Getting around our island is

easy, just a thirst for adventure and

your experience will be amazing,

if it’s on a bike enjoy the wind

on your hair but play it safe and

follow the rules.

As an alternative take a car &

driver, a very affordable way to

kick back and enjoy the scenery in

air-conditioned comfort.

is no end of great options, all you

need is Google and the energy to

get yourself over the line!

ISLAND WEATHEr

Best time to Go

The prime time to visit is November to April when

skies are blue, the sea is clear and diving at its best!


The dry season in Phu Quoc is typically November through to April, when the skies

are blue, the sea on the west coast is very calm, diving and boating is at its best.

We often get high temperatures and humidity leading up to the wet season in

March, April and in to May but its still a good time to visit just a bit hot!

The wet season usually starts towards the end of April to early May and continues to

October, sometimes even into November during this period however we can have some

great sunny dry spells.

Temperatures in the rainy season are much milder which makes it more comfortable

for some people, but the rain can be heavy – particularly towards the end of the season

in October, when you can expect a heavy downpour every other day. Heavy rain can also

be dependent at times on storm activities further north usually in central Vietnam, during

bad storm seasons up there Phu Quoc would tend to get lots of rain because of it.

At most times during the rain season the good weather is usually in the mornings and

ideal for early touring or simply relaxation on the beach.

The northern interior, with its waterfalls and rich vegetation, is best visited in the wet

season, this is when the rivers are at their peak and the forests are lush and green – a

stark difference from the dry season.

Note the wet season also has an effect on the sea around the island.

On the east coast, particularly Sao and Khem beaches, the sea is often calmer and

clearer whilst the west coast can be quite rough, in contrast in the dry season the west

coast is at its best with the sea like a lake! Of course, all this being said, the weather

should never totally dictate when you visit Phu Quoc.

Mùa khô ở Phú Quốc thường bắt đầu từ tháng 11 đến tháng 4, bầu trời trong xanh,

các bãi biển ở khu vực phía Tây của đảo rất yên bình, thuận lợi cho việc lặn

ngắm san hô hay các hoạt động khám phá biển. Từ tháng 3, đến tháng 5 vẫn

còn thời điểm đẹp để du lịch Phú Quốc dù trời có hơi nóng do đảo đang chuyển

dần sang mùa mưa.

Mùa mưa thường bắt đầu vào cuối tháng 04 hoặc đầu tháng 05 và kéo dài đến tháng

10 hoặc sang tháng 11. Mặc dù vậy, vẫn có nhiều dịp trời nắng ấm. Nhiệt độ thường dễ chịu

hơn nhưng thỉnh thoảng có những cơn mưa nặng hạt vào tháng cuối tháng 10, hoặc có khi

mưa suốt trong nhiều ngày do ảnh hưởng của các cơn bão và áp thấp nhiệt đới.

Trong mùa này, buổi sáng là thời gian lý tưởng nhất cho các hoạt động vui chơi và thư

giãn trên bãi biễn.

Khu vực phía Bắc đảo với các thác nước, hệ thực vật rừng nguyên sinh vô cùng phong

phú là điểm đến tuyệt vời để khám phá vào mùa mưa. Các con sông ngập tràn nước, rừng

cây xanh non, khác biệt hoàn toàn so với mùa khô hạn.

Mùa mưa cũng có tác động đến các vùng biển xung quanh đảo. Các bãi biển ở Đông

đảo như Bãi Kem hay Bãi Sao thường yên bình, mặt biển trong xanh và lặn sóng như nước

hồ. Trong khi đó, các bãi biển ở khu vực phía Tây đảo thường có sóng lớn và nhiều lúc nguy

hiểm để tắm hay lặn biển. Dù đến bất cứ thời gian nào thì Phú Quốc vẫn luôn có rất nhiều

điều để bạn khám phá. Vì vậy, đừng để thời tiết ngăn cản kế hoạch của bạn đến với hòn

đảo xinh đẹp này.

Getting to know the island

This verdant Island is surrounded by a number

of smaller islands mainly to the south and has

some of the most beautiful beaches in Vietnam


Phu Quoc sits in the Gulf

of Thailand around 45km

from the town of Ha

Tien on the Vietnamese

mainland, measuring approx. 48

km from north to south, and 19 km

east to west, the island packs a lot

in to a small space.

You can liken the shape of

the Island to that of a “teardrop”,

widest at the top in the north and

narrowing to a small point at the

bottom in the south.

Running along the west coast

is the popular Long Beach, home

to many resorts and restaurants

and the perfect spot to catch the

wonderful Phu Quoc sunset.

spot. Whilst Long Beach dominates

the west coast, also in the north the

National Park and other rural areas the

key attractions, hiking trails, waterfalls

and wildlife await those with a strong

sense of adventure.

The 14 smaller islands to the south

that make up the stunning Phu Quoc

archipelago make for a great day out

with fishing and snorkeling trips being

very popular excursions to the remote

southern island beaches. Phu Quoc’s

main town is Duong Dong, located on

the west coast about half way up the

island.

This is a typical Vietnamese town

but is developing very fast into

an urban area – bustling morning

markets, quiet lunchtimes and busy

again in early evening as the locals

finish their day and head out for fun

in the cooler hours. Duong Dong has

a great selection of bars, cafes and

restaurants as well as a night market,

supermarkets, shops and services for

pretty much every eventuality.

For that local culinary experience

go where the locals go and town is

the top recommendation, try your

luck along 30/4 street from 6pm there

are some great restaurants and at

reasonable prices too.

The town marina where you can

always catch a cool breeze and the

night market are also popular visiting

spots at night.

With the rapid development of the

Island in the last few years the local

population is now well over 150,000

people whom historically have been

employed largely in the fishing

industry.

However, as the island’s popularity

continues to soar, tourism has become

a main source of employment for the

islanders and those coming from the

mainland in search of opportunity.

If you’re moving around the island

it’s useful to get your bearings, the

airport is towards the southern end of

Phu Quoc, about 10 km or a 20-minute

drive from Duong Dong town.

There’s essentially one main road

running the length of the island up

the middle, which splits in the north

to take you to the northwestern and

northeastern corners.

There are also two other main

roads are to be noted, one from the

International Airport heading south

to An Thoi (this is almost complete at

the time of writing) and also one from

Duong Dong town heading north west

finishing at the sleepy coastal village

of Ganh Dau.

There are of course smaller roads

and lanes, and more are being added

all the time as the island infrastructure

develops, some back roads however

are often un surfaced and may not be

suitable for motorbikes or bicycles,

particularly in the wet season pay

careful attention.

Whatever road you take though,

and however you take it, you’ll find

plenty of quiet spots to explore – often

with just a handful of villagers for

company and that may only be on a

Sunday!

That’s the beauty of Phu Quoc – so

much variety in such a small space.

Phú Quốc là một quần

đảo xinh đẹp, xung

quanh có nhiều đảo nhỏ,

tập trung ở Nam Đảo,

là nơi có nhiều bãi biển

và hải sản tuyệt vời nhất

Việt Nam.

Đảo ngọc Phú Quốc nằm

hoàn toàn trong vịnh

Thái Lan, cách TP. Hà

Tiên 45km. Chiều dài

của đảo khoảng 48km từ Bắc tới

Nam, chiều rộng khoảng 19km từ

Đông sang Tây. Bạn có thể thấy

hòn đảo giống hình một giọt nước,

phần lớn nhất ở phía Bắc đảo và

nhỏ nhắn về phía Nam đảo.

Chạy dài khu vực phía Tây đảo

là Bãi Trường, nơi tập trung dày

đặc resort, khách sạn, villa là địa

điểm vô cùng lý tưởng để ngắm

hoàng hôn. Các bãi biễn đã chiếm

hơn phân nửa chiều dài của đảo vì

vậy bạn sẽ không bao giờ khó khăn

để tìm một bãi biển thiên đường

cho riêng mình.

So với khu vực phía Tây tập

trung nhiều bãi biển, khu vực phía

Bắc lại thu hút với rừng nguyên

sinh bạt ngàn và hệ sinh thái nông

nghiệp của người dân địa phương.

Đến đây, bạn sẽ khám phá rừng

nguyên sinh với thiên nhiên hoang

sơ cùng các thác nước trắng xóa

vào mùa mưa.

Ở vùng cực Nam của đảo là

quần đảo An Thới xinh đẹp với 14

đảo nhỏ bao quanh, nơi bạn có thể

lặn biển khám phá đại dương hay đắm

mình trên những hòn đảo nhỏ hoang

sơ như hòn Dăm Trong, hòn Dăm

Ngoài, hòn Mây Rút, hòn Móng Tay,….

Thủ phủ chính của đảo là thị trấn

Dương Đông, nằm phía Tây bờ biển,

tọa lạc gần như ở trung tâm đảo. Đây

được xem là nơi nhộn nhịp nhất trên

đảo và đang trở thành một đô thị lớn

với các phiên chợ chật kín người, phố

xá, các trung tâm thương mại hoạt

động sôi động từ sáng sớm đến chiều

tối. Dương Đông cũng là nơi tập trung

nhiều nhất các quán bar, cà phê, nhà

hàng, cửa hàng mua sắm phục vụ bất

cứ nhu cầu nào của du khách và người

dân địa phương. Và đặc biệt là chợ

đêm mà mọi du khách khi đến đảo

phải đặt chân đến.

Để thưởng thức ẩm thực Phú Quốc,

bạn hãy dành thời gian khám phá ở

khu phố 30/4 với nhiều nhà hàng hải

sản tươi ngon, giá hợp lý. Hãy đi về

phía biển Dinh Cậu để tận hưởng gió

mát và khu chợ đêm Bạch Đằng sôi

động.

Với sự phát triển vô cùng nhanh

chóng, hiện nay ước tính dân sống trên

đảo có hơn 150,000 người. Phần lớn

người dân địa phương trước đây tham

gia đánh bắt và chế biến hải sản hoặc

làm nông nghiệp. Tuy nhiên, do du lịch

phát triển nên người dân địa phương

ngày càng tham gia vào lĩnh vực du

lịch, dịch vụ nhiều hơn. Cư dân từ đất

liền cũng đổ về đảo ngày càng đông

đảo để tìm kiếm việc làm.

Để dễ dàng di chuyển trên đảo, bạn

từ sân bay sẽ đưa bạn đến thị trấn An

Thới ở phía Nam đảo.

Còn đi lên Bắc đảo, bạn có thể đi

theo một trong 2 trục đường chính

theo trục Dương Đông Bãi Thơm hoặc

trục đường Dương Đông – Cửa Cạn

– Gành Dầu. Ngoài ra, ở phía Bắc còn

có các trục đường chạy từ Đông sang

Tây và các con đường nhánh nhỏ, giúp

bạn khám phá từng ngóc ngách của

khu vực phía này. Hệ thống hạ tầng

giao thông đang được chính quyền nỗ

lực hoàn thiện để kết nối thêm nhiều

điểm đến mới. Lưu ý vào mùa mưa, các

đường đất đỏ thường khó đi vì vậy bạn

phải cẩn thận khi khám phá bằng xe

gắn máy hoặc xe đạp.

Bất cứ cung đường nào hay

phương tiện gì, bạn cũng sẽ có rất

nhiều điều để khám phá ở quần đảo

thiên đường này.






FINDING YOUR WAY

Getting around the island

Explore and have fun at your own pace


In and around the main

town of Duong Dong,

you can get about very

easily on foot. The

cooler morning hours are

certainly the best times to

catch the locals whether

be at the local market or

along the streets looking

for their breakfast of the

day!

Everything in town is

close to hand with shops,

restaurants and bars all

within short strolling

distance of each other. If

you’re looking to head

further afield then bicycles

are a great option.

Away from the busier

roads outside of town

you’ll find you can ride at

a leisurely pace and take

in the quiet streets, back

roads and beaches whilst

getting some mild exercise,

try to set off early to avoid

the heat of the afternoon

sun.

For longer distances,

motorbikes are a

convenient and a highly

affordable way to

experience Phu Quoc.

It’s a great experience to

be independent and visit

parts of the island most

people rarely get to see

while feeling the wind in

your hair.

Phu Quoc’s small size

and relatively quiet roads

make it ideal for exploring

by motorbike so with a

map, a sense of adventure

and a tank of petrol you’ll

be able to tour the country

lanes and quiet beaches

that most visitors can’t

get to.


Most hotels and

guesthouses will help

organize a motorbike

for you. Just give them

enough time – usually

only a few hours – and

motorbikes can be

delivered to where you

are staying. You can

expect to pay between

150,000vnd and

200,000vnd per day,

depending on season

and style of scooter/

motorbike.

Whether you’re cycling or riding a motorbike please be alert at all times.

Don’t be fooled by the slower pace of life on Phu Quoc, vehicles can sometimes

be travelling fast. ‘Right of Way’ is a very loose term in Vietnam – so look out for

vehicles pulling out in front of you or from anywhere for that matter!

Make sure that you

have a valid license, you

must be riding legally to

be covered by insurance!

Check your insurance.

If the bike is bigger than

50cc you may not be

covered in case of an

accident.

We recommend the

best place to rent a taxi

or motorbike is through

your Hotel or Resort. If

you’re in a small group,

or would just like to sit

back and let someone

else do the driving, then

taxis can be rented by

the day for approx. $50

for 6 hours or half day

approx. $30 for 4 hours.

Most taxis are 7-seaters

so are perfect for families

who want to get out to

explore and hit some

remote beaches.

Remember Safety comes first:

Helmets are to be worn

at all times and be careful

of cheap flimsy looking

ones, when you need them

they need to save you!

It's an obvious one but

don’t speed or drink and

ride, biggest causes of

accidents are speed

and alcohol

þ Always be alert and be ready to expect the unexpected!

We suggest booking

at least a few hours in

advance to be sure of

getting a vehicle at the

time you want. English

speaking drivers are hard

to come by so have a

map at hand to guide

the driver to the places

you wish to visit, some

drivers may want to take

you to another place

where they can earn a

commission so be clear

as to where exactly you

want to go.

Cover up! You catch

the sun a lot quicker than

you think on a bike

Avoid riding at night –

street (and some vehicle)

lighting is often inadequate

and there are plenty of

dogs wandering about

Xa hơn nữa, xe gắn máy là phương tiện tuyệt vời và không quá tốn

kém để khám phá Phú Quốc. Tự do ghé thăm những điểm ít người đặt

chân đến trên đảo và cảm nhận những làn gió mát lành lùa vào tóc bạn

khi lái xe trên đường thực sự là một trải nghiệm rất tuyệt vời. Chỉ cần

một chiếc xe gắn máy đổ đầy bình xăng, một bản đồ du lịch Phú Quốc

trên tay là bạn có thể lang thang khám phá Phú Quốc cả ngày theo cách

riêng của mình.

Tất cả các điểm lưu trú đều sẽ hỗ trợ bạn trong việc thuê xe gắn máy.

Hãy đặt trước để họ mang xe đến tận chỗ ở cho bạn. Giá thuê trung

bình là 150,000 đến 200.000 đồng/ngày tùy thuộc vào thời điểm bạn

du lịch hoặc loại xe (xe số hoặc xe tay ga). Chúng tôi khuyên bạn nên

hỏi tiếp tân nơi mình lưu trú để có một phương tiện tốt nhất.

Nếu bạn đi theo từng nhóm nhỏ, hoặc muốn ngồi phía sau và để ai

hành đúng giờ như ý muốn. Khi lên xe, bạn nên nói rõ những điểm mình

muốn đến để tránh “lạc” vào những nơi bạn không mong muốn và do tài

xế dẫn dắt.

Ngoài ra, các công ty du lịch cũng có tour khám phá đảo hàng ngày

theo lịch trình. Bạn hãy bỏ chút thời gian tìm hiểu hoặc hỏi nhân viên

của khách sạn đề có phương án tốt nhất.

Xin hãy lái xe có trách nhiệm và chú ý

những lời khuyên quan trọng sau:

Luôn mang theo bằng lái xe và

giấy tờ xe.

Kiểm tra giấy tờ bảo hiểm của người

và xe.

Bạn phải luôn đội mũ bảo hiểm và

nên nhớ đừng dùng những loại đẹp

mắt, rẻ tiền. Khi có sự cố chúng khó

có thể cứu bạn!

Hãy mặc quần áo kỹ để bảo vệ bạn

khi lái xe dưới trời nắng nóng.

Luôn nhớ rằng đừng bao giờ phóng

xe nhanh hay uống rượu bia khi lái

xe, nguyên nhân chủ yếu gây tai

nạn giao thông dẫn đến chết người

là do bia rượu và chạy quá tốc độ.

HÃY GHI NHỚ RẰNG AN TOÀN LÀ TRÊN HẾT

Dù là đi xe đạp hay xe gắn máy xin hãy luôn cẩn trọng. Đừng để nhịp

sống chậm ở Phú Quốc đánh lừa bạn, thỉnh thoảng các phương tiện đi

lại di chuyển rất nhanh. Vì vậy, nên hãy thận trọng đối với những phương

tiện ở phía trước hoặc ở bất kì đâu!

Getting there and away

Finding your way to our Island Paradise

A common gripe over the years has

been the cost of a Vietnamese visa for

those who just wish to visit Phu Quoc.

For some years now the procedure has

been in place for a FREE Visa to Phu

Quoc but it’s still yet to be exploited.

Currently there are two common

choices if you wish to only visit Phu

Quoc, first option is take the direct

flights either from Bangkok (Bangkok

Air) or Kuala Lumpur (Air Asia) where

the procedure on arrival at Phu Quoc

airport is very simple and straight

forward OR if you are transiting via

Hanoi or HCM city just follow the

procedure below;

Visa on Arrival Procedure

Most nationalities wishing only to

visit Phu Quoc can obtain a “Visa on

arrival letter” at the airport of entry

which allows a stay of up to 30 days,

see some of the key points to the

procedure below:

• You must have a return air ticket in

and out of Phu Quoc (and Vietnam)

• Passport with more than 6 months

validity

• Upon International arrival at Hanoi

or HCM City airport go to the area

just before immigration to get your

30 day visa “letter” (this is not a visa

in your passport)

• Now exit the International terminal

and go to the Domestic terminal,

here you will present your visa

“letter” upon airline check in then fly

to Phu Quoc, that's it!


Charter flights operate regularly

March) coming from Europe, UK,

Russia and China.

Southern Serenity,

do it while you can!

We injected ourselves with early

morning caffeine at Buddy Ice

Cream whilst waiting for our driver

Mr Tai to roll up, which he did so

right on time!

We were off to the port of An

Thoi and the southern islands

where we would board our vessel

for the day but not before a van

with its driver casually sleeping on

board blocked our passage to the

main road.

After some local banter including

several superlatives the sleepy

driver idled his truck off to the side

and hooray, on our way.

Warmly greeted with a huge

beaming smile by our boatman Mr

Tuan who looked so proud of his

recently painted vessel sparkling in

the morning sunshine.

Not before long we pushed off

with our first stop still unsure as

Jerry and Mr Tuan debated the

best route to take based on the

conditions of the day.

After judgement was complete,

around to the east Jerry hollered

as our boatman gleefully with

beaming smile steered his prize in

said direction, this wasn’t the usual

route Jerry suggested, we were in

for a “real treat” today!

With the kind of long tail boat we

were on getting up close up to the

islands in very shallow waters was a

true highlight, surrounded by nature

so real you could almost touch it.

The soaring of eagles above

was a common sight as we stared

across the horizon waiting to

capture that next moment of

Mother Nature as it arrives.

We stopped by a local floating

fish farm, as we clambered onto

the rickety bamboo structure we

could see many different species

and sizes of fish and shellfish all

penned in an area below, here we

picked up a local delicacy to try,

Sea Urchins!

The Sea Urchins I have to say we

very tasty and accompanied by the

chilli, salt style sauce with crushed

peanuts made it a delight!

Our next stop words couldn’t

describe really and you can’t make

it up, jumping off the boat into the

turquoise waters and swimming in

to a deserted white beach…..just

incredible!

Lazing on this amazing beach

we considered what our friends

and family back home would think

of this moment, lucky to be alive

and to be here for sure was the

consensus, something one must

do once in their lifetime, living the

dream!

We continued onto another

island and round a rocky point

where the depth went down to

about 20 metres, which Jerry

explained you could liken to a small

under water canyon.

The current was quite strong as

we passed the open waters admiring

the incredible rock formations under

the sea with the some fantastic

hard and soft corals with occasional

schools of coral fish shooting by, we

also saw some Giant Clams!

Time had passed and reluctantly

we have to depart this paradise so

soon enough we were headed back

towards what can only be described

as reality, however the feeling with

nature I experienced today will

change my outlook forever, do it

while you can!

Khám Phá Thiên Đường Ở Nam Đảo

Chúng tôi thưởng thức cà phê

sáng ở Quán Buddy và ngồi đợi

tài xế đến đón để đi Nam Đảo.

Anh Tài, người tài xế của ngày

hôm nay thường đúng giờ nhưng

hôm nay anh đến muộn 20 phút.

Chúng tôi cười đùa anh sử dụng

giờ “dây thun” của đảo! Ngày hôm

nay, chúng tôi sẽ đi An Thới và trải

nghiệm các hòn ngoài khơi ở vùng

biển phía Nam. Dù có vài chuyện

vặt trên đường nhưng cuối cùng

chúng tôi cũng đến được cầu tàu

và được anh Tuấn, người điều khiển

chiếc tàu vừa mới sơn lại của mình

đón tiếp nồng nhiệt.

Khi tàu rời bến, anh Jerry và anh

Tuấn bắt đầu thảo luận về hành

trình tốt nhất để khám phá các hòn

đảo trong điều kiện thời tiết hiện

tại. Jerry khuyên đi sang phía Đông

để có một hành trình tốt nhất dù

ít người đi cung đường này. Jerry

nhấn mạnh chúng ta sẽ có những

điều thú vị hôm nay.

Con tàu tiến về các hòn đảo. Một

vùng nước trong xanh và khá cạn

đến nỗi bạn có thể chạm vào thiên

nhiên bên dưới. Trong khoảnh khắc

chờ đón để đắm mình với mẹ thiên

nhiên, chúng tôi nghe tiếng rầm rú

của những chú chim đại bàn đang

sải cách trên bầu trời.

Tàu dừng lại ở một bè nuôi cá.

Bước lên bè tre lắc lư, chúng tôi nhìn

thấy vô số loài cá, ghẹ, tôm được

thả bên dưới và sau đó là thưởng

thức món đặc sản nhum biển ngay

nơi này. Món nhum được nước lên,

ăn kèm với sốt ớt cay và đậu phộng

thật tuyệt vời.

Điểm dừng tiếp theo là một hòn

đảo nhỏ có khung cảnh như thiên

đường, đẹp đến nổi không thể mô

tả bằng lời. Chúng tôi nhảy khỏi tàu

hoà mình xuống dòng nước biển

trong vắt và bãi cát trắng mịn. Thả

mình trên bãi biển thiên đường này,

chúng tôi nghĩ đến gia đình và bạn

bè chắc chắc cũng có một mơ ước

được được đắm mình tại nơi này ít

nhất một lần trong đời. Một thiên

đường thật sự.

Rời bãi biển thiên đường, chúng

tôi tiếp tục khám phá những hòn đảo

khác có nhiều mỏm đá xung quanh,

có nơi sâu đến 20m. Jerry giải thích

nó giống như một dòng sông bên

dưới. Dòng nước khá mạnh. Chúng

tôi bơi qua nó để khám phá những

tảng đá kỳ bí dưới biển và tận mắt

ngắm nhìn từng đàn cá bơi lội quanh

rặng san hô nhiều màu đẹp lung linh.

Chúng tôi cũng nhìn thấy cả những

con ngêu biển khổng lồ dưới các rạn

san hô này.

Thời gian trôi nhanh, chúng tôi

phải rời khỏi thiên đường để trở về

nhà nhưng chắc chắc những trải

nghiệm hôm nay với mẹ thiên nhiên

sẽ làm thay đổi cái nhìn của tôi mãi

mãi. Bạn hãy đến đây để có một

kỷ niệm không thể nào quên trong

cuộc đời của mình.

Beaches

A quick reference guide to the Islands best beaches

to get the most out of your holiday in the sun!

You may well be staying on a stunning beach at

your resort or hotel but with hundreds of

kilometers of coastline waiting to be

explored, Phu Quoc’s crying out for some sandbased

discovery!

Phu Quoc not only has some of the best beaches in

Vietnam but is the only place in the country that faces

west for magnificent sunset views.

Generally, the better beaches are to be found on

the west coast where Long Beach dominates the

scene stretching for over 20 km’s and though it’s very

developed in some parts you can still find a deserted

patch here and there.

My top recommendation on the west coast for total

seclusion is the southern end of Vung Bau beach (just

before Fusion resort) here you can find an amazing

stretch of beach and wont see too many folk unless it’s a

Sunday, you can reach it by car or motorbike.

It’s a bit of a trip but if you long for a day on a


deserted beach, pack some lunch and plenty of water

for a great adventure where you will drown in serenity!

Of course I couldn’t go on without mentioning a

couple of pretty impressive beaches on the South

Eastern side of the Island.

Sao beach though currently a little localized is still

highly recommended for a visit, a beautiful white sand

beach with lots of restaurants to choose from, it can

get busy with groups and jetskis in places but at the

northern end you can find plenty of quiet space.

Then at the next bay there is the equally beautiful

and incredibly kept Khem beach, home of the 5 star

JW Marriott, if you feel like lapping up some luxury this

is certainly the right place.

Of course some beaches are a little harder to get

to than others but all of the beaches in Phu Quoc are

worth visiting, whether it’s perfect warm clear water for

swimming and snorkeling, small local seafood or BBQ

joints or just the simple pleasures of a deserted white

sand beach.

Phu Quoc not only

has some of the best

beaches in Vietnam

but is one of the only

places that faces west

for magnificent sunset

views, in fact it’s the

only west facing sunset

Có thể nói, Phú Quốc không chỉ có những bãi biển đẹp

nhất Việt Nam mà còn là một trong những điểm có hướng

Tây để ngắm hoàng hôn tuyệt với nhất. Nhìn chung, các

bãi biển đẹp nhất đều nằm ở phía Tây với Bãi Trường trải

dài hơn 20km. Dù bãi biển này đang dày đặc các công

trình xây dựng nhưng bạn vẫn có thể tìm được những bãi

tắm còn khá hoang sơ.

Điểm tuyệt vời nhất để ngắm hoàng hôn là bãi Vũng

Bầu (ngay trước Fusion resort). Nơi đây bạn có thể tận

hưởng bờ biển hoang sơ, thơ mộng và rất vắng người. Bạn

có thể đến Vũng Bầu bằng xe taxi hoặc xe gắn máy. Nếu

bạn dành cả ngày thư giãn trên bãi biển hoang vắng này

As the name suggests this is the longest beach and

is situated on the west side of the island where most

of the Hotels, Resorts, Restaurants & Bars are located.

You will find some parts totally deserted and to

yourself, while in the main areas it can be busy with

plenty of eating & drinking options and a great place

to party the night away.

If you are looking for that perfect sunset cocktail just

about anywhere along the main part of Long Beach is

a great place to perch yourself with the camera at the

ready!

Sao Beach

Located in the southeast corner of the island is Phu

Quoc’s most beautiful beach and probably one of the

better beaches in Vietnam. Now at the cross roads of

massive resort development, the beach in recent times has

become quite localized so don’t be surprised to find jet

skis and rowdy tourist groups in the main area, either end

of the beach is still relatively peaceful and worth a visit.

Thật sự là viên ngọc quý nằm ở phía Đông Nam của đảo.

Bãi Sao là bãi biển đẹp nhất của Phú Quốc và là một trong

những bãi biển đẹp nhất Việt Nam. Thời gian gần đây,

Bãi Sao phát triển quá nhanh, ít nhiều mất đi sự yên tĩnh

và tính địa phương, vì vậy bạn sẽ thấy rất nhiều các đoàn

khách lớn đến đây tắm biển ở khu công cộng. Tuy nhiên,

khu vực này vẫn còn những nơi yên tĩnh xứng đáng để bạn

khám phá.

Cua Can Beach

Located on the north west coast 10km from Duong Dong

town and close to Cua Can village lies this quiet deserted

beach with a beautiful river estuary. Its best accessed by

boat but if you try you can find your way by trails to the

beach, once you find it though you will rarely see a soul

here! If you travel further just north of Cua Can (just past

Chez Carole resort) you can find spectacular views of the

beaches and estuary below.

Nằm ở phía Tây Bắc, cách Thị trấn Dương Đông khoảng

10km. Đây là bãi biển hoang sơ, tĩnh lặng với vùng cửa

sông trù phú và xinh đẹp thuộc xã Cửa Cạn. Cách tốt nhất

để đến bãi biển này là bằng thuyền. Tuy nhiên, bạn vẫn có

thể đi theo các con đường mòn để ra bãi biển. Nếu bạn đi

hướng về phía Bắc (qua khỏi Chez Carole resort) bạn sẽ

thấy một khung cảnh ngoạn mục gồm bãi biển trải dài và

cửa sông phía dưới.

An Thoi Archipelago

Just off the southern tip of Phu Quoc is the An Thoi

Archipelago, a group of 14 islands brimming with amazing

deserted beaches, colorful coral reefs, colonies of diverse

fish species and amazing bird life.

Be sure you get to Fingernail Island at the southern end,

with the boat anchored swim in to its gorgeous beach and

you will feel like Robinson Crusoe for the day!

You can also enjoy a fantastic a seafood lunch at May

Rut Island where the guy takes you out on a rickety

polystyrene makeshift raft to a large net with all the live

catch of the day, just pick out what you want and island

time will determine its arrival!

Chỉ cách mũi phía Nam An Thới khoảng 30 phút đi thuyền

là cụm đảo Hòn Thơm với hơn 14 hòn đảo nhỏ. Tại đây có

nhiều bãi biển hoang sơ, rất thơ mộng, có nhiều rặng san

hô đủ màu sắc và sự đa dạng của các loài thủy sản và chim

biển để bạn khám phá. Khi đến đây, đừng bỏ lỡ dịp trải

nghiệm cảm giác đặc biệt ở hòn Móng Tay. Hãy neo thuyền

lại ngoài khơi và bơi vào bãi biển tuyệt vời này, bạn sẽ có

một ngày trải nghiệm như Robinson trên đảo hoang khi

xưa! Và cũng đừng quên thưởng thức buổi tiệc nướng hải

sản tươi ngon và bia lạnh trên hòn Mây Rút.

Ong Lang Beach

Bãi Ông Lang

A beautiful long stretch of beach, only 6km from Duong

Dong town, protected from the currents and waves at one

end by a rocky point and is a great beach to visit. In recent

times this area has boomed and you will find many resorts

both on and near the beach (depending on your budget)

and at night the main road is bustling with small bars &

restaurants.

If you just wanted to access the beach, you can try the

road before the main turn off to Ong Lang and head to

the end where there is a small local café on one side and

the Dinh Ba temple on the other.

Nằm cách Dương Đông 6km. Bãi biển tuyệt vời này có hình

cánh cung, ít sóng, có nhiều hòn đá ở đầu bãi biển phía

Dinh Bà. Trong thời gian gần đây, khu vực này đã bùng nổ

các khu nghỉ mát xây dựng gần bãi biển và dọc các tuyến

đường. Buổi tối, khu Ông Lang nhộn nhịp với quán bar, nhà

hàng.



Remember:

Leave valuables safely at your hotel when visiting isolated beaches. If

you’re travelling on your own it’s advisable to let someone at your hotel

know where you’re going and its handy to always keep the hotels business

card with you to easily find your way back!

bảo tồn Dugong) đi thẳng 1km là tới. Nơi đây không chỉ

đến tắm biển, bạn còn có thể viếng Dinh Bà, một ngôi đền

khá nổi tiếng tại Phú Quốc.

Ganh Dau Beach

Bãi Gành Dầu

On the top northwest side of the island lies the sleepy area

of Ganh Dau and home to the magnificent Nguyễn Trung

Trực temple. Just as you enter the village keep to the left

and follow it to the coast where you’ll find this small quiet

beach with crystal clear waters to cool off in and great

views of the southern Cambodian coastline.

You can also venture to the north coast of Ganh Dau

where you will find a handful of beachside resorts with

nice views, you can laze the day while enjoying some

great food in a very peaceful setting.

Phía cực Bắc của đảo là vùng biển Gành Dầu thơ mộng,

nơi có đền thờ anh hùng dân tộc Nguyễn Trung Trực.

Trước khi tới xã Gành Dầu, chỉ cần rẽ trái bạn sẽ thấy một

bãi biển nhỏ, nước trong như pha lê và có thể nhìn về phía

Nam vùng duyên hải của nước bạn Campuchia.

Nếu mạo hiểm hơn chút bạn đến bờ biển phía bắc của

Gành Dầu, nơi bạn sẽ tìm thấy một số khu nghỉ mát ngay

sát bãi biển với tầm nhìn rất đẹp. Bạn có thể thư giãn cả

ngày và thưởng thức một số món ăn ngon trong khung

cảnh yên bình tại đây.

Vung Bau Beach

Bãi Vũng Bầu

Located on the northwest coast about 5km past Cua Can

lies this beautiful half moon bay and beach that stretches

quite are a way, this would be my top getaway choice but

to be alone you need to stick to the southern end where

there are no resorts.

On the northern end a handful of resorts and a great spot

for taking a lunch, swimming or snorkeling and perfect to

take out a small kayak or SUP for a run.

Cửa Cạn. Vũng Bầu là một vịnh rất đẹp, có bãi biển trải dài.

Nếu bạn muốn một không gian yên bình hãy đến phía Nam

của vịnh, nơi còn rất hoang vắng. Ở phía Bắc vịnh có một

số khu resort tuyệt đẹp bạn có thể dừng lại cho bữa trưa,

bơi lội, lặn biển hoặc chèo thuyền khám phá vịnh. .

In the southeast corner of the island you will find one

of the most beautiful well-kept beaches on the Island

and certainly worth a visit even if only for a lunch. The

impressive 5 star JW Marriott is located here. Though the

price is high end, if you are looking to treat yourself it's

worth a day here relaxing on their amazing beach with

some top quality food & beverages on offer.

as such but well worth visiting with awesome views across

the water to Southern Cambodia. It's here you can access

abundant export quality

seafood, Phu Quoc also

produces world-class fish

sauce and pepper, so much so it’s

become a thriving industry.

In more recent years other cottage

industries have also popped up

producing many products locally such

as sim berry, rice & herb wine, honey,

draught beer, organic salads and

vegetables just to name a few.

The top products of the Island

though are certainly the Fish Sauce

and Pepper.

Whilst you can't take the fish sauce

with you by air (it costs a lot of money

to fumigate a plane from just one

sauce spillage!) you should not forget

to purchase some pepper to take

home!


PHU QUOC FISH SAUCE

It took me a long time to come to

grips with it, usually flaunted under

my nose and just the smell alone,

there was no way I was going to taste

this stuff.

One day though I took the plunge

without the thought of a sniff. You

know what it was amazing and from

that day on fish sauce become a part

of my daily diet!

The French champagne of fish

sauces – it’s intense, it’s rich, and

comes from perhaps the most famous

region in the world for fish sauce, yes I

am talking about Phu Quoc Island!

Success of its world-class quality is

partly due to the local seawater, which

is rich in plankton and nutrients that

nourish the growth of the anchovies,

the main ingredient of the sauce.

Phu Quoc fish sauce is made

from these freshly caught anchovies

then fermented in wooden barrels

for 1 year while blended with salt to

Phú Quốc được được biết đến

Once dried, they are then packaged

and ready to go, most of the pepper

farms you can visit will sell their

product directly to you or you can

find many stores in town selling local

pepper.

What makes it so good?

PHU QUOC PEPPER

Often described as the “king of

spices,” it shares second place on most

dinner tables with its big brother, salt,

but in this part of the world it comes

first!

Producing over 1,000 tons of

quality black pepper each year, you’ll

find pepper plantations around most

parts of Phu Quoc Island all well worth

a visit.

This stuff is No.1 export quality

and great to take home whether for

your own table or to share with your

friends and family. My friends back

home have become addicted and are

disappointed if I turn up without any

pepper!

When peppercorns are ripe, they

are collected and divided into 3 kinds:

Black pepper (most common),

White pepper and Red pepper after

picked are set for drying in the sun

usually on a straw mat near to the

family home.

Phu Quoc Pepper is especially

famous for its heat, pungency

and strong aroma, the Red

peppercorns particularly have a

flavor kick you will never forget!

Hồ tiêu Phú Quốc được đánh giá

Phu Quoc - Toward a

plastic waste-free island

Long celebrated as the “Pearl Island”

(Hòn đảo ngọc) of Vietnam, Phu

Quoc in recent years faces a severe

crisis: WASTE!


THE SITUATION

As 200 tons of waste is produced

daily and still increasing, the largest

island in Vietnam finds itself inundated

with overwhelming waste, especially

plastic waste, the consequences are

overtly visible.

Visit any public beach that is not

managed by a private resort, one can

easily spot patches of plastic bags

floating among the waves, or bits and

pieces of Styrofoam boxes and plastic

containers beached in the sand. Stand

on Nguyen Trung Truc Bridge and

overlook the Duong Dong River below,

one can observe a stream of assorted

waste dumped by locals and following

the river current heading out to the

sea.

Driving to the north west of the Island

one has to pass the infamous open

landfill dump right by the road, this

has grown into a small hill and covered

by a temporary fence to take it out of

obvious view.

This waste situation is not only

impacting the tourism business on

the island but also damaging precious

native marine ecosystems, including

the seagrass beds, which are essential

habitat for blue swimming crabs—a

valuable main source of income for

many local fishermen communities on

the island.

LOOKING TO THE WAY FORWARD

To help protecting the native

environment is to address the plastic

waste issues, hence the Phu Quoc—

Toward a plastic waste-free island

project.

Sponsored by USAID and

implemented by WWF-Vietnam, this

project is working with many different

stakeholders: local government,

schools, local communities and

businesses who are expected to

cooperate with each other within a

public-private partnership platform to

reduce single-use plastic, and toward

a plastic waste-free island.


In engaging local government,

the project is working with the

District’s People Committee to

commit the whole island to reduce

single-use plastic.

Over 60 teachers and school

representatives from more than 30

schools have attended a two-day

training on plastic waste and have

begun adopting plastic-reducing

practices into the schools’ policies.

Two villages adjacent to the

seagrass beds—Da Chong in Bai

Thom commune and Bai Bon in Ham

Ninh commune—are setting up a

better waste management system

where plastic waste is separated

and better collected, reducing

the chances of discharging waste

directly into the ocean.

Businesses also play a pivotal

role in the project. With technical

support from WWF-Vietnam,

businesses are exploring ways to

reduce single-use plastic in their

daily operation. Effective practices

like removing plastic straws, using

refillable dispensers for shampoo,

replacing plastic packaging, using

glass bottles, separating waste etc.

are being implemented by many

businesses. WWF-Vietnam hopes

to facilitate a group of businesses

committed to reduce single-use

plastic products, in which members

can advise one another and inspire

interested businesses to join. WWF-

Vietnam will also connect this group

to the local government, further

advocating for collaboration among

different stakeholders to tackle the

plastic waste issue together.

IN CONCLUSION

At the time of writing this article, 11

businesses in Phu Quoc have officially

agreed to participate in this project.

With the support from Visit Phu

Quoc (visitphuquoc.info), WWF-Vietnam

hopes to map out these businesses, so

any tourist who wants to support the

plastic-reducing cause can check out

these businesses and spread the word.

We hope this is an encouragement

for participating businesses to continue

reducing plastics, and for new businesses

to join.

Từ lâu được biết đến là Hòn đảo

ngọc của Việt Nam, trong những

năm gần đây Phú Quốc đang

phải đối mặt với cơn khủng

hoảng nghiêm trọng: RÁC THẢI

CHUYỆN GÌ ĐANG DIỄN RA

Có thể thấy rõ chuyện gì sẽ xảy ra

khi hòn đảo lớn nhất Việt Nam dần

ngập trong rác thải, đặc biệt là rác thải

nhựa từ 200 tấn chất thải rắn sinh hoạt

được thải ra mỗi ngày.

Ghé thăm bất kỳ bãi biển công

cộng nào mà không được quản lý bởi

một khu nghỉ mát tư nhân, người ta có

thể dễ dàng nhìn thấy bọc nilon trôi

nổi giữa những con sóng, thùng xốp

hoặc các mảnh vụn của hộp xốp nằm

trên cát. Đứng trên cầu Nguyễn Trung

Trực nhìn xuống sông Dương Đông ở

bên dưới, người ta có thể thấy rác thải

ra bởi người dân địa phương trôi thành

dòng và theo sông chảy ra biển. Lái xe

về phía Tây Bắc của đảo người ta phải

đi qua bãi rác lộ thiên ngay bên đường,

nó đã chất cao như một ngọn đồi nhỏ

và được che chắn lại bởi các tấm tôn

để người đi đường không thể nhìn vào

bên trong.

Vấn đề rác thải không chỉ ảnh

hưởng đến hoạt động kinh doanh du

lịch trên đảo mà còn phá hủy hệ sinh

thái biển độc đáo quý giá của Phú

Quốc, bao gồm cả thảm cỏ biển – là

môi trường sống thiết yếu cho ghẹ

xanh – nguồn thu nhập chính của nhiều

cộng đồng ngư dân địa phương trên

đảo.

TÌM KIẾM GIẢI PHÁP CHO TƯƠNG

Để giúp bảo vệ môi trường vốn có

của Phú Quốc, vấn đề rác thải nhựa

cần phải được giải quyết. Vì vậy, dự án

‘Phú Quốc – Hướng tới hòn đảo không

rác thải nhựa’ ra đời. Được tài trợ bởi

USAID và được thực hiện bởi WWF-

Việt Nam, dự án đang phối hợp với

các bên liên quan như chính quyền và

cộng đồng địa phương, trường học, và

doanh nghiệp nhằm xây dựng một nền

tảng hợp tác công tư để các bên liên

quan có thể cùng nhau thực hành giảm

thiểu nhựa sử dụng một lần và hướng

tới một hòn đảo không rác thải nhựa.

Để thu hút chính quyền địa phương,

dự án đang hợp tác với Ủy ban Nhân

dân Huyện để cam kết giảm thiểu các

sản phẩm nhựa dùng một lần trên toàn

bộ đảo. Hơn 60 giáo viên và đại diện

trường học từ hơn 30 trường đã tham

gia khóa tập huấn hai ngày về rác thải

nhựa, từ đó áp dụng những biện pháp

giảm nhựa vào các chính sách và hoạt

động của trường. Dự án cũng đang

thiết lập hệ thống quản lý và phân loại

chất thải rắn tại hai ấp nằm cạnh thảm

cỏ biển - ấp Đá Chồng ở xã Bãi Thơm

và ấp Bãi Bổn ở xã Hàm Ninh để giải

quyết dứt điểm tình trạng phát sinh rác

thải nhựa ra môi trường biển tại hai ấp

này, nơi chưa có hệ thống thu gom và

phân loại rác thải.

Các doanh nghiệp cũng đóng một

vai trò quan trọng trong dự án. Với

sự hỗ trợ kỹ thuật từ WWF-Việt Nam,

các doanh nghiệp đang tìm cách giảm

thiểu các sản phẩm nhựa sử dụng một

lần trong hoạt động hàng ngày. Các

biện pháp hiệu quả như loại bỏ ống

hút nhựa, sử dụng chai lớn đựng dầu

gội để tái sử dụng thay cho gói dầu

gội dùng một lần, sử dụng chai thủy

tinh, phân loại chất thải v.v ... đang

được nhiều doanh nghiệp thực hiện.

WWF-Việt Nam hy vọng có thể tạo

ra một diễn đàn chung cho nhóm các

doanh nghiệp cam kết giảm thiểu các

sản phẩm nhựa dùng một lần, trong đó

các thành viên có thể tư vấn cho nhau

và truyền cảm hứng cho các doanh

nghiệp quan tâm tham gia. WWF-Việt

Nam cũng sẽ kết nối nhóm này với

chính quyền địa phương, tiếp tục ủng

hộ sự hợp tác giữa các bên liên quan

để giải quyết vấn đề rác thải nhựa cùng

nhau.

Tại thời điểm viết bài này, 11 doanh

nghiệp tại Phú Quốc đã chính thức

đồng ý tham gia dự án.

Freedom

of the sea

Floating restaurantsare popping

up everywhere, what started in

the far north a few years ago

has continued all along the north

east coast with a range of places

offering that “off land” experience!

In some cases you would be

picked up by small boat and

whisked out a few hundred meters

offshore to a wooden platform

surrounded by pens of freshly

caught fish and shellfish or you

would simply walk a few hundred

metres along a rickety wooden pier.

Both of these experiences not

only offer stunning sea views but

they also giving one that feeling of

freedom, being all out at sea I say.

So we piled in the car and

headed off to a tiny town in the

north of the island called Rach Vem

in search of our sea freedom, it took

us about 40 minutes from Duong

Dong town and we were there.

Rach Vem is as rural as a

beachside village could be, dusty

paths with locals playing cards

wherever they could find shade and

chickens pecking away in search

of something nourishing, not much

going on really and we loved it.

We navigated our way along

a narrow path, thru some sort of

doorway with corrugated iron

hanging down looked a bit dodgy

and emerged in the warming

sunlight on the other side to make

our way along a rickety pier for

about 100 or so metres.

It was here there was a bridge

we nick named the “Golden Gate”

due to its (albeit miniature) liking

to the one in San Francisco, we

clambered over her finally making

it to our destination.

Here we were, only a few

hundred metres offshore yet

somehow immediately switched

off from the battles of the land

and focused on that freedom of

the sea!

Tranquillity on water with

amazingly fresh seafood that we

could even see through the glass

table down through to the sea

below, a great selection of all sorts

of live fish and shell fish cooked

however you liked!

With cold drinks in hand we

celebrated the feeling of being

immersed in the nature of the sea

yet somehow being in a restaurant!

The food that came out was

amazing and served with all

kinds of condiments on the side

that would suit any taste, not

much talking was going on as we

devoured our fresh catch imagining

the life at sea.

Rach Vem is situated on the

northern coast of Phu Quoc,

approximately 40km from Duong

Dong town and 10km from Ganh

Dau, on this day we went to Quoc

Thai restaurant but most of the

restaurants are very similar so take

your pick!

nước. Chúng tôi đã thực hiện một

chuyến đi đến Rạch Vẹm để có một

trãi nghiệm tự do giữa trùng khơi.

Rạch Vẹm là một làng chài nhỏ

ở phía Bắc đảo, nằm cách thị trấn

Dương Đông khoảng 40 phút lái xe.

Xuyên qua con đường đất đỏ, bạn

sẽ gặp nếp sống nông thôn yên bình

tại đây. Những vườn tiêu xanh mướt,

đàn gà tung tăng kiếm mồi giữa

trưa, vài người tụm lại dưới bóng cây

để chơi bài hay chơi cờ. Không có

nhiều điều đặc biệt nhưng chúng tôi

thật sự yêu quý vẻ yên bình thảnh

thơi ấy.

Chúng tôi đi theo một con đường

nhỏ, băng qua khu nhà dân có vách

tole để đến cầu tàu gỗ dài hơn

100m. Chúng tôi gọi nó là “cầu cổng

vàng” mặc dù nhỏ bé nhưng trông

giống như chiếc cầu nổi tiếng ở San

Francisco (Mỹ). Chúng tôi đi đến

cuối cầu để lên tàu nhỏ ra nhà bè.

Chỉ vài trăm mét chúng tôi đã thấy

mình bỏ xa bờ và cảm nhận được sự

tự do giữa mênh mông biển trời.

Tự Do Giữa Biển Khơi

Biển trong xanh yên bình, hải sản

tươi ngon, đồ uống được ướp lạnh

và thậm chí chúng tôi còn có thể

nhìn thấy thế giới dưới nước qua

chiếc bàn kính. Một cảm giác vô

cùng tự do, thư thái khi đắm mình

giữa thiên nhiên!

Đường Đến Rạch Vẹm?

Rạch Vẹm nằm ở phía Bắc đảo,

cách thị trấn Dương Đông khoảng

40km và cách Gành Dầu khoảng

10km. Chúng tôi đã trải nghiệm khu

này tại nhà hàng Quốc Thái. Ở đây

còn có nhiều nhà hang khác cũng

phục vụ đưa đón và hải sản tươi

Amazing Phu Quoc

Geography & Climate

Topographically varied, Phu Quoc

Island offers the visitor an array of

landscapes, ranging from sandy

beaches to forested mountains,

river plains and smaller islets

surrounding it which make up an

archipelago of 14 islands to the

south.

In the center and south much

of the original lowland tropical

evergreen forest cover has been

cleared leaving behind a mix of

agricultural and secondary forest

landscapes and a variety of rural

settlements.

These areas contrast with

denser and more extensive

national park rainforest areas to

the north, where the scenery of

natural coastline and rivers at their

peak and during May to October

are stunningly beautiful.

Ecology & Environment

Phu Quoc is a very mountainous

and densely forested Island with

a total of 99 mountain peaks from

the smallest of less than 100m to

the largest 603 metres.

Situated in the North and

North-East of the Island is the Phu

Quoc National Park which covers

approx.31,000 ha of land that

accounts for more than 50% of the

total area of the Island!

The topography of the national

park is hilly though its not particularly

steep with the highest point being

Mount Chua at 603m.

The park is drained by numerous,

mainly seasonal streams leading to the

Cua Can river, which in turn drains out

of the southern part of the national

park and flows into the sea on the

west coast at Cua Can.

In terms of flora, the National Park

is an ideal natural environment for

plant species with approx. 13,000 ha

of lowland evergreen forest equivalent

to almost 40% of the total area of the

park.

To date approx. 929 plant species

have been recorded and at lower

elevations in some areas of the

national park are distinctive formations

of Melaleuca – beautiful evergreen

trees that are alternately arranged in

dark green and grey-green colors.

Regards to fauna, there are approx.

43 mammal species and among

those recorded species 6 are listed as

endangered by Governmental Decree,

they are;

Silvered Langur, Slow Loris, Pygmy

Loris, Crab-eating Macaque, Stumptailed

Macaque, Small-clawed Otter.

The park has approx 84 bird, 29

reptile and 11 amphibian species, in the

sea around the Island there are approx.

125 species of fish, a staggering 132

species of Mollusk (a phylum of softbodied

invertebrate or Shellfish) and

62 species of Seaweed.

Another point of interest in Phu

Quoc is the islands native Dog, this

dog was originally a wild animal and

later trained as a hunting dog by the

local people.

These dogs have unusually sharp teeth

(as they tear their food when they eat

it rather than bite) and have claws that

over the years have been conditioned

for catching their prey and are razor

sharp, though in saying this generally

“their bark is worse than their

bite!”

These days they are very

domesticated and it’s hard to go

anywhere without seeing one!

Sinh thái & Môi trường

Phú Quốc là một hòn đảo có mật

độ che phủ rừng cao và dày đặc với

tổng số 99 đỉnh núi có độ cao từ

100m đến 603m.

Nằm ở phía Bắc và Đông Bắc Đảo

là Vườn Quốc gia Phú Quốc có diện

tích khoảng 31.000 ha, chiếm hơn

50% tổng diện tích của đảo!

Địa hình chính của vườn quốc gia

là đồi núi với đỉnh núi chúa có chiều

cao 603m.

Vườn quốc gia Phú Quốc có nhiều

con suối chảy theo mùa đổ ra sông

Cửa Cạn theo hướng Nam rồi đổ ra

biển ở hướng Tây.

Về mặt thực vật, Vườn Quốc gia là

môi trường tự nhiên lý tưởng cho các

loài thực vật với khoảng 13.000 ha

rừng thường xanh thấp, tương đương

với gần 40% tổng diện tích của vườn.

Đến nay đã ghi nhận được 929

loài thực vật ở các độ cao thấp khác

nhau, đặc biệt là cây tràm với màu

xanh xám đặc trưng.

Thiên nhiên Phú Quốc

Về động vật, có khoảng 43 loài

động vật có vú, trong đó có 6 loài

được liệt kê là có nguy cơ tuyệt

chủng cao theo Nghị định Chính

phủ.

Vườn quốc gia còn có khoảng

84 con chim, 29 loài bò sát và 11

loài lưỡng cư. Khu bảo tồn biển

xung quanh đảo có khoảng 125

loài cá, 132 loài động vật thân mềm

(loài động vật không xương sống

mềm hoặc động vật có vỏ) và 62

loài rong biển.Một điểm đáng quan

tâm nữa của Phú Quốc là loài chó

xoáy bản địa, chó xoáy này ban

đầu là động vật hoang dã ở rừng

Phú Quốc sau đó được người dân

địa phân nuôi, thuần chủng và

đào tạo để trở thành chó săn mồi.

Những con chó xoáy Phú Quốc

có răng sắc bén, móng vuốt dài,

chân có màng để có thể săn mồi

cả ở dưới nước. Ngày nay, chó xoáy

được nuôi ở nhà rất nhiều và bạn

dễ dàng bắt gặp chúng khắp nơi

trên đảo.

Banks and ATMs

There are lots of banks in Duong Dong and over the

counter transactions or ATMs can be easily found in

and around town, once out of town there are not too

many options so make sure when heading out for a

day trip that you are cashed up!

Sacombank are by far the best for ‘over the

counter’ transactions but all banks will accept Visa,

MasterCard and AMEX, be sure to bring your ID card

or passport along as you will need ID.

Bank Opening hours 7.30am-11.30am & 1.30pm-

5.30pm.

Most overseas visitors find ATMs are the most

convenient and affordable ways to access cash and in

Duong Dong town or along Tran Hung Dao St on the

way out of town they can be found easily.

For money transfers try Western Union at the Kien

Long Bank at 139 30/4 street OR Agribank at the

corner of Tran Hung Dao and 30/4 street.

Post & Telecommunications Services

The main post office on 30/4 Street in Duong Dong town

sells stamps for sending or receiving postcards, letters or

packages within Vietnam or internationally.

Phone cards and pre-paid SIMs are available at many

shops around Duong Dong town. And if you’re staying for

an extended period in Vietnam you may want to consider

buying a SIM card.

You need to register using your ID card or passport as

ID but ‘pay as you go’ top-up fees are very low and can

include

4G data packages (around $5 for 30 days mobile data)

The two most popular carriers are Mobifone and

Viettel, both offer full coverage all over Vietnam.

Có rất nhiều phòng giao dịch của các ngân hàng tại thị

trấn Dương Đông, nơi bạn dễ dàng tìm thấy các máy

rút tiền tự động ATM. Tuy nhiên, nếu đi xa ra khỏi thị

trấn bạn cần chuẩn bị sẵn tiền mặt vì rất ít máy rút tiền

và phòng giao dịch ở vùng nông thôn.

đều chấp nhận thanh toán thẻ Visa, Master hay AMEX.

của mình ở rất nhiều shop của Dương Đông. Để mua sim

điện thoại, người nước ngoài cần mang theo hộ chiếu,

nạp tiền khoảng 100 ngàn để sử dụng dịch vụ 4G trong

30 ngày. Hai nhà mạng phổ biến hiện tại là Mobifone và

Viettel, có mức độ phủ sống rộng rãi tới tất cả các vùng

của Việt Nam.
