PRESHIL
Preshil is the oldest progressive school in Australia, focusing on the
education of each individual child and the social relationships, which
support their development as critical and creative thinkers. It remains
a deliberately small school, welcoming children into the Kindergarten
at three years of age, and following them through to the completion of
their Secondary Schooling in Year 12.
Preshil is an International Baccalaureate World School, with
authorisation to teach the IB Middle Years and Diploma Programmes
(IBMYP and IBDP) and candidacy for the Primary Years Programme
(IBPYP). Scholarships are available for these IB programmes, which
align perfectly with Preshil’s focus on intellectual challenge, inquiry
and research-based learning.
Collaborative, independent and directed learning underpin the
curriculum at Preshil’s Arlington Primary campus, where individuality
and creativity are valued. In the Secondary School, the IB continues
to support an outstanding Arts, Drama, Film and Music program, with
multi-age Electives focusing on extending students’ interests, building
understanding of careers opportunities and expanding on the STEAM
elements of the curriculum.
The Preshil approach to schooling uses neither the fear of failure
nor the threat of punishment to motivate children. Preshil does not
demand conformity or unthinking obedience to arbitrary rules. The
relationship between teachers and students is respectful and focused
on achieving outstanding learning outcomes, trust and a genuine
regard for each individual.
