18 Yamit and the Vinyl Blvd –<br />
8-10pm. Vinyl Blvd is the brainchild of<br />
vocalist and violinist Yamit Lemoine.<br />
The jazz ensemble performs regularly<br />
within Miami’s thriving live music scene<br />
and showcases an impressive roster of<br />
Miami’s top A-list jazz musicians. The<br />
band’s repertoire consists of up-tempo<br />
Swing tunes, Bossa Novas, Gypsy Jazz,<br />
New Orleans Jazz and some beautiful<br />
ballads as well. Yamit sings primarily in<br />
English, but also features some Spanish,<br />
French and Italian tunes within the sets.<br />

Lecture. Prof. Lowenthal and Dr. Cartwright<br />
will discuss the complexities<br />
between music, politics, aesthetics, and<br />
activism surrounding the Civil Rights<br />
Movement and the impact of these<br />
complexities on the Jazz Musicians of<br />
the time. Illustrated through the music<br />
and lyrics of such prominent artists as<br />
Louis Armstrong, Max Roach, Abby Lincoln,<br />
Nina Simone, Charles Mingus and<br />
others, our lecturers will draw on their<br />
personal relationships with many of the<br />
