A Destination Park! Dubuque has lots of little parks that are more nature focused, 

this is not a bad thing. I have seen many other cities that have several smaller parks 

and a single larger destination park. This is a place where outdoor events can be 

held, longer running loops (1-2miles). Most parks are designed for how people lived 

20 years ago. Dubuque needs a destination park that supports how people live today.

A Leader is someone who is not afraid to lead from the front or lead by example. This 

is someone that is willing to do and show, rather than tell. A good leader needs to be

for the whole family that would draw people here. We have the 

Mississippi River Museum but we need something similar to a minor 

league baseball stadium or an arena football team to allow families a

they don’t feel like they have “been there, done that”.

What would increase Dubuque’s ‘cool factor’? A shopping center, similar to an outlet 

mall, which has trendy clothing shops in one area of the city instead of having them 

dispersed throughout Dubuque. The shopping center and current surrounding stores could 

be a one-day adventure. Then, you have your downtown businesses which have more of 

the “stroll through town” feel similar to downtown Galena. This would tie in nicely with the 

breweries, food choices, and hotel options that already exist downtown. There are many 

people who have group getaways or ladies’ weekends that would really enjoy this option. 

This would appeal to “weekend getaways” for groups.
