In 1924 David Hanna Snr. started a small tailoring firm in the townland of Donegal
on Ireland’s north-west coast. Because of the decline in the market for bespoke
tailored suits he decided to specialise in the making of handcrafted hats and caps.
The very first ‘Hanna’ hat was created in 1964 and it took four and a half hours to
complete. It was called the ‘Hanna Hat’ and given the style number ‘84’.
That age-old tradition of bespoke tailoring has played a major role in the transition
to the current range of handcrafted head-wear. One only has to pick up a ‘Hanna’
hat or cap to see that the quality tailored look has been retained completely.
Hanna Hats of Donegal are unique, as all of the styles are cut to patterns designed
by Hanna Hats and assembled by hand at the factory in Donegal Town. We use the
finest Donegal tweed (pure new wool) woven exclusively for us.
