Every year, Sarah writes a love-filled
birthday letter to Izzy, her now sevenyear-old
daughter. And when she falls
pregnant with her second child, she
promises Izzy that when the new baby
arrives, life will not change, only get
better. But then, when five months
pregnant, Sarah collapses and her
future, and that of her pregnancy, is in
the hands of her husband and sister,
who don’t agree about what treatment
options the doctors offer, and the
family fights begin. Sinead Moriarty’s
tales are always heart-warming (and
sometimes heartbreaking) ... Seven
Letters is both – and thoughtprovoking,
too. Penguin, R290
she moves to a quiet village where
no-one knows her history. She’s the
until another arrives. Alice, also young
and single, moves into the house next
doesn’t trust, or even like, her much.
Even less so when Alice suggests
starting a book club, her way of
getting in with Lucy’s friends. And
Lucy’s right not to trust her. Alice has
moved into the village for just one
reason. Revenge! Once you’ve started
Good friends. True love. And all the signs of the zodiac. Those of you who enjoy
David Nicholls, Marian Keyes and Jojo Moyes are going to love Minnie Darke and
her brilliant, feel-good romantic comedy. In Star crossed, Justine Carmichael
(Sagittarius, aspiring journo and sceptic), bumps into her teenage crush Nick
Jordan (Aquarius, struggling actor and true believer) by chance. Or is it? Could it be
written in the stars? She discovers Nick relies on the astrology column published
in the magazine where she works, and makes a few adjustments to the Aquarius
horoscope, thinking it may help her love life. After all, it’s just the stars. What could
possibly go wrong? Funny, romantic ... chick-lit at its best. Penguin, R290
When new mother of twins Lauren
is woken in the middle of the night,
she hears unusual noises from the bed
alongside hers in the maternity ward.
In that half-awake, half-asleep state
new mums find themselves in, she
thinks there’s a new arrival in the ward
... another mother, apparently also
with a set of twins. Drifting in and out
of sleep she’s not sure what’s a dream
and what’s not but she’s convinced
someone is trying to steal her children,
and she locks herself and her babies in
the bathroom until the police arrive.
The next morning, DS Joanna Harper
picks up the list of overnight incidents
that have been reported, and sees the
report of an attempted abduction,
but it’s been flagged as a false alarm.
She’s told there’s no case, but Harper
feels something’s not right, so visits the
hospital anyway. She discovers no-one
believes Lauren ... but Lauren, and
soon Harper, are convinced the twins
are in real danger. Little darlings
by Melanie Golding is a haunting,
unputdownable read. Scary stuff!
The kitchen is Bianka’s holy ground. It’s
behind the stove where she lives out
her passion, finds her inner creative
force and creates meals that’ll both
surprise and satisfy your taste buds.
Bianka recently launched her own
catering company, Butter & Glaze
Catering, located at Memories 4 Ever
function venue. As the youngest of
three children and raised by only
her father, Bianka has always had
wonderful examples of how to work
hard and follow her dreams. Bianka’s
mom passed away due to cancer
when she was only 5 months old,
and she’s heard about the tales of
her mom’s amazing cooking and
love for food. She studied Hospitality
Management at the CUT’s Hotel
School, and obtained her diploma in
2017. She worked at the Conrad Pezula
i like to think of a
plate as a blank
canvas and using
the food items that i
make to colour in the
plate
Resort Hotel and Spa in Knysna, where
she learnt many wonderful things.
“This was a great learning experience
for me and also where I came to the
realisation that I want to be a business
owner. I subsequently enrolled for
the BTech Hospitality Management
Degree. The degree was conferred
upon me in 2018.”
Long story short… Bianka was
afforded the opportunity to enter
into a partnership with the owner
of the beautiful venue Memories 4
Ever, Henrihet Human. “While I was
studying, I catered for her a few times,
therefor she knew my passion lies in
food. She offered me a wonderful deal:
I would work from the venue, running
my own company, but the functions
at Memories 4 Ever would have first
priority.
“I always said to my friends that one
day I would like to have my own
coffee shop and catering business. My
dream came true a lot earlier than I
had expected. We are still working on
starting a coffee shop. Being so young,
these opportunities do not come
often. I am very excited to grow with
Memories 4 Ever in the business side
and also to have Henrihet since she is
so inspirational and a mentor for me.
We work very well together.”
The idea Bianka has for Butter & Glaze
is to be different, but in a manner that
is refreshing and that will still sit well
with people’s palettes. She happily
trades traditional “pampoenkoekies” for
a delicious pumpkin cheesecake, and
she doesn’t sacrifice freshness for taste.
“I always start prepping as close to
the function day as possible to always
serve the freshest food.”
Her interest in the culinary world
has been with her since she can
remember. “Since I grew up without
a mother, my dad always made the
easiest dishes for us. From Bovril
sandwiches to macaroni with soup
powder, but for us it was heaven. We
were invited to dinner parties often
and it was so amazing to taste the
food made by other people. I learned
that there are so many flavours out
there to experience.” She remembers
baking cakes with her grandmother on
their farm, and regularly dreamt about
different flavour combinations, which
she would test the next morning.
“I was told so many stories about my
mother and how much she loved to
cook, her recipe book collection also
gave it away. She also wanted to own
her own coffee shop and part of Butter
& Glaze is to honour her.”
For Bianka, creating beautiful, delicious
food is art. “I like to think of a plate as a
blank canvas and using the food items
that I make to colour in the plate. It is
calming and knowing that I can think
outside the box is very satisfying to
me.”
She focuses on French cuisine, mainly
because of her love for… butter! “The
French use clarified butter in their
cooking and since I studied French
cuisine, my love for it grew. I think
of French cuisine as a romantic style
of cooking, using a lot of different
flavours.”
In her quest to start her own business
at such a young age, Bianka has learnt
to be strong. “My kitchen assistant,
Willa Greyling, and I, sometimes work
till midnight to get all our dishes done.
This is still fun but can take a toll on
your body. We encourage each other
to be strong and to keep going.”
Bianka’s signature dishes include:
Her melktert cake, “It’s a perfect
combination between classic milk
tart, cinnamon and vanilla cake.” Her
chocolate carrot cake, “It’s a carrot
cake base that has more carrots in the
dough than flour… with a chocolate
cheesecake filling.” And her cheesecake,
in any way, shape or form, “Whether it
be savoury or sweet, there are so many
flavours to experiment with.”
Her knowledge of fitness nutrition
stemmed from her mother’s path with
cancer (she had cancer while pregnant
with Bianka), and Bianka’s subsequent
diagnosis of Irritable Bowl Syndrome.
“Diet and lifestyle are very important
in this regard as I get very sick when
I don’t eat according to my lifestyle.
Preparing food in a healthy way is
delicious. Since my options are limited
to certain food items, I really enjoy
playing around with flavours. This got
me into nutrition.”
Bianka’s other hobbies include wine,
wine making and good quality coffee.
She’s also into fine art and pencil
drawings.
Best food you’ve ever had: This
is a tough question, but I would
definitely say my grandmother’s
cooking, especially the lamb chops
she makes and my boyfriend’s
mother’s baked chicken and slap
chips.
…and the grossest food? Twominute
noodles, although I did not
always think that it was gross until
I’ve learned about preservatives.
tips on braaiing the perfect
steak: The quality of meat that you
buy is one of the most important
aspects. Rather buy an A-grade
steak. It is not necessary to use any
marinade, especially if you want to
taste the meat and not the sauce.
Salt and black pepper is enough.
volgende ‘n vliegavontuur gaan aanpak.”
en ‘n ‘motor-out’ beleef. Wat maak jy dan? Waar land jy?”
is onbeskryflik.
sterk wees. ‘n Mens vrees mos maklik dat iets kan skeefloop – daar is tye wat jy weet
as jy hier val, gaan jy dit nie maak nie.”
vir die Reach for a Dream-stigting.
Mix and match
These 13 items could in essence give you more than 70 outfits. For example, the snakeskin
print skirt from H&M can be worn with the trackie top, the pearl knit, the graphic T as well as
the white crochet blouse. Add the fur coat for warmth. Then play around with different shoes.
Dress up the skirt with the black boots, the sneakers for a casual look or the black pointies for an
everyday look. Add the fur coat to any of your combinations to gain 5 more looks at least. This
was just our first mix and match example with the skirt. Now replace the skirt with the snakeskin
dark denim, repeat the process and you are now nearing 50 looks. The relaxed fit zebra pants
with the all those tops and shoes and we are providing even more options. The dress can be
worn with the three pairs of shoes, as well as under the fur coat. Voila! multiple looks within your
13-piece capsule wardrobe.
What’s
up, doc?
Winter means lots of sniffles, coughs and warm chicken soup. Read here for MomDoc Dr
Chantelle van der Bijl’s insights into kids’ coughs, and look on the next page on the best places to
seek medical help.
Coughing is a healthy and important
reflex, as it removes mucous and lets air
flow more easily into the lungs.
A cough can often get worse when
a child is lying down, because the
mucous can collect at the back of
the throat. They tend to swallow the
mucous, rather than spit it out as an
adult would, which can cause an upset
stomach or nausea.
There are four types of cough: dry,
wet, croup, and whooping cough. It is
important to know what type of cough
your child has, so as to know how to
treat it or when to seek medical help.
Dry Cough
A dry cough is often caused by a viral
or bacterial infection of the upper
respiratory tract (nose and throat). It
may also be an early sign of a lower
respiratory tract infection, like bronchitis
or pneumonia. Another cause might be
asthma. It first appears as a dry nighttime
cough, and wheezing (whistling)
may be heard with breathing. Avoid
irritants, allow the child to breathe cold
air and avoid exercise.
Wet Cough
A wet cough is caused by mucous
found in the lower respiratory tract.
Common causes include viral or
bacterial infections and asthma. The
cough removes fluid from the lower
respiratory tract and opens airways.
Croup Cough
Croup is a viral infection that causes a
harsh, barking, dry cough. Croup causes
a swollen upper trachea (windpipe),
beneath the vocal cords, causing the
barking cough. Often a child with
croup may make a high-pitched sound
when breathing in or out, called stridor.
This is treatable with oral steroids and
adrenalin nebulisation administered by
your doctor.
Whooping Cough (Pertussis)
A child with Pertussis will have
symptoms of the common cold, but
gradually the cough worsens, with
severe coughing fits in rapid succession,
especially at night. After coughing, the
child takes a deep breath, causing a
“whooping” sound. This causes difficulty
breathing and cyanosis (blue lips and/
or fingers), because of a shortage of
oxygen, and can prove fatal. Pertussis
can be prevented by vaccination.
Beat the cough
General recommendations for coughing
include: drinking plenty of fluids, as
this will prevent the mucous from
thickening, and putting a humidifier in
their room as it reduces coughing.
Cough medicines have not been
proven to be that effective. There
are two types of cough medicines:
Expectorants, which help loosen
mucous and is good for a wet cough;
and cough-suppressants, which inhibit
the cough reflex for a dry cough,
especially during sleep. Do not give it
for a wet cough as the mucous needs to
be expelled. They shouldn’t be given to
children under 1 year of age.
Tiny garden tricks
If your garden is on the small side, or you only have a patio to work with, fear not! Read on for
the perfect patio and small garden plants and inspiration
We’re planting…
Petunia ‘Lightning Sky’ the latest in novelty petunias that is very hard to ignore.
The speckled and starred yellow and red-velvet petals sparkle like a firework display.
Each bloom is different, and the cooler days and nights bring out the markings.
Like the other novelty petunias, the flowers are single, with compact, neat growth
that suits smaller gardens, and spill out of containers and hanging baskets. Plants
can double-up as in indoor flower arrangement for a day or two before being
planted outdoors. They like full winter sun, well-drained soil, regular watering and
fertiliser once a month to ensure an endless supply of flowers. The other showy
petunias in the novelty range are the blue shaded ‘Night Sky’, and ‘Ink Splash’ with
‘Baby Doll’ being pink and white.
Perfect for the Patio…
Lavender ‘Avignon Early Blue’ is small
and bushy with deep blue blooms and
the strong fragrance of English lavender.
Keep flowering plants in a warm,
sheltered spot on the patio during
winter and it will continue flowering
into spring. Use the edible flowers in
cooking or baking, and to flavour sugar.
Cut off the dead blooms to encourage
new flowers. In summer it can be
planted out into the garden or into
outdoor containers. It is suitable for our
hot, dry summers, being able to tolerate
heat better than stoechas varieties.
Garden tasks for July
• Prune the roses from mid-July until
early August.
• Regularly water spring flowering
shrubs, bulbs and flowers
• Fertilise winter flowers with a liquid
fertiliser once or twice a month
• Water lawns once a month in
warmer areas.
• Protect tender plants with frost
guard cloth.
• Water flowers in containers every
second day.
• Protect conifers from conifer aphid
by spraying the stems and foliage
with an organic insecticide or use
insecticide granules sprinkled
around the base of the conifer.

partytjies gedoen – sommiges by hul eie huis en ander kere by die kliënt se huis.
wêreld se geduld as dit kom by kos.
Maritsa voeg by: “En Maradine bring die
by hierdie gier in te pas.
werk as bedryfsbestuurder by die iStore bedank.
is. Dit voel nie of mens werk as jy elke dag doen waarvoor jy lief is nie,” sê
Maradine.
verduidelik Maritsa.
Perfekte pasta
Maritsa en Maradine Whitehorn het twee smullekker pastadisse vir Get It opgetower.
Eenvoudige tangliatelle met sampioene
Gaan loer aanlyn
vir hul ravioli met
roomkaasvulsel en
tamatiesousresep.
Ons het dit geproe - dit
is watertand!
tuisgemaakte pasta:
1 koppie meel; 1 eier; knippie sout; 15 ml water, plus ekstra indien nodig.
As daar
8reasons to
LOVEavo
The avocado is without a doubt one of nature’s most luxurious
foods: rich and creamy and subtly-flavoured. Plus side: it’s also
super healthy. Here are eight reasons why we’re loving avo.
Try this:
Warm winter avo salad
With… Tenderstem broccoli, avocado
and bacon dressed with warm anchovy
butter
150 g streaky bacon
230 g tenderstem broccoli, blanched
1 – 2 avocados, pitted and peeled
A handful baby spinach, for serving
A handful microgreens, for serving
8 anchovy fillets, finely chopped
100 g butter
4 garlic cloves, finely grated
1 lemon, juiced
Preheat the oven to 200°C. Bake streaky
bacon until crisp. Arrange on a plate
with blanched Tenderstem broccoli,
the flesh of avocados, baby spinach
and a few microgreens. Finely chop
anchovy fillets, then melt in a pan with
butter and finely grated garlic cloves
over a low heat. When all the butter has
melted, add the juice of 1 lemon and
whisk. Spoon liberally over the salad
while still warm.
For the Heart
Published in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition 1, a 2018 study found
that those who eat avocados (compared to those who follow an avo-free
diet) had higher levels of good HDL cholesterol. This is likely due to the high
amount of heart-healthy monounsaturated fat found in avos. Avos are also
naturally cholesterol-free, an added bonus in heart health.
For Healthy Blood Pressure
2
It’s a double-win for blood pressure when eating avos. Firstly, avocados
contain potassium, a mineral that, when included as part of healthy diet,
contributes to normal blood pressure. In addition, avocados are also
naturally free from sodium, which we know, may increase the risk of high
3
blood pressure if consumed in excess.
For the Eyes
Published in the scientific journal Nutrients 2 in 2017, researchers in America
found that people who ate one avocado a day over six months had higher
levels of lutein in the blood. Avos are a source of lutein, a phytochemical
that accumulates in the eye. Lutein, along with another phytochemical
called zeaxanthin, has been found to be protective against a common eye
disorder in the elderly called age-related macular degeneration.
getitmagazine.co.za/bloemfontein
4
For the Brain
In the same study mentioned above, people who ate an avo daily also
had significant improvement in their memory, cognition and problemsolving
abilities. The lutein in avos, along with monounsaturated fats,
fibre and other bioactive compounds, make this creamy fruit particularly
5
attractive for a healthy brain.
During Pregnancy
A mother’s diet during pregnancy plays a crucial role in influencing the
growth of her baby and a healthy birth. Avos are a nutrient-dense food
consisting of a unique combination of dietary fibre, healthy fats and
vitamins and minerals such as potassium, magnesium, vitamin E, vitamin
K and folate, all important as part of a healthy diet for both mom and
growing baby.
For the Gut
The fibre in avos is a unique combination of ¾ insoluble fibre and
¼ soluble fibre. Our gut needs different types of fibres to keep it
healthy, each of which has different jobs in the gut. Soluble fibre
acts like a mop and helps absorb fluid in the gut, forming a soft,
gel-like substance that helps the stool to easily pass through the
gut. Insoluble fibre acts like a broom, roughly sweeping through the
length of the gut to remove waste. But fibre does far more than just
keeping us regular and may play a role in preventing colon cancer,
lowering cholesterol, and even helping with weight loss.
7
6
For your Waistline
Avos can be helpful as part of a successful energy-controlled diet for
weight loss. Researchers have found that the monounsaturated fats
in avo give a quicker feeling of fullness which reduces overeating. The
richness may also help make the diet more appetising, reducing the
temptation to binge on foods high in energy from sugar and bad fatsy.
For your Hair and Skin
8
Avocados are high in a B-vitamin called biotin, which contributes to the
maintenance of normal hair and skin. Nourish your hair and skin from the
inside out and have avocado as a spread on toast, as a dip for fresh finger
veggies or diced into salads this summer.
DON’T FORGET THE
Grow
your
own
herbs
Of all of the variety of things you can choose from to start your
gardening career, herbs are by far one of the simplest, yet most
rewarding plants to try your hand at.
Getting started
When growing herbs you need to decide how you are going to start, whether
you want to grow your herbs in small, individual pots or whether you want to
grow your own herb garden. Some people find when they start growing herbs, it
is easier to stay on track if they begin with small pots with a single plant in each.
Growing herbs in pots for beginners is a great option! Many times this method is
started with a small pot that contains a small dried tablet of soil with the herb seeds
already contained within it. These small pots are an easy way to begin because all
they require is a little water and sunlight to begin since the soil already contains
much of the nutrition that the herbs need to grow.
Fertilize
Fertilizer is what helps to ensure that
your soil is providing the nutrients
your plants will need in order to grow,
which is why it is important to apply the
appropriate type of fertilizer to ensure
that a plant does not receive too much
of a certain nutrient. When applying the
necessary fertilizer to your soil before
planting your herbs, you are creating
a well-balanced environment for your
plants to grow.
Choosing herbs
Many people ask which types of herbs
are the best to begin growing a herb
garden but in reality most varieties of
herb are fairly easy to grow and the
herbs that you choose to grow are really
your preference. It really boils down to
your personal preference.
Basil
Basil is a pleasantly fragranced herb that
many people choose to grow because
it is frequently used in cooking and it is
a strongly fragrant herb that adds to the
smell of an herb garden. Basil flourishes
when grown in full sunlight and takes
around 30 to 60 days to mature.
Chamomile
Chives are the long thin hollow green
leaves of a herb that many people
choose to grow due to the fact that
they are so commonly utilised in
everyday cooking. Chive leaves make a
great quick addition to soups and bring
a lot of flavour to basic salads. This herb
requires full sunlight to grow and takes
around 80 to 90 days to mature.
Lavender
Lavender is a beautiful addition to any
herb garden because of its gorgeous
lilac colour as well as its pungent scent.
Often used in cooking and in tea,
lavender has a long-lasting fragrance
and a number of health benefits,
including stress reduction! To meet their
full potential, lavender plants should be
placed in full sunlight.
The Herb Garden in a Box
contains a selection of quality
seeds embedded in a nutrientdense
biodegradable paper
tape. This tape keeps the seeds
properly spaced and protects
them from pests ensuring quick
and effective, fuss-free growth.
Now everyone can flex their
green thumbs! R76. www.faithful-
oh, lamb!
Balsamic leg of lamb with garlic and figs
Serves 6
1 large leg of lamb* (about 3 kg), 45 ml olive oil, salt and pepper, 3 sprigs rosemary,
woody stems removed, chopped, 2 whole heads of garlic, horizontally sliced in half
¾cup (180 ml) balsamic vinegar, 1 cup (250 ml) port wine, 1 cup (250 ml) dry white
wine, about 8 large ripe black figs, some halved, some whole
*note: Ask your butcher to bend the long end of the leg bone by cutting almost
through it but not all the way. This way it will fit snugly into a large roasting tray
without hanging over the side.
Preheat the oven to 160°C. Place the leg of lamb inside a large deep roasting tray, fatty
side down. Drizzle it all over with oil and season it generously with salt, pepper, and
chopped rosemary on both sides. Arrange the garlic head halves around it, then pour
the vinegar, port and white wine into the bottom. Cover with a lid or foil, then roast for
3 hours. Remove from the oven, then use tongs to turn the leg over with the fatty side
to the top. Cover and roast for another 2 hours. Remove the tray from the oven and
turn the heat up to 200°C. Return the leg to the oven for 20 minutes, then add the figs
around the meat and roast for another 10 minutes - the figs should be just warm and
soft, not falling apart.
Serve warm in the tray as a festive centrepiece, with a side of rice or potatoes or roast
vegetables and salad.
Saucy…
This roast makes a hearty yet thin sauce - remove some of the fat from the top by
skimming it off with a spoon at the end of the cooking process. If you prefer a thicker
gravy, pour the skimmed sauce into a small saucepan, bring to a boil, and thicken
slightly by reducing it by ¼or by adding 2-3 teaspoons of corn flour (mix it to a slurry
consistency with a few teaspoons of water before adding it). Stir well until thickened.
Coastal escape
Plett ... still (and always will be) the perfect
destination for a mid-year coastal break
With its plush boutiques and
smart complexes, Plettenberg Bay
is hardly a sleepy seaside village
getaway. But, in spite of the dramatic
development that has taken place
in recent decades, the town remains
a shrine to nature’s bounty. And
there’s nowhere better to enjoy the
view than at the Sky Villa Boutique
Hotel, part of the Cape Summer Villas
Collection.
‘Plettenberg Bay always has
the most wonderful sunrises,’ my
mother tells me, reminding me of
how we used to sit, hands wrapped
round steaming mugs of coffee,
watching a small red ball slowly
climbing the horizon. That was back
in the nineties, when Plett was our
family holiday spot. And, although
much has changed since then, the
grandeur of the sunrise certainly
hasn’t. That’s what I’m thinking as I
watch that same red ball from my
balcony, its rays refracted in a golden
splash on the surface of the lagoon.
Just beyond this gilded spectacle,
the beach beckons…
It’s no wonder that Plett’s
legendary scenery draws legions
of holidaymakers, local and
international alike. But the same
craggy beauty which makes it a
joy for the eyes also makes for
outstanding exploring. While it’s
tempting to sit and take in that
balcony view, I know there are even
greater splendours beyond the hotel.
There’s the famed Robberg hike,
for instance – a favourite way for
locals to spend the weekend. The
walk takes you from rocky dunes
(watch out for the views of seals at
play) to wave-splattered beach. Then
there’s cruising down the Keurbooms
River, where shadow plays on
fynbos-festooned mountains and
amber-coloured water laps at private
beaches. If ever there was a place
that called you to spread out your
towel and turn off your phone, this
would be it – but, then again, that
would be a wasted opportunity.
The smooth, calm waters also make
this an ideal spot for trying out your
stand-up paddling skills. But if that
idea doesn’t grab you, perhaps the
thought of cruising slowly down the
river, bubbles in hand, will.
Plett’s beaches are also a favourite
party spot for whales and dolphins.
We played tag with them out on the
ocean, and although the dolphins
proved somewhat shy and elusive,
nothing could beat the exhilarating
sensation of streaming over azure
blue waves.
Then there are those boutiques
and bakeries. Those who love
browsing through interesting stores
will find time flies as they meander
down Plett’s high street, refuelling
occasionally with a flat white and
slice of buttery cake.
As much as all these activities
are food for the soul, there’s just
as much fulfilment to be found at
the hotel itself. It’s as though every
angle and corner of Sky Villa has
been carefully designed to make you
stop and stare – inside the hotel, a
luxe palette of metallics is offset by
moody wallpapers and floral fabrics.
Clearly, this establishment hasn’t
been created merely as a place to
relax; it’s also intended as a treat for
the senses.
The hotel’s gardens are even more
pleasing. Flurries of fynbos make for
a smudgy pastel landscape, while
the vista rolls all the way down to
that sapphire sea. You
can’t blame a girl for
wanting to take it all in
– which is why I spend
much of my stay at
the heated pool on
the rooftop bar. The
espresso martini I’m
sipping certainly
doesn’t hurt,
either.
The
panorama from
the restaurant
is similarly
spectacular. That might be the
reason the hotel is fast gaining a
reputation as a favourite breakfast
destination, although it’s the dinners
that really get my mouth watering.
The menu draws on Mediterranean
influences, so expect plenty of
fresh, bold flavours that pair
perfectly with your coastal
location. My all-time hero dish
is Live By Chocolate, a chocolate
experience so densely delicious it
will take care of all cravings for the
next week: think a duo of mousse,
lashed with butterscotch sauce
and finished off with a dollop of
home-made ice cream. Of course,
life isn’t just about dessert
(would that it could be).
I also loved the avocado
and salmon tartare, with
a liberal drizzle of sesame
oil complementing the Asian
complexity of the dish, while
the pork belly received lavish
praise from my companions. A
word of advice – go hungry! Sky
Villa’s portions are generous, to
say the least, and you’ll definitely
want to do them justice.
After just one weekend here, I feel
cosseted and cocooned – and more
than ready to tackle life below
the clouds.
