Purpose: Generation of the article description<br />

By selecting the suitable cable gland different factors have to be considered, such as<br />

• The environment of the application<br />

• The conditions inside the enclosure<br />

• The construction of the cable<br />

[c] = Seal material (S=Silicone, N=Neoprene)<br />

[d] = Continuity for lead sheath (L = yes, O = no)<br />

[e] = Plating (SC = self-coloured, NI = nickel-plated<br />

[f] = <strong>Cable</strong> outer sheath (1 = Reduced, 2 = Standard)<br />

[ggg] = Gland size (G16-G75)<br />

Application example<br />

Within an Ex d application on an Off-Shore platform a suitable cable gland for the termination into an enclosure is required.<br />

Following details about the application are given:<br />

• The enclosure will be used for the control of a motor circuit breaker<br />

• The enclosure has a volume of 1.3 dm 3 and is installed outdoor.<br />

• The application is in the field, a place in which an explosive atmosphere is likely to occur in normal operation, occasionally (Zone 1)<br />

• The surrounding atmosphere of the enclosure consists Ethylene (gas group IIB)<br />

• The enclosure operates in a temperature range of -25 °C to +45 °C<br />

• The armour of the cable is unknown, no lead sheathed cable<br />

• The cable outer sheath diameter is 10 mm<br />

• The cable inner sheath diameter is 8 mm<br />
