"BABY"
I
Interview by: Yvonne Young
Car Owner: Mark Winkles
Car: 1961 Ford F100 “BABY”
Model: Raven
Once again we decided to do this photo shoot down in the crossroads of Kansas City.
Once we saw this 1961 Ford truck we knew exactly were to do the photo shoot. We knew
we could capture the authenticness of this truck in the area we went to!
Mark Winkles had been looking for a truck about 9 years ago. He wanted to find a
specific one so that he could fix it up and call it his own. He was relaxing one day on the
weekend browsing the internet , on EBAY and came across the beautiful 1961 Ford F100.
The truck needed some work but he was willing to put forth the effort for the truck. He
fell in love with it and had to have it. The truck was in Fort Smith, Arkansas for sale threw
an auction service. He also noticed the ad for this truck that the sale of it was lasting
through Thursday of that week. Well Mark works nights. So the plan was when he got
off of work that Sunday night and when his wife Janet got off of work that Monday, that
they would head to Fort Smith Arkansas to check the F100 truck out. When Mark laid
down that early morning to try and get some rest, he couldn’t do it! All that Mark had
on his mind was that 1961 Ford F100 waiting for him to come and get it! So he ended up
calling his wife and asking her if she could take the rest of the day off so that they could
go ahead and head to Arkansas to check the truck out. She did so, and they headed
to Arkansas as soon as she got home. When they arrived at the destination where this
specific truck was, Mark drove her (as he said), checked her out and negotiated price.
Mark was happy with the negotiation and bought the truck “BABY”. He bought her
in August of 2010. They went back to Fort Smith, Arkansas about a month after they
bought the truck to have it serviced and the fluids changed out. They ended up getting
caught in a real bad rain storm. That drive took them 5 hours to do. Mark and
his wife Janet started showing their 1961 Ford F100 in 2011. They enjoy driving the truck
everywhere they can drive it. They have driven their baby to DeadWood, South Dakota
for the event Kool DeadWood Nights. Cruising the Black Hills of South Dakota and ending
up in Sturgis. Mark stated they have actually ran the drag strip there too. Mark also
stated that his truck is not a trailer queen! The only time she would be on a trailer is if
she broke down or had been stolen.

Mark Winkles Q & A
1961 Ford F100
Q: What gratification do you
get showing your truck?
A: I enjoy watching the faces of
the spectators at the show and
the stories they have. Letting
the little kids in the truck and

This 1961 Ford F100
has had a few
modifications done
to it over the years.
Mark upgraded to
disc brakes on the
front and removed
three springs from
the rear for leveling
and smoother ride.
He also liked the
look of the original
center caps on
the wheels. The
engine went from
a straight six to a
302 and converted
to a 5-speed
transmission. Mark
and one of his
buddies duplicated
new wiring to the
headlights and
taillights. Mark
also duplicated
the original boards
in the bed of the
truck.
These pictures

has modifications.
The gauges
of this F100 have
been upgraded to
the larger trucks
gauges of the
same era that
had fuel gauges.
Mark also added
air conditioning
a few years ago.
This F100 was a

Fort Smith Arkansas.
The truck
started out as OD

point the color
was desert sand.
The original color
of this year truck
was Caribbean
Turquoise.

BLACK BEAUTY
Interviewed by: Yvonne Young
Car Owner: Joseph Laner
Car: 1957 Ford Fairlane 500 “Skyliner”
Cars name: “Black Beauty”
Model: Kilee Kearns
We decided to do this photoshoot at Wyandotte County Lake. We knew this lake and
the area was the perfect spot for capturing the true beauty of this 1957 Ford Fairlane
500. Seeing this car near the water, it makes you want to kick back and relax or wanting
to have a picnic next to the water.
Mr Joseph Laner purchased this beautiful 1957 Ford Fairlane in 2013 from a private
owner in Ohio. He wanted to purchase a car that he could have fun with! This certain
Ford Fairlane really needed a lot of work done to it. Joe had been talking to his son-inlaw
about Joe’s grandsons wedding the following year of him purchasing the Fairlane.
They discussed about getting it fixed up for the wedding, so they could maybe use it in
the wedding. Joe said only if you take care of it and keep up the maintenance on it. As
they were discussing everything, the value of the car came up that in 20 years imagine
what the car would be worth. So Joe decide to have a complete frame off restoration.
This restoration took about 7 1/2 months. With a frame off restoration it includes,
total removing the body from the frame and replacing or fixing every part of the car as
it is needed. It took quit awhile for the car to be restored, but it was completed the day
before his grandsons wedding. The retractable hard-top wouldn’t work when Joe got
the Fairlane back but it didn’t matter because it rained the day of the wedding and Joe
wasn’t going to bring it out in the rain! Joe immediately contacted Jerry Miller to come
and get the car and take back to Arkansas to fix the retractable hard-top. There are
very few people that can fix the retractable hard-tops and it can be very expensive.
Joe has always love this model year of the Fairlane. His second car at the age of seventeen
was a 57 Ford Fairlane 500 with a police interceptor engine. That Fairlane was
yellow and black, Joe’s favorite colors. Joe wanted to paint this Fairlane the same colors
as his old one, but he had to keep his wife happy and she said no way! He made this
Fairlane all original except for the interior. He wanted it to be red and white and you see
that’s how he had it done. Joe has also added some of his own touches, like the rims,
white walls and the addition to the front bumper. He was very afraid to drive his new
baby at first. He was worried about the car getting chips in the paint and dents in the
car because of the road conditions. It took awhile for him to be more comfortable driving
it around after a first few chips and dents.

In 1957 this beautiful Fairlane went for a very reasonable price of $2,942 and there were only 20,776 of
them made with retractable hard tops. The retractable hardtops are made of many mechanisms. They
consist of 610 ft of wiring, 10 power relays, 8 circuit breakers, 10 limit switches, 3 drive motors, 4 lock motors
and a neutral cycle activation switch to operate the hard top. Wayne Rollins with the International
Ford retractable club recently fixed the retractable roof on this Fairlane and spent 14 hours fixing it.

RAT TRAP
Interviewed by: Yvonne Young
Car Owner: Doug Hauser
Car: 1933 Ford Sedan Delivery
Car name: “Rat Trap”
Model: Adrienne Elyse
Once again we went to Kansas City crossroads for this photoshoot. We went to multiple
spots to capture the essence of this 1933 Ford Sedan Delivery. This car is one of a
kind!
Doug Hauser is the owner of this ride, as well as a lifelong classic car enthusiast and
the owner for the past 16 years of a local classic car business called KC Classic Cars.
Doug was at a collectors vechicle auction in Cape Girardeau, Missouri in early 2019. He
loved everything about this classic car as it rolled across the auction block. Doug felt he
had to have this car and when it ended up being a no sale, Doug went chasing down the
owner of the Sedan and asked the gentleman if he would sell it to him. The two of them
couldn’t work out a price at that time. Doug ended up running into that same gentleman
and his wife a little later in the area of the auction where you pay for the vehicles you
buy and pick up the titles. Doug spoke with him and his wife about selling the sedan to
him once again. Still no luck at that time but Doug gave the gentleman his business card
and asked him to give him a call if he changed his mind on selling it. It took a little while
but about a week or so later the gentleman called Doug. The gentleman had thought
things over and due to some unfortunate circumstances in his life, he was ready to let
the street rod go. They agreed to a price right then and there. So Doug got the sedan as
he wanted it! Doug ended up driving over to Illinois to the gentleman’s house about a
week later to purchase the Sedan. When Doug arrived at the gentlemans farm he was
in his barn working on big farming equiptment. The sedan was on a lift waiting on Doug
for inspection for the sale. After an inspection of the sedan and short test drive Doug
made the deal. So he loaded the car up and headed back to Kansas City. This 1933 Ford
Sedan Delivery was a $115,000 build. When this build was done the original owner got in
it and drove it. He ended up putting about 16,000 miles on it. Normally when a build like
this is done the owner just puts a couple of hundred miles on it , maybe a couple thousand
miles. He built it to drive and enjoy it, so that he did! This Badass Ford Sedan is for
sale! This 1933 Ford Sedan Delivery was built in 2009. If interested in purchasing the “Rat
Trap” contact Doug on his facebook page @KCClassicCars or via his web site at http://
www.kcclassiccars.us.

Interviewed by: Yvonne Young
Car Owner: Greg Armstrong
Car: 1963 Chevy Impala Wagon
Cars Name: “OGSIX3”
Model: Olivia Darling
We did this photoshoot in the underpass of a triple level bridge in the West Bottoms
area. The one thing about Kansas City is that there are so many areas for some really
good photos to be shot.
This gorgeous Impala Wagon has came a long way. Unfortunately we weren’t able to
process the before picture of the wagon that Greg showed us the day of the shoot. We
saw what it had looked like before he put his love and money into it. We must say it is a
complete transformation. Greg found out about this car being for sale from one
of his buddies. He went to the car lot that his buddy told him about that was ran by
Efrain (Preacher Joe), that was in our issue2 of our magazine. When he arrived at the
car lot Greg and him talked about the wagon and came to an agreement of price for it.
Greg ended up leaving with the 1963 Chevy Impala Wagon. Greg actually bought this
car about 15 years ago. Greg has put so much time and passion into this gorgeous ride!
It took him a few years to start the transformation of the Impala wagon. That happened
over the span of about 10 to 12 years. All the specific things that he has had done to this
wagon had definitely made it a one of a kind Impala Wagon! This Impala Wagon
has been brought to life with the enthusiasm of so many people following through with
the thoughts and ideas that Greg had for it. From the surfboard on the top of the car
to the specific interior that he wanted to put in it, including the upgrades of the interior
from what was factory of the Impala Wagon. Down to the Gorgeous rims and
wheel covers. Back in the day most people overlooked the Impala Wagon because
of it’s not so straight lined body and the length of the car. It definitely was the perfect car
for all of your buddies to get in and go for a cruise. The wagon was made for those who
enjoyed being able to tow things without a worry and liked to have a lot of room. Since
then some have taken the time to turn these roomy wagons into cars of Perfection!

Mother’s Thumper
Interviewed by: Yvonne Young
Car Owner: Joseph and Marsha Jensen
Car: 1968 Chevy Camaro Rally Sport Coupe
Car Name: “Mother’s Thumper”
This photoshoot was done in the Crossroads of Kansas City. So many choices of
where we were able to shoot this classic car. We felt one of the for sure places was in
the area Jack Stacks by Union Station, because of the big Bull in the back of the restaurant.
The power of the Camaro and the matching power of a bull seemed to definitely
suit each other.
I must say when I interviewed Joe and Marsha I was so drawn in by this couple. The
love they have for each other and things that they have done together and for each other
is what most couples would love to have and do. Marsha is the Camaro lover of the
two. This is what started the path of the two of them becoming Camaro owners. Joe has
always been into cars, hence always done work on cars and rebuilding them. Marsha’s
first Camaro was a 1976 LT. Joe, Marsha and their son went to look at the 76” Camaro
originally for their son. Marsha ended up with it instead of their son and they still have it.
Marsha had always wanted a 1st generation Camaro so Joe was looking for one for her.
A couple of friends of Joe’s that are in the Camaro Club of Kansas City told him about
this 1968 Camaro for sale. So Joe and Marsha went to check the Camaro out. Joe said
that when they saw the Camaro, they knew that it needed a lot of work. Joe noticed
that about 35% of the restoration had been done on the car. They bought the Camaro in
2004. Joe immediately started working on the restoration of the car when they got it.
He stated that most of the work that was done on the car had to be redone, due to bad
workmanship. Joe and his sons got to working on restoring the Camaro hoping to be
ready for the Power Tour of 2005. They got the restoration done enough to join in the
Power Tour! Him and His sons did 99% of the work on this classic car themselves. Joe
and Marsha drove it from Milwalkee to Kissimmee Florida. They have taken the Camaro
on the full Power Tour every year since 2005. The Power Tour usually happens every
year in June. This tour is 7 car shows in 7 days. The places for these 7 shows in 7 days
changes every year and you never know where it’s going to start and end until that year.
The mileage for doing these shows range from 1,200 miles to 2,000 miles and that’s not
including the mileage to get to the starting place. They traveled about 4,200 miles in
2019. Joe originally bought this 1968 Chevy Camaro for Marsha for her Birthday! This
classic car is a true labor of love, for his love! Marsha and Joe have approximately
$30,000 invested in this Classic Car so far.
