Our education priorities
At our school, relationships and learning are of
equal importance. The Loreto Normanhurst Student
Growth Model (LNSGM) is an award-winning model
of education which develops students holistically in
the areas of Faith, Academic, Community and Extracurricular
(FACE curriculum). A Loreto Normanhurst
education assists our students to be young women who
are passionate about learning, compassionate to others
and have a strong sense of faith and social direction
that underpins their values to achieve their personal best
and guides their decision making. We aim to encourage
our students to be lifelong learners who are curious and
critical thinkers with a broad vision for the future.
Flexible boarding model
The school offers a flexible boarding model. While full
time boarding is at the core of Loreto Normanhurst
boarding, there is full flexibility on weekends. For country
and city-based boarders alike, this means boarding all
week with greater access to weekend time with family
and friends. This model of boarding can also take some
of the pressure off busy family life and help students
meet their academic and extra-curricular commitments.
Immersion experience
An immersion experience unique to Loreto Normanhurst
is the Far North Queensland experience, which involves
the entire cohort of Year 9 students and staff travelling
to Far North Queensland to engage with Indigenous
communities, perform community service and
experience learning outside the traditional classroom.
Students love the opportunity to do science on the
Great Barrier Reef, learn history at Rocky Creek on the
Atherton Tablelands and write poetry on the bluff at
Undara. These experiences deepen the impact of their
learning, and they carry this with them for a lifetime.
Extra-curricular opportunities
Extra-curricular activity is a fundamental element of the
FACE Curriculum allowing students to grow as part of
a holistic education within the LNSGM. Students may
combine sport and activities such as rowing, gymnastics,
football, netball and rugby sevens with an academic
enrichment program such as Future Problem Solving, or
perhaps specialise in competitive debating. The school
also has a large number of music ensembles and social
justice groups, as well as opportunities to be part of the
Mock Trial team and different clubs such as the Coding
Club, the Student Newspaper and Tech Hub.

Located in Sydney’s eastern suburbs and overlooking the
iconic Sydney Harbour, Kambala is a vibrant independent
day and boarding school that has been educating
‘the whole girl’ for over 130 years.
A Kambala education is a celebration of learning. Our mission

Our iconic Rose Bay location in Sydney’s eastern suburbs is
one of Kambala’s greatest assets. Students enjoy the open
space of the oval and lawn areas as well as the beautiful
landscaped grounds surrounding the heritage-listed Tivoli

At Kambala, learning is a lifelong adventure which begins at
Hampshire House – Kambala’s Early Learning Centre, which
operates from 7.30am to 6.00pm. The Junior School builds
on the foundations laid in Hampshire House, providing a
supportive, vibrant and active learning environment
where girls start to develop a deeper sense of community
and togetherness.
Senior School is an exciting time in a Kambala girl’s journey.
Year 7 is a major intake year where much emphasis is placed
on the induction and transition process. After Year 7, students
can elect more subjects each year, until Years 11 and 12
where the widest possible choice is made available through
the option of the Higher School Certificate (HSC) or the
International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme.
Boarding holds a special place in our community. Our facilities
have been designed for individual nurturing. Tivoli, Kambala’s
Junior Boarding House, is a communal environment where
all rooms are shared; it caters for younger students with
a well-resourced study section and spacious recreational
living. Fernbank, the Senior Boarding House, allows greater
privacy and independence where Boarders develop the skills
necessary for life after school. What makes boarding so special
is the happy, positive environment where girls support each
other and the close-knit friendships that are formed.
People, values and learning are at the heart of what we
do; student and staff wellbeing, personal and professional
development and growth is our priority. Our staff work with
students to produce a love of learning and of self, develop selfrespect
and an experiential sense of community. Self-esteem
is built through the wide variety of opportunities to experience
success in a very supportive environment.
Sport is an integral component of wellbeing. A broad range
of sporting disciplines are offered at Kambala including
Athletics, Basketball, Cross Country, Gymnastics, Hockey,
Netball, Snow Sports, Soccer, Swimming, Tennis, Touch and
Water Polo. Girls are strongly encouraged to play competitive
sport and to make full use of the extensive range of sporting
opportunities. Saturday Sport is available but not compulsory.
The education of the whole girl translates to a world beyond
the classroom. Activities in addition to the curriculum
include Photography, Ceramics, Life Drawing, Speech,
Drama, Debating, Future Problem Solving, Tournament of
Minds, Mock Trial, the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme and
numerous orchestral and vocal ensembles.

ST ANDREW’S CATHEDRAL SCHOOL
Inspiring teachers can make all the difference
A lot has changed for 15 year-old student Amy Diaz since her primary
school days when she felt learning computer science was mostly for
boys.
“At my primary school, there was a computer club set up but I was
the only girl in it, so I ended up quitting,” she says.
Now in Year 10, she’s completing the first unit of a Computer Science
degree at the University of New South Wales (UNSW).
“I really like the course,” she says. “There’s a lot of complex problem
solving and software development. It’s given me a sense of what a
life in computing and technology could be like.”
She puts part of her interest in, and pursuit of, computer science
down to her Information and Software Technology (IST) teacher, Mr
Michael Thill.
“He’s so passionate,” she says. “He’s always talking up any
opportunity to do computer science.”
Mr Thill’s love for teaching the subject is obvious.
“I love attracting the students’ interest by showing them a product
that is colourful and interesting, but one that they can’t quite achieve
yet,” he says. “When you code, you look at mathematical patterns
and then break it down into its individual pieces, to understand why
it works. That’s what computational thinking is: you take one big
problem and break it down to find the solutions. When students are
forced to think critically about how to create something amazing,
that’s when the magic of learning happens.”
As the students’ interest and experience in computer science
progresses, Mr Thill raises the stakes, exposing them to real-life
projects around the Sydney CBD, where the school is based.
His Year 12 computer science class recently went to the offices of
Amazon, one of the biggest software companies in the world. They
heard from a senior
engineer who walked
them through a reallife
project they were
working on. Since their
main Sydney office
was literally across the
road from the school,
they were able to go to
the offices within their
hour-long class.
“Being in the city is
a massive advantage
for us,” he says. “It
provides us with all
these opportunities and
connections that you just can’t get in other locations. I’m really
thankful we’re here.”

St Vincent’s College, Potts Point is a Catholic day and boarding school

and distinguished tradition in the Catholic education of young women

Located in the heart of Potts Points the College is well served by

In 1858 St Vincent’s College was founded on its present site by the
Sisters of Charity. Knowledge of the world illumined by the light of

Boarding: Boarding is at the heart of the College and students are
drawn from across NSW. Boarders bring a rich and diverse variety of
life experiences to the College, and are welcomed into a community
where friendships created, last a lifetime. The facilities offer all the
comforts for boarding students to establish a sense of belonging.
St Vincent’s College is committed to girls having plenty of bedroom
space in twin and single bedrooms. There are no dormitories in the
Boarding House. Each Year group is under the care of a dedicated
Boarding Coordinator whose primary concern is the spiritual,
pastoral, physical and academic well-being of each boarder. The
supportive environment in the Boarding House is based on trust,
open communication between the boarder, her family and the
Boarding Coordinator embracing all the joys and challenges of
boarding life. Study is supervised with teaching support available
to the girls. Weekends involve a mix of study, sport and leisure time
utilising the inner city location of the College with close access
to all Sydney has to offer; landmarks, cultural facilities, Sydney
Harbour and beaches.

Pymble provides a myriad of opportunities for excellence

Pymble’s Personalised Learning Framework is key to empowering

academically and socially through additional study, peer support
and ‘City Family’ programs.
The Framework includes the broadening of the curriculum to

Pymble’s Personalised Learning Framework aims to ‘Know,
Guide, Challenge’ each girl. Staff ‘Know’ each girl by regularly
collecting and reviewing her learning data to ensure positive

Through Coaching Conversations and mentorship, staff ‘Guide’
and ‘Challenge’ each girl to identify goals and to develop a
Growth Mindset.
Learning takes place in Innovative Learning Environments –
dynamic and flexible learning spaces allowing each girl to

Five Firsts for Pymble girls,
an outstanding result for the 2018 HSC
Pymble Ladies’ College outperformed selective girls’ schools
and selective co-educational schools in terms of the number of
students to place First in Course in the 2018 HSC.

Agriculture, Anjia Zhou – English ESL, Zoe Harrison – Dance,
Emmerson Pearce – Food Technology and Sofia Whitbourn (Year

Proudly single-sex
Founding Principal, Dr John Marden established Pymble with
the conviction that women deserved the best that education
had to offer.
Australian research shows that when girls are in singlesex
environments, they are more empowered and more
competitive in pursuing any area they choose, including the
male-dominated realms of science, technology, engineering
and mathematics (STEM).
Girls educated in Australian girls’ schools consistently outperform

Community
Students participate in local, national and global Community

Curriculum
Our innovative curriculum, structured especially for boys, breaks

Preparatory School students work with teachers to develop core
skills in literacy and numeracy. Lessons staffed by talented subject

Boys in Years 7 and 8 study core courses such as English, Maths and
Science and get a taste of other subjects including Languages, Music

Knox Total Fitness
Knox Total Fitness is an integrated Positive Psychology program
which supports the spiritual, physical, social and academic wellbeing

Positive Psychology can play a crucial role in reducing depression
and anxiety within the school environment. All Knox staff, including
sports coaches, receive expert training in Positive Psychology from
qualified psychologists.
Mentors and teachers work closely with all students to help them

a multi-purpose hall. The Hildegard Centre for Creative and Performing
Arts was recently opened giving students access to high-quality learning
and performing spaces with industry standard technology featuring a
performing arts space with full stage production facilities and retractable
seating, music classrooms, music tuition rooms, a drama studio, a dance
studio and art studios.
Mount St Benedict College has a student population of around 1,100.
Students come from over 50 primary schools across Sydney to attend

Growth Model (LNSGM) is an award-winning model

Flexible boarding model
The school offers a flexible boarding model. While full
time boarding is at the core of Loreto Normanhurst
boarding, there is full flexibility on weekends. For country
and city-based boarders alike, this means boarding all
week with greater access to weekend time with family
and friends. This model of boarding can also take some
of the pressure off busy family life and help students
meet their academic and extra-curricular commitments.
Immersion experience
An immersion experience unique to Loreto Normanhurst
is the Far North Queensland experience, which involves
the entire cohort of Year 9 students and staff travelling
to Far North Queensland to engage with Indigenous
communities, perform community service and
experience learning outside the traditional classroom.
Students love the opportunity to do science on the
Great Barrier Reef, learn history at Rocky Creek on the
Atherton Tablelands and write poetry on the bluff at
Undara. These experiences deepen the impact of their
learning, and they carry this with them for a lifetime.
Extra-curricular opportunities
Extra-curricular activity is a fundamental element of the
FACE Curriculum allowing students to grow as part of
a holistic education within the LNSGM. Students may
combine sport and activities such as rowing, gymnastics,
football, netball and rugby sevens with an academic
enrichment program such as Future Problem Solving, or
perhaps specialise in competitive debating. The school
also has a large number of music ensembles and social
justice groups, as well as opportunities to be part of the
Mock Trial team and different clubs such as the Coding
Club, the Student Newspaper and Tech Hub.

Mount St Benedict College is a leading independent, non-selective
Catholic high school for girls located in the Catholic Diocese of Broken

Mount St Benedict College was founded by the Sisters of the Good
Samaritan in the Order of St Benedict in 1966 and has recently
celebrated fifty years of educating young women. The College is an

Mount St Benedict College has a student population of around 1,100.
Students come from over 50 primary schools across Sydney to attend
the College. In addition to public bus and train connections, the College
has recently introduced a private bus to service the Ermington, West
Ryde, Ryde, Putney, Marsfield and Epping areas.

CENTRAL COAST STEINER SCHOOL
The Central Coast Steiner School offers a balanced, challenging and
contemporary educational pathway from Early Childhood to Year 10.
The pedagogy is shaped in accordance with the needs of the learner. The
Steiner tradition respects the rights of children to fully experience the wonder
of their childhood. There is ample time for creative self-directed play in
kindergarten. This lays a firm, healthy foundation for academic growth as well
as the development of social skills and problem-solving skills.
At Central Coast Steiner School, learning is a joyful activity. The imagination of
the students is fired through an artistic approach to all facets of teaching. In
particular, the integration of music, visual and performing arts in the curriculum
nourishes the emotional development of the student.
The curriculum balances academic achievement, artistic experience and
practical skills - the head, heart and hands.
Key subjects are taught in ‘main lessons’- blocks of three weeks of the same
topic, usually for two hours every morning, allowing for depth, integration and
highly engaged learning. Foreign language tuition begins in class one. Physical
education encompasses a varied program - including surfing, circus skills,
dance, football, martial arts, AFL and ice-skating. Excellent on-site sporting
facilities and a challenging outdoor education program are offered including
the Duke of Edinburgh award.
Within a non-denominational school context, a spiritual conception of the
human being is embraced. The school’s educational philosophy is mindful and
conducive to a sense of resilience and centredness. A heart-felt approach to
learning cultivates an experience of connectedness to life and life’s purpose.

Abbotsleigh, a Pre Kindergarten to Year 12 Anglican day
and boarding school for girls, has welcomed boarders
since its foundation in 1885.
The School offers all the advantages of a large-city
