?
For one family in Palm Coast’s R
section, our City’s Utility Department
came to the rescue. Utility Distribution
Maintenance Team members Matthew
Sweeney and Leonard Grocki quickly
responded to their emergency call late
on a Friday in December.
Determining that the family needed
immediate attention, Matthew and
Leonard quickly got to work and
began digging. The water surge
was successfully repaired and water
service restored so that this family of
five would have no interrupted service
over a weekend.
The family was so relieved and
delighted, they sent a message to the
Utility Department offering praise for
Matthew and Leonard’s service and
commitment. Their compliment was
gratefully appreciated.
“We’ve been working for the City for a
combined total of 25 years,” Matthew
and Leonard say. “Their recognition
for our work makes everything we do
for our customers really worthwhile.
It’s nice to know there are residents
who appreciate what we do.”
It’s a primary mission for the Palm
Coast Utility Department to give
residents their most undivided
attention, working for them until
every aspect of their issue has been
addressed, completed, explained
and understood. It’s an honor for
us to share this experience with our
community, commending staff who
go well above and beyond to solve a
resident’s water issue.

Palm Coast to exercise at least 90
miles in 90 days,” said Palm Coast
Mayor Milissa Holland. “That’s
an average of one mile per day.
Whether it’s walking, bicycling,
tennis, running or another exercise,
You’ve resolved to get into shape for
the New Year, but how do you get
started?! Take the first step toward
better health with the Mayor’s
90/90 Challenge, which is kicking

the important thing is to find an
activity you enjoy and make it a
daily habit.”
“Those small steps, taken day after
day, add up to an active lifestyle,”
Mayor Holland said.
The new Mayor’s 90/90 Challenge
will start Jan. 6 and continue
through April 4. Anyone who lives,
works, shops, plays or exercises in
Palm Coast is welcome to join in
the fun. The Challenge is open to all
ages, and families are encouraged
to participate together!
Participants can choose their
own form of exercise – and will
log their success on Palm Coast
Connect via the website at www.
palmcoastconnect.com or the app
via Google play store or Apple app
store.Progress will be self-reported
throughout the 90 days. It’s free to
sign up and participate!
Participants who want a more
structured program can choose
from any of Palm Coast Parks &
Recreation’s winter/spring fitness
programs – everything from line
dancing and tennis clinics to
Zumba® Gold and yoga.
Everyone who completes the
Mayor’s 90/90 Challenge will
receive a prize during the City
Council Meeting on April 7. Share
your progress on Instagram using

ROAD Closure on
Belle terre bOULevard
Belle Terre Blvd will be closed between Magnolia Trace Blvd and Citation
Blvd as crews work to replace (4) 48” metal Stormwater culverts beneath the
roadway and multiuse path/sidewalk.
The closure will last an estimated 60 days between from 12-11-2019 through
02-10-2020, and detours will redirect traffic to U.S. 1 and State Road 100/E.
Moody Blvd. City staff worked hard to time the project to provide little impact
to school bussing routes and we have notified Flagler County Schools as well
as emergency personnel.
Your city will update if the duration or timing of the project changes in any
way.

1. Palm Coast Fire Department and Palm Coast Professional Firefighters Local 4807 accepted a donation of $1,000
from the Knights of Inferno Motorcycle Club to purchase ballistic helmet’s and vest for front line trucks.
2. Congratulations to Firefighter Sean McBride who graduated from Paramedic Program at First Coast Technical
College in St. Augustine.
3. Palm Coast Fire Department & Palm Coast Professional Firefighters Local 4807 had a very successful ‘A Very
Merry Christmas Event’ with over 300 kids in attendance.
4. Engine 22, Fire Police & command staff stood by outside of European Village for the New Year’s Eve celebration.
