KINGSTON FRONTENACS GAMEDAY REPORT

SECOND HALF STARTS AGAINST DIVISION RIVAL

FRONTS HOST RED HOT 67’S TO KICK OFF SECOND HALF OF SCHEDULE

Now that players have had a chance to go home

and spend some time with their families over the

holiday break, it is time for OHL teams to prepare for a

playoff push. With 36 games remaining for the Frontenacs,

every point will matter as they chase the final

playoff spot. Their opponent tonight, the Ottawa 67’s,

won’t have a problem getting in the playoffs but they

will still look for every point as they battle for the top

seed in the Eastern Conference.

Goal scoring has not been an issue when these

two teams meet. The last two games have resulted

in a combined 15 and 17 goals. Unfortunately for the

Frontenacs it was the 67’s scoring 8 and 11 of those

goals for a pair of wins.

The Frontenacs will look to take advantage of the

67’s while they are short handed. Defenceman Kevin

Bahl is away at the World Junior tournament, along

with Head Coach André Tourigny, representing Canada.

Even without Bahl in the lineup, Ottawa has plenty

of fire power including Austen Keating who has 12

points in 3 games against Kingston this season.

Kingston should also get a boost with the return of

Vitali Pinchuk, who had missed 7 games while playing

for Team Belarus at the World Junior Division 1

tournament. He and Team Belarus finished third in

the tournament and Vitali had 2 goals and 2 assists

in 5 games.

Although the Frontenacs haven’t recorded a win

against the 67’s yet this season, they have played in

close games. The first two meetings of the season

both went to overtime. Ottawa won 3-2 in Kingston on

September 27th and 8-7 in Ottawa on October 14th.

Kingston will look to double their point total against

Ottawa with a win tonight. KF

Francesco Arcuri is one of a group of young,

talented rookies that the Kingston Frontenacs

have with the fortune of being able to build towards

a team competing for an Ontario Hockey League

championship. After Shane Wright was chosen from

the Don Mills Flyers AAA club by the Frontenacs

with their first selection last summer, General

Manager Darren Keily selected another member of

the 2019 OHL Cup Championship squad with the

teams first pick in the second round of the 2019

OHL Priority Selection.

With Peterborough Petes having gained

Kingston’s original pick in the second round by way

of trade, the Frontenacs made up for it choosing

the Woodbridge, Ontario native 27th overall with

selection the team got in a deal with Sarnia Sting.

With Arcuri having been a part of one of the best

lines in all of midget hockey on the best team

during the 2018-19 season, it may have been one

of the steals of the draft.

Born on June 13, 2003, Arcuri is blessed with a

highly-attuned hockey sense and while his former

and current Frontenacs teammate Shane Wright

led their championship squad in points, Arcuri was

also a very dangerous player in his own right. He

scored 34 goals and 98 points in just 72 games last

season with Don Mills of the Greater Toronto Hockey

League. During the OHL Cup Arcuri finished third in

team-scoring behind Wright and 2019 OHL second

16

overall selection Brennan Othmann, now of the

Flint Firebirds, with four goals and nine assists for a

13-point championship playoff round.

In 2012/13, Arcuri played in the Brick Invitational

tournament in Edmonton, AB where he scored a

highlight-reel goal as he went through three players

before showing off his quick hands with a nice deke

around the goalie at the highly-watched event. You

can find the goal on Youtube.

Before playing in the GTHL, Arcuri was a

member of the Ontario and East Coast Selects teams

from 2015-2018 where he was part of a group

capturing the 2018 World U-15 Championship in

Philadelphia, PA. Showing signs of his offensive

flair, he led the team with eight points in nine games

winning his first championship with the Selects

after losing in the medal round twice with the U-12

and U-13 teams previously.

While at the U-13 tournament in 2016, he

had eight goals and 14 points in seven games in

Finland. He had exploded for 11 goals and nine

assists for a 20 point tournament in nine games

during the 2015 U-12 matchup in Bolzano, Italy.

The left-handed shooting Arcuri registered an

incredible five goals and 12 points during the threegame

elimination round that year.

Suiting up in 2019-20 pre-season with Kingston,

Arcuri was impressive as he registered a point in all

four games he appeared in with three goals and an

assist. He made his first career OHL appearance in

the September 20th season-opener at home versus

the Oshawa Generals. The slick-passing forward

BILLY KIMMERLY

only needed until his second game to get his first

point as he assisted on a Nick Wong powerplay goal

during the 3-2 overtime loss to Ottawa 67’s. Two

games later he scored his first multi-point game

picking up two assists within three minutes against

the Niagara IceDogs on October 4th.

His first OHL goal came against the London

Knights on Oct 19th in what would also be his

second multi-point game as he also added an

assist. He scored the goal on a breakaway in a sign

of things to come for a player who seems to thrive

in one-on-one situations. Arcuri has scored on all

three of his shootout attempts so far this season

and is one of only two players in the league (Tag

Bertuzzi of Hamilton) to have a perfect record. With

a similar shootout style to NHL’ers Auston Matthews

of Toronto and TJ Oshie of Washington he says it’s

something he enjoys as it can be the difference in

a game: “I work on it in practice sometimes for fun

and I just want to keep it going.”

Coming into tonight’s action vs Ottawa 67’s, the

2021 NHL draft-eligible has four goals, eight assists

for 12 points placing him 16th amongst OHL rookies

and 9th in Kingston scoring and is currently on a

three-game point streak (1G,2A). At 6’0”, 182 lbs,

he hasn’t been afraid to get in the dirty areas of the

ice and plays a subtle physical game. KF
