Solar, Jean-Christophe Puech, Clemente Pérez y Gonzalo Moyano

aprovechar las ventajas técnicas y económicas de las energías renovables;

CONOCE
A NUESTROS
SOCIOS

escuchar y entender a nuestros clientes.

GENDER IN THE ENERGY TRANSITION,
THE KEY
In the debate on gender equality. there is consensus around the need to
generate actions that accelerate the incorporation of more women and
eliminate the multiple gaps and barriers they still face within
organizations, most of all in decision-making positions, where Chilean
companies are still stagnant and in debt.
The reasons for low female participation are varied and systemic. The
care of the family, the lack of flexibility of the work system, the difficulty
of incorporating personal, work and family life conciliation practices with
co-responsibility logic and, of course, cultural factors, such as
unconscious biases and gender stereotypes, which justify traditional roles
between men and women, which influence discriminatory practices and
become enemies of the diversity.
O
PI
NION
Lilian
Denham
Executive Director
RedEG – Companies for gender
equality network
Reaching gender equity and equality represents a challenge and change
in various areas that must be faster, and for this joint work and
collaboration between the private world, the State and civil society is
essential.
The alliance between energy and government through the
Energía+Mujer program has a relevant role to play to change reality
and bet on female talent. Because if women are more than half the
population and make most household consumption decisions, it is not
logical that they are absent from the spaces where power decisions are
made.
But achieving these goals requires a business strategy that encompasses
a broad spectrum of action and is not solved by improvised measures.
Encouraging more women to study STEM-related careers, promoting
talents and empowering female leadership within organizations,
advancing institutional transparency and incorporating practices of
conciliation and co-responsibility, are determining factors in ensuing
more women can come to positions of greater responsibility and be
agents of transformation towards a more sustainable and efficient
energy industry.
International evidence has shown that organizations that have
incorporated women into decision positions have had positive impacts
on productivity, sustainability and innovation, and improve
decision-making and work climate processes, among other benefits.
Faced with the current scenario of social disruption and in the context of
"Energy Transition", this challenge takes on a special sense of urgency,
against which industry has the great opportunity to be an example of
inclusion and equality, to build together a fairer and more equitable
society for all.

NEWS
Paola Hartung is the new
Vice President of ACERA
After the renewal of the Association’s counselors that took
place in October, it was necessary to ratify who would make up
the Board of Directors, which was made by the same members
of the Council, and a woman was elected, for the first time, as
Vice-President: Paola Hartung.
"I am proud to have been elected as Vice President of a trade
association as relevant in the industry as ACERA. I am fortunate
to know the energy sector closely, I have been working both in
the public and private sectors for several years, and have been
part for more than five years of the Association’s Council, so
the result of this election is a great honor and a great
responsibility. I am very committed to ACERA's guidelines and,
in particular, to the sustainable and responsible energy
transition, and in the same vein, to the development of energy
storage," Paola Hartung said after her election.
In this way, the Board of Directors of ACERA is composed of:
José Ignacio Escobar as President, Paola Hartung as Vice
President, Manuel Tagle as Director Treasurer, Mario Manríquez
as Director Secretary, Past President Alfredo Solar, and
Jean-Christophe Puech, Clemente Pérez, Marta Alonso and
Patricia Darez as Directors.
ACERA and its companies joined the
Public-Private Plan of the Ministry of Energy
to encourage the insertion of women into
the energy sector
The Ministers of Energy, Juan Carlos Jobet, and of Women and
Gender Equity, Isabel Plá, launched a package of public-private
measures to encourage the insertion of women into the energy
sector, as part of an Action Plan developed by the Ministry of Energy
with the support of the gender technical agency of which ACERA has
been part since its inception.
The initiative was committed by 52 actors of the energy sector,
including 21 trade associations and institutions and 31 companies that
bring together 25,000 workers (11 of them members of ACERA). Some
of the commitments point to each company designing and
implementing diversity and inclusion strategies, measuring the pay
gap, and fostering female leadership.
For ACERA's Director of Communications, Fernanda Varela, who
represents the association at the gender technical table, this initiative is
a major milestone for Chile and for the energy industry. "From ACERA
we are very happy with the progress of the table. You don'talways
see concrete results in these conversation spaces, but here we
obtained clear figures, based on which we can implement
improvement actions and obtain real results, as well as a complete
work plan, with specific challenges, to which we adhere with great
satisfaction, as it is a tool that will help us to carry forward our
commitment to diversity and gender equity."
The meeting was organized within the framework of the XVI REDEG -
representatives from different masculinized industries participated. The
entity maintains a collaborative alliance with ACERA.
06.
Renewable Associations of Ibero-America
will sign commitment of clean energies in
the Energy Day of the COP
After the recent partnership signed between the Peruvian Society of
Renewable Energy (SPR) and ACERA to promote renewable energies in
their respective countries, a project was born to expand this commitment
to different renewable associations of Iberoamerica, giving rise to the
adventure of conglomerating the main associations of the region and
Spain. This latter country will assume the host role of COP 25, where
Chile maintains the presidency.
To date, there are 13 associations that have adhered to this commitment,
representing Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru,
Uruguay and Spain, who will come together to sign a Framework
Agreement, whose primary goal is to establish the main lines of
collaboration between the associations in the areas of: Promotion and
development of national regulation in each country, which is suitable to
take advantage of the technical and economic benefits of renewable
energy; Exchange of experiences and knowledge; and Develop
consultancies and studies aimed at improving the technical and
competitive conditions of renewable energies.
In this regard, José Ignacio Escobar, President of ACERA and
representative of Chile to the agreement, noted that "This is a very
important step for us. In ACERA, we have been promoting more active and
in-depth work among the different renewable associations for a while, and
this milestone, where so many associations from different countries were
brought together, is the first step in the great challenge. The planet needs a
total energy transition to achieve the global goal against global warming,
and therefore we believe the union between all nations in this ambition to
combat the climate crisis with clean energy to be fundamental."
The initiative will be part of the Energy Day program, organized by the
Ministry of Energy of Chile, and the signing will take place on December
10, 2019 at the Blue Zone of COP 25 in Madrid, Spain.
Chile is No. 1 in Latin America in the
Climatescope 2019
The Climatescope 2019 ranking, a study carried out annually by
Bloomberg News Energy Finance, positioned Chile as the country
with the most opportunities to establish renewable energy projects
in Latin America, and number two in the world, falling only behind
India.
The elements considered in the elaboration of the ranking were
economic fundamentals, opportunities and experience. Thus,
Chile's overall rating in 2019 was 2.85 versus 2.63 points in 2018.
The report considers, among all points, the main barriers of each
country to develop renewable energy successfully. In the case of
Chile, one of the main ones remains interconnection, as in 2018,
particularly interconnection to allow solar energy produced in
northern Chile to flow to the center of the country, where
population and demand are concentrated.
In this regard, the Director of Studies of ACERA, Dario Morales,
commented that "despite Chile lowering a position in the global
ranking, the fact that our country has increased its score
compared to 2018 is good news. The main increase was in the
economic fundamentals item where the country's commitment to
the establishment of concrete targets for the development of
renewable energies is highlighted."

MEET OUR
MEMBERS
Paola is a Civil Electrical Engineer from the Pontificia Universidad Católica of
Valparaiso with a Master’s Degree in Industrial Engineering. She is divorced and has
two children, with whom she likes to surf, but her greatest passion is singing.
Acera's newly elected Vice President has been in the energy industry for years,
another of her passions. "At one point in my life I understood that energy is a driver
of development, as it is a strategic industry and extremely challenging, and I like
challenges, I am not at ease in comfort zones, so I took it seriously and here I am."
Paola currently serves as Director of Regulatory Affairs in Chile and Colombia in AES
Gener, which she defines as committed to Chile. "It's a global company with diverse
teams, which enriches visions, and where the plurality of opinions and experiences is
valued. It is a company with a deep culture of tolerance and respect, which has
allowed us to be part of Great Place To Work."
How does AES Gener work?
We are committed to Chile and its energy transition, which has driven us to be the leading
company in the construction of renewable projects at the national level, with 847 MW in
construction by the end of 2019.
Paola
Hartung
Director of Regulatory Affairs
Chile and Colombia
paola.hartung@aes.com
We are diversifying our matrix with hydropower, wind and photovoltaic energy. Our project, Alto
Maipo, has an 8% advance and will be the run-of-river hydroelectric power plant that will deliver
power to the country's main consumer center. Recently, we acquired the Los Cururos Wind
Farm, one of Chile's main wind farms, and we are building two additional wind farms in
southern Chile. We are also expanding, our Andes Solar solar park in the Antofagasta region.
Which are the latest news or changes introduced by your company?
AES Gener has been a pioneer in the incorporation of new technologies in the energy industry.
We are leaders in the use of batteries and today we are adding 10 MW of storage to the existing
52 MW. These 10 MW will correspond to "Virtual Reservoir", a reservoir of energy, not water. This
technology will allow the energy generated in run-of-river power plants to be stored in a lithium
battery bank, so that it is injected into the system at peak times. This technological innovation is
unique worldwide. These advances will add sufficiency to renewable plants that otherwise could
not manage their resource.
What are the main projects - or topics – you are lately working on concerning renewable
energy?
The main renewable energy projects that we are working on are: Andes Solar II, a solar park
located in the Antofagasta region, that corresponds to the expansion of Andes Solar I and will
add 80 MW to the system; Virtual Reservoir, a dam of lithium batteries, currently under
construction, adjacent to the Alfalfal I plant in the commune of San José de Maipo, in the
Metropolitan Region; Mesamávida and Los Olmos, wind farms located in the Biobío region, that
will deliver 163 MW of renewable energy; and Alto Maipo, located in the mountain range in the
Metropolitan Region, one of the most challenging renewable energy projects being built in the
region. This run-of-river plant will have 75 kilometers of tunnels and five high mountain intakes.
The tunnels are 900 meters deep on average.
Paola believes that Chile has all the environmental conditions to facilitate the development of
clean energy. "Renewable energies will make us move towards an increasingly diverse matrix, but
to ensure their competitiveness and success they must be reinforced by storage systems and
expectations must be properly managed, since this transition must be handled in a responsible
way."
Why would you recommend being an ACERA member?
Because it is a consolidated association that has played a strategic role in putting on the table the
need for us as a country to have a diversified energy matrix, and this has to do with development,
growth and trust. Its members are represented through the Council and Directory, a human
group with the right skills, committed, dedicated and with a highly developed sense of country. It
has a genuine interest in building a better Chile, with long-term responsibility and vision.
When asked about the climate crisis that we are facing and what is her dream for 2030 Paola
says: "My renewable dream for 2030 is that our energy transition is carried out in a responsible
and sustainable way, incorporating all those elements of innovation that allow this process to be
successful".

Jean-Christophe is French, married and has two children. He studied in France and
England, is an engineer (mechanics/material science) with a Master's degree in
Technology and Innovation Management. He arrived in Chile with his family in
2013 to start the generation activities of the EDF Group in Chile, where he feels very
comfortable.
He enjoys nature, touring Chile and its wonders, listening to vinyls at home,
discovering and tasting signature wines, and talking about life with his close friends.
Why did you decide to focus your career on the energy industry?
Jean-Christophe
Puech
CEO
jcpuech@edf-re.cl
The decision was made in 1999, at the end of my studies. It was obvious to me. It was clear in
my head that energy was going to take on more and more importance on our planet. I
have never regretted my decision; it's a sector that’s in the middle of an industrial revolution,
with the advent of very competitive and clean generation technologies, combined with
increasing digitization, which opens up several opportunities and generates a lot of
intellectual stimulation.
Jean-Christophe is CEO of the EDF Group,a company whose strategy pillar is low-carbon
power generation, "CAP2030". (Check here).
"EDF Renewables is the renewable arm of the Group. With Chile's considerable potential in
renewable energy, we decided to enter this market in 2015, with our Bolero photovoltaic
project. In addition, the group's DNA has always been a concern for humans and the
environment for sustainable development."
What products or services does your company deliver?
We are dedicated to developing, building and operating wind and photovoltaic plants, with a
focus on utility scale, but also with a growing interest for small projects like PMGD and even
netbilling for the C&I segment. What we are looking for, more generally, is that our
customers benefit from the advantages of renewable energies: competitive, of fast
implementation, non-invasive, no CO2 emission or particulate matter.
Which are the latest news or changes introduced by your company?
After the start-up of our three plants last year, we started working on the development of
new projects, both wind and photovoltaic. That's why we've strengthened the team with the
addition of more expert and senior profiles. Today we are about 50 employees in the
country, including our plant operators.
What are the main projects - or topics – you have been working on that are working in
recent times?
Since 2015, we have invested and built three large plants with several partners, Chilean and
foreigners: Bolero, in the Antofagasta region (146 MWp photovoltaic),Cabo Leones I, in the
Atacama region (115 MW wind), and Santiago Solar, in the Metropolitan Region (115 MWp
photovoltaic). Since then, energy prices have fallen by a factor of 3, which forces us to be very
careful and demanding in our new developments and in the operation of the projects. I also
believe it motivates us to be creative in terms of products, business models and services. The
key, as always, is to listen and understand our customers.
Jean-Christophe is convinced that renewable energy is key to generating economic growth
in the country, to improve air quality and lower the price of electricity, both for households
and businesses, and therefore, in his opinion, they play a fundamental role in improving the
quality of life of Chileans.
He also emphasizes that "a large part of the new uses of energy (IT, cellular, electromobility,
among others) use electrical energy, which must come from renewable sources, such as
water, wind and sun. We know how important it is to reduce, strongly and quickly, greenhouse
gas emissions, including CO2. It's not an option, it's an obligation. In that respect, any new
renewable power plant that is connected to the system avoids emissions and benefits us all."
Why would you recommend being an ACERA member?
ACERA is a very friendly place, where every actor of the renovable energies can find
solutions, expertise, contacts and, also, defend common causes in an organized and
responsible way. ACERA is the association of the world of renewable energies and energy
storage. It is very comprehensive, there is a lot of diversity. It's really about bringing together
and representing Chile's renewable ecosystem.
Considering the climate crisis we are facing, what would your renewable dream be for
2030?
My dream is that the transition from fossil fuels to renewable sources is as wide and fast as
possible, in Chile and worldwide. As President Sebastián Piñera once said: "Chile is poor in
20th century energies, but rich in 21st century energies." Let us take this opportunity to allow
a country’s growth that is, both stronger and less harmful for the environment and human
beings.

ACERA Seminar:
Social Crisis and Climate Change Take Over
the Seminar "Dreaming Energy"
The event sought to emphasize the present national context
and how the climate crisis is intertwined with the current
demands of the public
The Seminar "Dreaming Energy: From Illusion to Practice" was the closure of
ACERA's #SoñemosEnergía2030 campaign under COP25. The day began with the
participation of the Minister of Energy, Juan Carlos Jobet, who appreciated that
ACERA should continue with this activity despite the cancellation of the COP25
climate summit in Chile and the social situation that the country is going through.
One of our dreamers was CNN Chile journalist and Turner's "Earth Challenge"
campaign host Paloma Avila, who was in charge of closing the campaign.
"Maintaining a seminary, in the context in which we are, is an urgent political and
ethical act. In Earth Challenge, we also decided for no reason to cancel the
environmental agenda, because both issues are completely intertwined.
Communicating is a duty of the media, but also of all sectors involved," she said.
The seminar featured different talks and panels in which Senator Felipe Kast, the
Champion of COP 25, Gonzalo Muñoz, Sara Larraín of Chile Sustentable and the
Advisor on Climate Change and Circular Economy of the World Bank, Marcelo
Mena, among others, participated. On the occasion the 30 participants of the
campaign received the digital book "30 dreams for 2030", which contains all their
dreams.
