stoked
enough. Beautiful setting, very chilled
Total trip for the day ± 253km

DAY 3 – 2 NIGHT STAY
LOCH MAREE
Left Leeupan camp at 08h00
Refreshing shower – bit cold make sure you have extra wood to stoke the donkey
Off to Loch Maree via the Molopo River
You enter the Molopo river few kilometers from Leeupan Guest Farm .
Rocky road with lots of gates to open, the more scenic side of the road is actually on the
Botswana side which is divided by a wire fence and a tar road on the Botswana side. Exit the
Molopo River close to the Gemsbok border post into the Kgalagadi Stopped at the Molopo
Kalahari Lodge – stunning
Arrived at Loch Maree about lunch time
hot water.
There is also another smaller campsite “bush camp” more rustic closer to the view point.
DAY 4 – LOCH MAREE
05h30 off to the viewpoint for some sunrise pictures and coffee
Fun day ahead – driving the dunes
Left camp at about 09h00
Again couple of gates to be opened and closed before the fun starts
The whole trip from camp to back at camp is 50km
Dunes were loads of fun some a bit technical and challenging
Ended the day with a big camp fire and appreciating the stars
Loch Maree
This salt pan lies 5km west of the main road. The
pan is an extraordinary sight and a geological
marvel, it is 24km in circumference and covered
with a layer of salt 1 m thick, the equivalent of 9
million tons, with concentrate brine below the
surface. The salt is particularly pure. The
shimmering white surface of the pan is surrounded
by red sand dunes. With deep blue skies and
around February, masses of yellow-coloured
botterblommetjies flowers, the spectacle is
unforgettable. When it rains, water collects in the
pan but there is seldom enough to cover more than
a section of the dry floor. The shallow water is
blown about by the prevailing winds, sometimes
covering one portion of the pan and then within a
few hours, blown over another portion by a change
of wind.

DAY 5 – 2 NIGHTS STAY
RIEMVASMAAK
